Although some find the story slow, I found myself completely sucked in by Tsukasa's character. He's the quiet type who is afraid of being hurt and getting too close to others, so he tries to stay alone all of the time. He's extremely difficult to handle, which gets him into a lot of trouble. The story is extremely well done - it perfectly balances learning more about the characters with learning more about the key of the twilight. The fact that a lot of the characters are completely different in real life than their game selves adds just SO much more depth into the series as well. The show goes through so much drama and epicness...Not to mention, any fan of RPGs will be overjoyed with all the RPG references. The animation is well done as well.

Soul Eater
Soul Eater is really an amazing all-around series. It's got a good plot and premise: humans that turn into weapons, living in a world that needs to be protected from the Demon God. It has the perfect balance of humour, serious moments, and epic battle scenes. The humour, most notably, is actually superb and not at all cheesey (as I find most anime humour to be when trying to mix it with action). The characters are loveable, and there are a lot of characters to like (each with a distinct little quirk). The music? that's also great. Oh, and the animation is really nice too - I like it more than the manga art even. Voiceacting? Bang-on. Maka's voice actor is simply amazing, especially in that last episode where she is screaming...No really, this show just has so much to give. There is nothing I disliked about it. NOTHING. I would have to nitpick like crazy to name something bad about Soul Eater.

Azumanga Daiou The Animation
A great show to watch with friends. It's cute and pretty funny, although the humour is a bit off-beat for some. Surprisingly, this is a comedy anime that has basically no parody elements and uses pretty much zero otaku terms. So you won't be left floundering in the middle of unfamiliar references (like Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei at times. Or Lucky Star.). Simple, and slightly bizarre. Not a lot really happens, but the characters are so lovable and it has loads of really great moments. Kagura is the best....

Air Gear
The first episode had me very skeptical that this was just going to be one huge harem with a side dish of action. I was rewarded with Ikki spending a lot more time doing dazzling tricks on air trecks than developping any real romances. What can I say, I don't like romance. Anyways, Air Gear delivers a very clever concept of having rollerblades that allow you to fly. It sounds lame, but watching the anime had me really wishing someone would engineer me some of those right away. You have to see it in action. You just have to. The manga is wonderful, but you NEED to watch the anime to see how gorgeous, fluid and free everyone looks. In fact, everything looks good in Air Gear (the art is very pretty!). This is turning into a review right now, but this show knows the perfect balance of blatant fanservice and actual action. This is the series that got me used to fanservice. Before it made me cringe. I don't know if that's a good thing or not, but oh well. ALSO. THE MUSIC. WATCH FOR THE MUSIC!

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
The first 5 episodes are hilarious, but after that, the jokes become so obscure that you couldn't possibly fully appreciate all of the references unless you're extremely familiar with Japanese culture. It's worth watching for the craziness and the art, but quickly loses its' humour.

Eve no Jikan
Although the story progresses a bit too slowly, taking the psychological route, there is still something kind of ethereal about Eve no Jikan. The pristine animation and high budget CGI is amazing to look at. The story is a bit subtle at first for those who don't like series that make you think. The concept of androids is overdone, but it still manages to come up with a plot that tugs at your heartstrings. It gets really good towards the end.

Nabari no Ou
I really liked the modern day ninja idea, but it seemed to be carrying it out with lacklustre. I ended up faling in love with the series because the interaction between Yoite and Miharu was so interesting. The fights didn't matter, I just wanted to see what would happen to those two. They became SO CLOSE it was almost like romance, which was a bonus for me. Somehow, this show got me hooked.

Sengoku Basara
Oh Sengoku Basara...This series is as over the top as Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Seriously. It's so over-dramatic that it's funny/bad. The characters are over the top as well. Battles contain fiery explosions whenever there is a clash. One guy is capable of knocking down an army of 100s by just running by them. OH AND MORE EXPLOSIONS. Did I mention this is set in feudal Japan? The plot is pretty simple: the anime throws a bunch of characters at you, all from different warring states, and puts them in a giant war against each other. You then watch them fight. Plus some minor interludes. It's pretty (i.e. very) simple, but the execution is good...The craziness of it all is definitely entertaining. Entertaining - but not really special. Still amazing for a laugh, and designed perfectly to be watched with others.

Canaan
Canaan starts off with a lot of action, but it really doesn't reveal anything. You have no idea of the purpose of any of the characters until a few episodes in. Once stuff is finally revealed, IT BECOMES IMPOSSIBLE TO NOT BE SUCKED IN. You get very involved with it after a while. The art is so beautiful and the action is so fluid...Very nice. The superpowers portion of gaining an extra organ and Maria's past could have definitely made the series longer...I guess it's fine how it is, although the ending leaves me wanting more...

Nyan Koi!
I expected this to be some sort of sad excuse to use panty shots AND cat ears in the same anime. I was (thankfully) mistaken. The series definitely has romance, bouncing D cups and short skirts but it's not a sickening amount. The antics of all the crazy cats usually stops it before it becomes too overbearing or corny. (I usually don't like romance...). The premise is well done, despite the fact that no matter how you phrase it, it sounds stupid. (He has to grant the wishes of 100 cats or he'll transform into a...cat! wow! scary!). Junpei makes the whole harem thing likeable as opposed to cringe-worthy by not being a sleazy pervert and knowing form the start that he only wants one girl. Go Junpei!

I can admit to seriously getting obsessed with this series as a kid, even going to the point of wearing a white scarf for a year like Kai without taking it off. ANYWAYS, there's nothing really mould-breaking about this formulaic shounen series, but it's still terribly addictive.

Yami no Matsuei
Most people don't watch this anime for the plot, I can tell you that. The individual little cases the two lead boys go over are pretty trivial and predictable. It's the actual backstories and perosnalities of the characters that are really good. Tsuzuki is a great character - he has some cliché points, but the way he's both as cheerful as a puppy and as distant as possible is surprisingly well portrayed. Hisoka is prickly without being unlikeable as well. The interactions are really touching, interesting, and very well animated. The actual "let's solve this case" plot of the series are entirely forgettable, only serving to let us see how the characters develop. If both aspects of the story were done better, I would highly reccommend this series to everyone.

.hack//Intermezzo
It's a nice little add-on to the .hack//SIGN stuff. It's a pretty cool story, although Mimiru's previous character really creeps me out. (Too kid-like. Playing as a loli character online is like begging to be taken advantage of). It's just an extra random tidbit they threw in because they felt like it.

Bakemonogatari
Bakemonogatari is one of those "Weird" series with abstract art and and even more abstract plot. Most of the series is spent with seemingly random scenes and extensive character dialogue, making it difficult to stay interested. The only thing that keeps you watching is how different the series is from the norm. Bakemonogatari isn't really interesting, but it certainly leaves a strong impression and will not easily be forgotten.

Seitokaichou ni Chuukoku
There is nothing really exciting or innovative about this series, but my love for the yaoi genre lets me enjoy it thoroughly regardless of this. Despite my enjoyment, I can still detach myself a bit from it for critique. The rape element is way too overused in yaoi...and the characters blush a LOT and the romance starts right away so that viewer's don't lose interest. Obviously, they didn't want to waste time building up a good plot. Nevertheless, the animation is good and the characters are believable and likeable.

Akira
I know this movie is supposed to be...really good. But I really don't see how some weird wrinkly kids and random, trippy hallucinations can entertain someone for an hour (or however long the movie was). The whole movie is a mess. The plot is strange, but not interesting. It's the kind of like when you see a weird person sometimes you're intrigued and sometimes you wince and look away quickly. Yeah. Akira is like the latter of the two.

I don't even know why I finished this series. It was okay at first, but slowly became more and more painful to watch. I don't like the art style, the mecha fights are boring, and I don't like any of the characters. At all. It's far too overdramatic as well. I was expecting so much from it too. I usually don't like mecha too much, so maybe that was a bit of a turn-off too. Then again, I'm just probably trying to be nice...
