THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
This episode doesn't offer much other than developmental points in the relationships between the characters as they take on new jobs aboard the Nautilus, but it does have entertainment value to spare. It's rather amusing to see Marie being humiliated by King in a schooling session conducted by Electra, as well as Grandis and Electra "catfighting". The latter sequences are especially hilarious due to the spirited, lively performances by Jennifer Stuart and Sarah Richardson as Electra and Grandis, respectively; these two are a hoot every time a fiery exchange happens between them. Meanwhile, Nadia attempts to help Grandis in the kitchen, but it proves that she can't do anything right. She cuts her fingers with a butcher knife, and even freezes with shock and disgust at the sight of a fish (which Grandis subsequently prepares in an unsuccessful attempt to impress Nemo). To spice things up, there is a very comical chase involving King after the lion takes a taste of a trout coated with pepper. The episode rounds up when a curious Jean ventures down to the forbidden engine room where Nemo informs him that the Nautilus' central power, the particle annihilation engine, can be used for destruction if in the wrong hands. We don't get to see much of Jean and Nadia communicating with each other, but the quiet exchange between them at the end is very sweet.

Slow moving and more character oriented, but still entertaining, and there are some subtle hints of clues to come lurking within.

This was a very funny episode, Nadia just earned a Comedy tag on my list! I specially liked Nadia and Grandis in the kitchen xD "you'll run out of fingers!"

This episode also reminded me of the first Gainax big project, Wings of Honneamise due to the Science themes discussed in it and how the good and evil of humanity can tremendously affect the use and consequences of its creations. It was all on that movie.

A tool isn't good or bad, it's the user's decision that will determine its purpose.

Mostly filler fun episode, still had some good moments. I noticed a lot more rough animation and art than normal that episode.

So basically it's a nuclear submarine. In the 1880s. An interesting change since the novel's Nautilus ran on a combination of electricity, steam and fossil fuels. Also, hearing Captain Nemo talk about the implications of such revolutionary technology, ranging from how it could both help and destroy humanity, is almost predictive of WWII. Or because this show was made in the 90s, it becomes more reflective than anything else.

It's also interesting how Jean comments that the Nautilus must be a good ship because Captain Nemo is a good man. Despite the potential for technology to cause destruction, it still comes down to the user. A pretty heavy episode with much of the underlying conversations being implied.

That's mainly because Jean is the person who believes in the good in everybody. It's what makes him a very lovable character. In spite of what he sees, he tries to hold out optimism.

Vainas always took their science and the philosophy behind it very seriously. This episode really reminded me of it.

Electra giving us in this episode
"Perhaps there is a universal, absolute truth. Perhaps it justifies every question. But that's beyond the reach of these small hands." Mamoru Oshii

I think Electra is jealous, this told me his face when she was discussing with Captain Nemo at the beginning of the episode. The technological gap with the real world is enormous, which is why we feel that Nemo and the crew of Nautilus are not human. The reflections of Captain Nemo on science are profoundly correct. Episode more relaxed than usual, but not boring by force of things.

Not a too bad episode, quite lovely transitional and we do learn a bit more about the submarine and the technology behind it!

That was hilarious, the comedic elements in Nadia are really well executed, and I love the cast. Electra seems to have a crush on Nemo (otherwise I don't see a reason for her to discuss Grandis with him)

An episode of great value, for the message it conveys in the final part. The narrative doesn't offer much in terms of action and knowledge of the characters, just a handful of information, but from a huge moral lesson that people should keep in mind.

A fun and enjoyable episode with some absolutely hilarious and wacky antics XD despite shall we say some more stretched to their limit art and animation in several instances!

We even had some really lively and funny facial expressions from our cast from Nadia and especially Grandis 🤣 they definitely delivered the laughs and in the case of Grandis several beautifully adorable moments as well ^-^

I have said it before and I will say it again that close up shot of Grandis applying her lipstick the animators know exactly what they are doing X3 both Hanson and Grandis looked especially happy to become members of the crew. I really did enjoy Nadia wanting to contribute and earn her stay aboard the vessel given her having to work on her own to earn a living it makes sense this is her conviction (her face when she sees the fish is too funny 😂). She even earns agreement from Grandis on that stance; no work no food as they say. I do like how we get more bits a pieces of information about how the Nautilus functions as we see our heroes contribute as crew members.

I love how even though Grandis is the leader of her own team she is more then willing to do her part and help out on the sub and cooking is an essential part of any crew. But, oh my Anime Gods . . . Grandis you are a beauty, a maiden, a leader, warrior, with a fiery spirit of a flowing golden desert with an overflowing oasis of a heart and to top it all off you cook fantastically while adding a dash of love to your dish . . . Grandis you are a true gift 🤗 the full package!

LOL I really loved how she kissed and lightly nuzzled that fish thinking of Nemo XD Grandis looks so happy when preparing and severing the dish for Nemo too so adorable X3 Also, NEMO!?!? How could you even hesitate to taste this meal she prepared for you!!! Even at the thought of you rejecting it you almost broke her heart! See how overjoyed she was when you liked it 🥰 that is a smile worth protecting! But, Grandis there were multiple fishes you should have made some for everyone while adding your love to Nemo's dish I am sorry you were disappointed you should be thoughtful to others as well :3

The King chase sequence was very funny 😆 Grandis I love ya but that food distribution was too all over the place XD at least give King some actual fish meat! Although that might have been a blessing in disguise since he prevented you from tasting that over peppered angler (loved how wide she opened her mouth to eat it hilarious XD) but he scratched your beauty though so he must die ^-^ seems reasonable. I especially enjoyed the bit where she tried to fake sweetly ask Nadia to hand over King and accidentally said Blue Water very nice comedic callback XD

Also, in this episode it seems Electra is the main voice of opposition in our heroes becoming full fledged members of the Nautilus especially opposing Grandis . . . ah ha ha ha it is all coming together do I detect the fragrance of jealously in the air :D Electra who knows Captain Nemo so well and is constantly by his side all of a sudden has competition from a passionate lady like Grandis. That insult Grandis threw at her for looking older then she is OH MAN you could just feel the electricity of that insult running down your spine XD and that eyebrow twitch from Electra perfect touch! 🤣

Awww, Grandis looked so cute when getting the glare from Nemo and Grandis you and I share a similar mind because when you talked about Nemo getting upset saying that his angry face is wonderful as well LOL see that is how I feel about you because no matter what face you make even angry ones those are also wonderful on you as well 😍 good to know we are both a pinch of crazy and passionate ^-^

Really nice piece of knowledge Nemo passed on to Jean when he saw the heart of the Nautilus it is true science is an incredible wonder but it is up to the man who uses it whether it is a great blessing or wake of destruction. I really enjoyed Jean and Nadia talking on the deck of the sub at night and that Jean can see the good of Nemo and the Nautilus with his usual optimism despite seeing the face of evil. I agree Nadia the sea is a beautiful splendor but at night it certainly becomes ominous it is true the sea gives much but also has the power to take a lot away as well! I wonder if this is symbolic foreshadowing of what will come next for a heroes? Nice sendoff to a fun spirited episode :D

I found it odd how they were voting on adding these members to the crew. I felt like we skipped several days since they saved the ship from the mines.
Aside from the words of philosophy from Captain Nemo, this episode was fairly simplistic.

I can see that Electra may have unrequited love for Nemo, so she's not comfortable with enlisting Grandis, a potential love rival.

I've noticed that the Nautilus uniforms look like half of the NERV uniforms from Evangelion (only stripes on the left shoulder but not the right).

Its a shame that Grandis sucks ass now. Having her be basically Jessie from Team Rocket is a lot more fun than having her be some dumbass nothing in a dress slobbering over Nemo for no reason. I hope that's not the end of her character because it really is a complete waste.

Nadia also seems a little directionless despite having the show named after her but everyone else is getting along well. I suppose Marie is a drag too. I don't know what it is about this era of shows (both genuine and homages like Nadia is) having one or multiple annoying kid characters around that nobody likes. Even when they sort of pay off later, like how in Gundam the kids grow up and show up in later series, they still suck in the moment (and in Gundam the kids all suck when they grow up too, lol). Did people think that having stupid kids complain about everything got kids to watch their shows or something?

I guess it isn't a huge coincidence that all the male characters have a lot more direction and purpose at the moment.
