Synopsis

The Gates of Hell reopen, throwing the world into chaos and setting demons free to terrorize the land once again. These troubles seem irrelevant to quirky villager Touka Scott—until a demon attacks Yuna Eunice, his childhood friend. Luckily, the legendary hero Sion Blandan arrives in the nick of time to strike down the vile creature. Unfortunately, Sion soon dies after accidentally falling into a trap Touka set to defend his radish farm.

Anri Haysworth, Sion's necromancer companion, resurrects the hero by transferring Touka's soul into Sion's corpse. Now possessing the body of the legendary hero, Touka is tasked with resealing the Gates of Hell and defeating the demons that threaten peace. Together with Yuna and Anri, Touka copes with both his new reality and Sion's heroic legacy as he embarks to save the world.

Some may call it a “guilty” pleasure anime, but for me there’s nothing “guilty” about it. I unabashedly loved Yuusha Ga Shinda and it was one of my favourite shows of Spring 2023. It’s degenerate, silly, illogical, has hot waifus and embraces all of it. I loved every moment of this show and will definitely be reading the manga to get more of this.

As someone who went into this show completely blind, I thought it would be a nice fanservice-y fantasy show to relax with on Thursdays, but after the first episode I realised this was a pretty unique plot set up. The concept of ... the hero dying and having his body controlled by the MC was something I’ve never seen before and made for an interesting story. The thigh fetish trope is also a welcome addition. It’s not for everyone, but for me it’s hot and increased my enjoyment. What can I say, I like what I like.

It’s always nice to get fantasy stories where the MC isn’t super OP. Makes things more interesting and there’s an element of strategy that actually has to go into fights. The MC being weak also gives the supporting cast the opportunity to shine and get properly developed, which they often don’t have in fantasy stories. I really liked the supporting characters in this one. They all play big roles in the party’s success and are more than just fanservice relief characters which is a big plus.

I will say the story wasn’t the strongest, so don’t come into this expecting anything well written. It’s essentially your usual fantasy: form party, set out to save the world, etc., with a few unique twists due to the MC not having full control of the hero’s abilities. What really carried my enjoyment in this show is Touka’s fascination with thighs, the waifus and the comedy. It may not be Konosuba, but it’s dumb fun that I just really like. Not everything has to be well written to be enjoyable. For me anyway.

The animation in the show is passable. It’s nothing to write home about, but it’s not bad either. The art style is your usual modern anime bright colour palettes and modern designs. Nothing really stands out about the show from a technical or artistic point of view. Again, this show really does just rely on your ability to enjoy a really silly story.

This show isn’t for everyone and by now you should know if you’re into these types of shows. If you want something with substance and depth, this ain’t it. If you just want to turn your brain off and enjoy an anime ass anime, then this is for sure one for you. I am really going to miss this show on Thursdays, but am looking forward to the manga.

Yuusha Ga Shinda gets 9 out of 10.

Well this is degenerate trash that I probably would have not bothered to even look at but if you want to know if it's your type check out the trailer THOSE BIG JUICY THIGHS are what convinced me to give this one a go , and I was not disappointed. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

A Lackluster Journey with "Yuusha ga Shinda!" - A Disappointing Anime Experience

Rating: 4/10

"Yuusha ga Shinda!" or "The Legendary Hero Is Dead!" promised an intriguing premise, but unfortunately, it failed to deliver on its potential. Despite my initial excitement, it took an unusually long time to get in the mood to finish the anime. Normally, I would breeze through a 12-episode series in a day, but this one took me a week of on-and-off watching, indicating a lack of engagement.
