| So... I had this random thought while I was scrolling thru sailor moon character songs on tumblr... Is it just me or does there seem to be a huge lack of image songs for anime nowadays? I remember when reborn and wagnaria had fun character songs and they would release them both digitally and on cd... and now it seems like there is a much smaller percentage of them made and released; and it only seems to be for a FEW different shows (all of them are idol related too so having the characters sing isn't even a surprise). Is there a reason for this? I couldn't find any answers (or questions) regarding this anywhere so I'm hoping that I'm not the only crazy person who has an issue with this. |

| Ikr. I mean, even Bleach have some. One Piece have a ton and Prince of Tennis also have a ton (and so many more with the tenimyu). Tbh I don't know the answer to that too. I guess it's because less people were interested in it nowadays? Or people just aren't as invested with the characters or maybe today anime is just aren't that good? Idk tbh. Except for idol anime, I haven't noticed any character songs either nowadays. |

| I have a feeling this is because they don't do as well as they used to, and the lack of them is more of a collective business decision. If people didn't buy artbooks they'd be just as rare as character songs |

| actually there are many character songs nowadays but most of them are behind paywall and a lot of international fans don't buy CDs and share that often it usually happens in an anime that's either: (not including IDOL anime) super popular - attack on titan, naruto, bleach, hitman reborn has a famous voice cast - kuroko no basuke, free!, diamond no ace |

| If character songs are on the decline then people are most probably not buying them. Honestly, I don't even bother with character songs or even OST, the only character song I've heard (Eternal Ring) is the one of my most favorite character and it's definitely one of my favorites but that's not nearly enough motivation to listen to the rest even less to actually buy them. |
| I only found out semi-recently that character songs a.k.a. image songs seem to be available for a lot of series, and because I'm not usually all that interested in songs that aren't in the show, I tend not to pay attention to them or pick them up. Sometimes I do, though, and I may find random songs that I do like. For example, "Expose" from the Blue Field character songs album for Arpeggio of Blue Steel is a really nice song. Also, "Shining Days" from the Kaichou-wa Maid-sama "Maid Latte Songs" album has the distinction of not only sharing a name with the Mai-HiME opening theme but also the very very prominent placement of the IV V iii vi chord progression (though in the case of the Mai-HiME OP it's technically (b)VI (b)VII v i). Also from that same album, I keep confusing its "Very Merry-Go-Round" with the Kiddy Girl-and theme "Baby Unvierse Days" because "baby baby universe days" fits right into the same place as "very very merry-go-round". [/comments no one else gives a flying fuck about lol] (seriously I picked up the Maid Latte Songs solely because I mistook its "Shining Days" for the Mai-HiME OP and that's the only reason I even know about its series at all) |

| i think using character songs as an ed for animes is a pretty good idea since it'll be exposed to the viewers who don't bother to search for them and they might not even want to skip the eds (e.g Inu X Boku) but yeah they're just not getting enough publicity |

| I never was a big fan of image songs, to be honest. I get that they add some flavor and all that, but I always found them awkward and uncomfortable to listen to, with the exception of image songs from anime where the main characters are actually singers. I do kinda miss the tradition, though I never participated with it all that much. |

I'm pretty sure the reason they don't is because they put a lot of budget in the anime already lol. The voice actors often have events and such already so there's no need for character songs. |
