Haikyuu!! Movie: Gomisuteba no Kessen

Kenma Kozume has never considered volleyball fun or thrilling: it is merely something he is good at. But now Nekoma High School's volleyball team has qualified for the Spring Nationals and prepares to battle their long-standing rivals—Karasuno. Now, Kenma has to analyze the most confounding and resilient team and lead Nekoma to victory against them. Moreover, he will play against his friend Shouyou Hinata, Karasuno's short but incredibly proficient middle blocker.

Karasuno has never been able to beat Nekoma in practice matches. Even so, despite his usual indifference, Kenma feels a tinge of excitement at the prospect of facing Karasuno in a high-stakes official game with no do-overs. To advance to the semifinals and ultimately restore their team's former glory, Karasuno must find a way to overcome Kenma's brilliant strategy and defeat Nekoma in their own territory.

As a manga reader, after getting tired of no continuation from the previous season and having re-read the manga about 8 times in total, I would say they did a decent job at the animation. There are definitely a lot of stuff cut out from the manga with most the attention being given to Hianta and Kenma, which to be fair makes sense with the movie running time of only 80 mins. The highlight for me was the voice acting with Kaiji Yuuki-sensei and Murase Ayumu-sensei doing absolutely so perfect at voicing the hyped emotions behind each line. The OSTs and cinematography was chef's ... kiss and the pacing was decent for all the cutting up they did. I was at the edge of my seat this whole time and shaking even though I already knew what would happen.

In conclusion, I would say it is recommended, but if you are a fan of some specific characters from the manga, then I would also understand why you would have mixed feelings.

Mixed Feelings

First time I can say, that they didnt elevate the source material. Lots of skipped content. The emotional dynamics was done well. Overall instead of feeling like I was watching a volleyball anime. I felt like I was watching an anime sprinkled with volleyball. No tension, no urgency in the match. Still giving this a 7/10 bcuz I love haikyuu but very sad I waited so long for this. Understand a lot of people like the anime for purely the character dynamcis, I agree i also loved it for that. But the volleyball aspect made me grow to love a sport I knew nothing about. ... 2 full rallies in a 3 set match was not it.

Movie was way too fast and felt super rushed compared to the anime. I enjoyed it when every rally was long and extremely intense and new tricks were being displayed to win. Hinata being able to jump that high multiple times over 3 blockers was absolutely ridiculous.
Everyone was WAY too friendly with each other so the game didn't even feel like a tournament match, there was no intensity whatsoever.
I don't recall Tsukishima being so friendly either i feel like they ruined him in this tournament, he was just smiling and making friendly remarks.
Way too many characters did not get much talking time, the two ... coaches basically said nothing the entire movie.
The entirety of season 3 was basically one game and now they showed us 1 game in just 1hour and 30 mins.
