Nageki no Bourei wa Intai shitai

As dungeon-like treasure vaults started appearing throughout the land, more and more people began signing up as treasure hunters—risking their lives to obtain the vast riches and ancient relics inside. In the imperial capital of Zebrudia, the top hunter party is the Grieving Souls—a group of six childhood friends led by Krai Andrey, who is thought to be the strongest of them due to having a reputed wide array of skills.

However, Krai actually has no special talent. His accomplishments are actually the result of his friends being overpowered. Krai has repeatedly attempted to leave the party out of fear his lack of aptitudes would one day cause his companions' downfall. Nevertheless, everyone around Krai thinks differently, making him feel obligated to remain the group's leader.

Easily the most slept on anime this season.

Nageki no Bourei wa Intai shitai features an MC that is above all else LAZY. He's surrounded in mystery and misunderstandings that continuously get him deeper into trouble while furthering the mystique that he's this OP adventurer that nobody should mess with. He formed a clan with his extremely talented childhood friends, and they made him their leader because he's the only one any of them will listen to essentially. This along with his knowledge and ability to use relics to their utmost ability continuously cause him to gain a reputation as this ultimate peak of adventurers.

The ... show contains a lot of comedy and some awesome action sequences, and the OP is phenomenal. The opening sequence and narration also changes with each episode which I thought was really cool and made me not want to skip it at all like I usually do.

I highly recommend giving this one a watch if you like fantasy and are on the fence about it. This is easily one of my favorites this season.

Mixed Feelings

The storyline of the anime is average. There are no noteworthy highs or lows.
Personally, I find it an affront to compare this anime with ‘Eminence in Shadow’.

Every single member of ‘Grieving Soul’ is a God-loved prodigy. The fact that such a party achieves extraordinary things is ‘normal’ in this respect.

The role of Andray Krai is incomprehensible. All his self-talk, which is basically the ‘truth’, makes him a person of incomprehensible luck. He could touch shit and at that moment it would mutate into a gold bar.

Everyone around him believes so strongly in meaning and purpose that they will search until they have confirmation. ... This is comparable to the phenomenon ‘the answer to everything is 42’ - even the author has admitted that this statement is meaningless. However, if you read into it long enough, you will find what you are looking for.

The fact is that the clan members are each a ‘monster’ in their own right, but this doesn't come across well and the anime lacks depth. It's also incomprehensible why he can't ‘retire’, even though he wants to so badly.

these flat plots are only surpassed by the incompetence of the opponents. You have to look for more incompetent antagonists and that's one reason why the anime falls short of expectations.

This is a story about a man wrestling between his inferiority towards his excellent party members, and said party's refusal to let him go. This heart gripping quest to understand their reason to almost forcibly keep him by themselves is...

some other story. What we have here is a protagonist that has no wit, no strength, no talent, no willpower, no convictions, no aspirations, but boy does he more than make up for it with plot armor. He will push responsibility onto others, happily mooch off his party members income while he sits on his ass doing nothing, but won't forget to grumble about how he ... wants to leave the party, will go into debts to purchase magical baubles...
And you can rest assured that the author will come at the end of the day to magically turn all his sleazy, lazy bum antics into the most brilliant stratagems, not just bordering but going well into prescience.

The fact that other characters are insufferable pricks, crazy bitches, or just plain stupid people is also worth noting.
If you're an otaku that hoards useless merch on your relative's money and don't feel the need to change your way of life then by all means, do watch this, since You're the sole recipients that can enjoy this bizarre power fantasy.

Other people, stay away. It may seem like typical, season fantasy slop, but is actually much, much worse.
