Tsutsui is back in Jump with another romcom. Syd is funny and his over the top reactions were funny too. Souffle is the police officer and Elio is his assistant. He wanted Elio to leave early so that he could read his romance novel lol. Also interested to see was Elio hiding her identity at the end there. Anyway a really cute and fun start. The female characters are cute and Syd is funny. Looking forward to more. |

I'm finding it an interesting manga so far. The first chapter was pretty solid. I'm with great expectations, Taishi-sensei. |

Oh ok so the assistant really was a girl. I was like that's a guy? when he said that but no Elio is clearly a girl. Also, so his first love is the police investigator but he doesn't realize that? Does he realize all of this but just choose to ignore it so he doesn't think further on it? I'm guessing his great eye catches all the details but just chooses to think nah can't be until they tell him I guess. Or maybe he is just blind to those closest to him. Anyways solid first chapter. I think this can be pretty fun if executed well if not it'll probably get stale quickly. |

I hope that future cases will be much harder, like the barmaid's reaction while hearing about corps was enough to assume she was a culprit, and we could immediately see victim was on that photo. Same with Elio being a girl and Inspector being his childhood love, too obvious (I was surprised Syd didn't knew about Elio's gender). Author could easily draw Elio to look more manly/androgynous and make her true gender "big twist"... but obviously if she didn't looked like a girl from the start her appearance wouldn't "sell" that much. So yeah, if writing of misteris will not improve I don't see this series surviving for long. I recommend reading/watchng "Ron Kamonohashi's Forbidden Deductions". |

Yeah where could their childhood friend be, I wonder lmao. Knew she was the childhood friend and the assistant was obviously a girl. Where is the romance he's waiting for smh. The case was obvious as that's just how things go for the guy when he gets involved with a woman as he mentioned but was still funny to see it happen. Shame since the women were all pretty. But he still has Souffle and Elio. Great to have the GOAT Taishi Tsutsui back in wsj. BokuBen remain one of my fav harem romcom. I was wondering how he'll fare doing a mystery manga but this is just a romcom in disguise. |

Yeah! I knew too that the barwoman was the culprit way before seeing the corpse! That she was left handed caught me off guard, and I liked it because the manga already gave u the panel with the photos but one usually read to the next panel without paying attention. And thanks to look again that panel, I quickly guessed about her left arm being wounded by a bullet when I saw the gun. I was really waiting to the reveal part ASAP since it was very obvious she was the culprit but the fact that the dead was someone who also apperead in the same panel of photos caught me off of guard again! Overall, it was an enjoyable read. Syd is funny and I am looking forward for the next case~ |

Detective Conan is one of my all time favorite series, I love a mix of mystery and romance melodrama. This clearly skews more romcom but it has a bit of a shaky foundation. I diddnt understand why they were referring to Elio as a man because they were clearly a girl. The old flame being the cop was super obvious from the flashback and was a weak twist to end the chapter. I like the MC even if he is falling into the current fad of anxious awkward protags like in kyoshi or shinobi. His distaste for murder while falling into cases is a fun dynamic but with how weak the mystery writing is I can see it become set dressing for romantic hijinks around corpses. I am not super invested yet but am more curious what direction they decide to take the story. |

This reminds me a bit of 'unubore deka', a show where a detective falls in love with female criminals. |

@MegamiRem But that's the thing, sport in Blue Box is still good, you care if character win and lose. It's good blend of romance and sport making one of big reasons why Blue Box is so popular. Marriagetoxin is also good blend of action and romans, same with "Make the Exorcist Fall in Love" being good blend of romance, depression and suffering. So if future cases will not improve readers will lose interests in detective element, so only readers who will stay reading it will only cares about ships. Which overall will hinder popularity and maybe even will end prematurely. Also I think you misunderstood my "Elio criticism", she looks obviously as a girl because she wouldn't be "widely popular". If she really looked like a guy (had good disguise) she wouldn't be marketable tomboy*tm character. Same with comedy, which is a very personal thing. For me, first chapter wasn't particularly funny. like brilliant detective obviously wouldn't be interested in mystery novels because they would guess everything immediately. |

If every chapter plays out the same way (with the crush-of-the-week being the culprit), then the mysteries are going to get really predictable really fast, LOL. I mean, that's not much of a problem, since it seems that most people predicted that the bartender was the killer in chapter 1 anyway, so unpredictability doesn't seem to be what Syd Craft's going for. As long as the jokes and character-building in-between those mysteries is solid, then I'm not gonna complain. :P |

First time following a manga from Chapter 1 :D I enjoyed it! The fact that I like Sherlock Holmes might have something to do with this, but I'm sure that's not the only reason. This manga definitely has potential. It's funny and entertaining enough. For a comedy series, the art is good enough. The premise is interesting. The characters are likeable. All the minimum requirements for a decent manga are met. I think the biggest thing this manga has going for it is its originality and charm. A comedy manga about a detective who just wants to be happy fills a niche among Shonen Jump's other titles about... Let's see... A guy with a weapon, a guy with a weapon, a guy with a weapon, a guy with a weapon, a guy with a weapon, a guy with a weapon, a guy with a weapon, a guy with a weapon, a guy with a weapon, a guy with a weapon, a guy with a weapon, and a guy with a weapon. I wish that was a joke. What I hope for is that plot goes in interesting directions. There's definitely room for it: Inspector Flamberry's parents were murdered by robbers, for example. The Kaguya-sama direction of character development through comedy could work as well. I hope this doesn't pivot towards the romance direction too much though, since it could be much more than essentially Spy x Family version 2. The theme of finding happiness is much more interesting than romance in my opinion. I can see this becoming repetitive if future chapters follow a similar formula, but in the meantime I will look forwards to the next case. |
