What anime or manga started off with a consistent premise but got overly wacky and over the top toward the end?

It might have had some wacky moments at the beginning but got very crazy near the end. What are reasons you feel it did?

Wonder Egg Priority
One of the best shows of the year so far, but those last 2-3 episodes were extremely over the top.

I think Fire Force, I enjoyed it quite a bit in the beginning but towards season 2 I didn’t even know what the fuck was happening

school days, simple and mediocre plot, but in the last chapter everything became strange and too weird

don't completely kill me for this, but I say Code Geass, and not just at the end, but throughout the whole show. It got really over the top in the sense that it tried to fit in too many genres at once.

I also say Darling in the Franxx.

I don't think many people would've predicted the direction darling in the franxx would go in the latter half especially after the first few eps

Definitely Evangelion, while it starts off relatively normal the last 5 or 6 episodes take everything in the show and blow it out a butthole. And the movie is even more messed up!

I would also say Serial Experiments Lain but I guess that one was weird from the beginning and just gets weirder as the show goes on.

WEP is definitely one that seemed extremely nice in the beginning 9 episodes, but those last 3 episodes definitely were quite extreme.

The Promised Neverland manga turned worse over the course of time and its S2 was more like The Un-promised Speedrun S2.

Wonder egg priority. It had so much potential but was cloverworks was like "Wanna see me fuck up an anime this season? Wanna see me do it twice?"
I gave up on character of the week since it takes too much thinking. I'll just change my forum pfp to whoever I want every week lol.

Horimiya started off that can provide a great story but in the later half it just became slice of life episodic shorts type of anime.
I didn't had this problem with Komi can't communicate because it was like this from the beginning.
From the romcoms I've watched the only rom com that stayed consistent throughout the series would be Kaguya sama.

Well they are releasing a special that provides a true ending to the series and maybe we can get an actual season 2 after the special.Cloverworks animation is great but they suck at adapting. The only good anime from them would be Bunny girl and I heard they are skipping content in Shadows house too because they don't know whether it will be renewed for a second season so they are trying to make season 1 as the final ending to the series. If a second season is possible they will try to make changes which can fit the narrative.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood went from a period drama about JoJo's adopted brother trying to steal his inheritance to... well, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

I don't know, but some people have crucified me for saying this.

New examples this time:

-So Ra No Wo To: terrible SOL episodes but at least the anime was consistent, last 2-3 were war drama, forced plot twists and action for some reason. I disliked it so much.

-Not bad but Haikyuu!! S3 is overrated and I couldn't care much due to the rushed pacing. S1 and S2 were fantastic, S3? Nop, just meh. AT LEAST S4 is fantastic again.

AoT manga,
It went from a serious and realistic dark fantasy that tackled the themes of freedom, racism, and war, to an incoherent fanservice-ridden cringe-ass fucked up romance story by the end.

Probably Neon Genesis Evangelion, Sakura sou no Pet na Kanojo and Charlotte notably. There are many more but those 3 are probably the ones that come in my mind. All of them started off well, but became a mess near the end and delivered something lower than what I expected.
Reviewing is not easy.

Flip Flappers started off like a surreal slivce-of-life adventure before bringing in an incredibly complex plot that goes off the rails in tone and storytelling.
