Otonari ni Ginga

Ichirou Kuga has suddenly found himself taking on the responsibility of caring for his two younger siblings after their father's untimely death. To make ends meet, Ichirou rents out rooms in the apartment complex he inherited and works full-time as a shoujo manga artist. However, his manga sales are low, his assistants have recently left, and deadlines are fast approaching.

As stress threatens to overtake Ichirou, salvation comes in the form of an extremely competent novice artist, Shiori Goshiki, who becomes his new assistant. With her skills, they are able to tide over the difficult situation, and things begin looking up. But in a bizarre accident, a supernatural experience unfolds between Ichirou and Shirou, which leads her to declare them engaged.

With this seemingly innocuous action upending his life, Ichirou now has to manage his new and peculiar relationship with the mysterious girl, all the while following his own passion and fulfilling the duties that rest on his shoulders.

Hello everyone! As always, I’ll keep this review brief and to the point.

I had overlooked this anime for quite some time, as the first episode initially struck me as bland and unremarkable. However, revisiting it after all this time and finally seeing it through was an unexpectedly rewarding experience. While the story might begin in a way that feels cliché, rushed, or even too convenient—especially with the relationship forming quickly without much of the usual chase—it actually works in the anime’s favor.

Rather than treating their connection as a given, the characters use that starting point to thoughtfully build their relationship from the ground up. It ... may feel like the romance is “served on a silver platter,” but the real charm lies in how the characters don’t take it for granted. They gradually develop a foundation that feels authentic and emotionally resonant.

For fans of sweet, romantic, and heartwarming stories, this series delivers all the fluffy feelings you could ask for. While some may find its approach too subdued or understated, it hit the mark for me. The character and plot development are more substantial than they might appear at first glance. I especially appreciated how the characters handle misunderstandings in a mature and sincere way, rather than dragging them out unnecessarily.

While the themes of romance and the supernatural aren't particularly unique, the way this anime handles them feels refreshing. At first, the plot may seem imposed on the characters, but as the story unfolds, they begin to make their own meaningful choices, which really elevates the narrative.

Overall, I would absolutely recommend this series to anyone looking for a light-hearted, sweet romance with a touch of depth.

Mixed Feelings

Don't mix up my personal rating with the recommendation. I put mixed feeling even though I personally enjoyed the series.

Good mature romances are a bit rarer compared to the high school aged ones so it's nice to see one pop up that is also not half bad.
The premise is interesting where the romance also has to balance the MC being a parental guardian. Overall the story is well written and the concept is fun watching a couple learn to love. The romance actually starts pretty early.

Drama wise, at least what the first season covers is pretty minimal and is cleared up fast compared to ... the younger geared toward anime which is absolutely wonderful. It takes a toll watching shows where they drag out the drama that could have been solved if they talked for 5 minutes.

Animation wise it really is on the weaker side and you can see where they cut corners and have lower effort. I will say the animation for when it's supposed to be emotional, they do a good job.

Music is fine, there's a few fine songs but nothing really sticks out even with the opening and ending.

The main reason I would say I have mixed feeling about this series is, you really have to enjoy romance anime/manga or romance series in general. Nothing super crazy happens and it is a relatively slow paced show so if you aren't particularity fond of these types of shows it might be a hit or miss. If you do then give this one a shot and you may not be disappointed and you may even want to share it with friends who also enjoy this type of entertainment. If you also want something to watch that is relaxing or tug at your romantic heartstrings then I would recommend.

This anime is hard-carried by the heroine. She's cute, considerate, and a fair bit more forward than the majority of female love interests that you see in anime and manga. She's about the only strong point of this anime, and the only reason I gave it anything higher than a 4.

The protagonist is generic and spineless; it seems that when they designed an original heroine, they didn't think to carry some of that creativity over to the male lead. The romantic development they go through together is rather slow, thanks largely to the protagonist's inability to have even the smallest bit of confidence in most ... situations. I sure love watching episode after episode where the girl does something bold and cute but the guy can't get enough of a grip to reciprocate properly.

Most of the rest of the anime is just random fluff where the protagonist takes care of his two younger siblings. Stuff that, I guess, is supposed to be heartwarming? Maybe it's just me, but I feel like if you put a bunch of childcare scenes in your shounen romance anime, you're just asking for a bad rating. As if there was any need to further dilute the already-rare bits of romance.

Anyway, it's not a horrible show, but it's certainly nothing above mediocre. You can find better shows to watch — don't waste your time.
