Odd Taxi

Odd taxi is an anime with a pretty good story. The claim that any scene in this anime matters may be a bit overhyped, but it's still an anime where lots of small details matter which can help you piece together the story if you notice them.

Odd taxi doesn't have a singular storyline. There's lots of different storylines all involving different characters, that revolve around the main character. You can imagine the storylines like some sort of braid revolving around the main character with all strands coming together at the end, making for a nice ending. Overall the story is of a good quality and ... it manages to create a fun mystery where I truly didn't know what happened until the end. The pacing isn't perfect and the entire fourth episode being about a supporting character and his background was an unexpected deviation from the rest of the anime but luckily this was the only deviation.

The characters are okay. Generally I don't like anthropomorphic animals as characters but the concept is incorporated impressively well in this anime and is actually a plot point so even if you dislike anthropomorphic animals, it shouldn't discourage you in this case. The characters all seemed reasonable enough and had okay personalities.

The animation/artstyle wasn't great but it seemed to be adequate for the story. The scenes didn't look great, but they were clear, which was important. The music isn't something I liked at first, it sounded obnoxious and loud at first but it did add a lot to the anime in later scenes. The voice acting was good but it was also unnaturally fast at some points so I hope you're quick at reading subtitles for those parts.

Overall this is an anime with a nice crime/mystery story. If you like those kinds of stories then you'll like this anime as well. If you have no real interest in the story but prefer pretty animations then this is probably not a good anime to watch. If you don't feel strongly about either of these things then you can give it a shot, it's not a conventional anime but it's quite good regardless.

Not gonna lie, I was fairly disappointed throughout the entire show. I basically only came for the only song in the anime, and the alpaca dance. Everything else was pretty avg. The story follows an opp who quite literally can't see straight, and is working as a taxi driver for the public. The entire meaning of evil was perceived only around this character. The other characters seemed fairly flat, and some of their places in the story could have been removed and still wouldn't make a difference. Even though there are some unique characters, they usually are fairly stereotypical which the main character doesn't help ... with at all. Since he also wraps them up in stereotypes. The trailer to this show was really goated though it had me interested.
I am not everyone so if you like the way the main character thinks then you'll enjoy it. Though many of the other characters don't get enough screen time or story depth to actually mean anything.

Do you enjoy cosplaying as a furry? - is what the producers gathered at the team discussion before creating this 'masterpiece' anime of the year animation. No its not the fact that this anime's premise is centered around furries and animal communication on why its so appalling. The protagonist, Odokawa, resembling a boomer beta walrus in character design, further adds to the show's glimpseness into why it is such garbo .

The concept of anthropomorphic animals as primary characters is a bold choice for Odd Taxi. While other anime have successfully blended human and animal traits (e.g: Beastars which is a real 10/10), this series struggles ... to find the right balance. The result is characters that come across as strange and disconcerting rather than endearing. For example Odokawa, a walrus resembling a stereotypical boomer, his appearance fails to captivate viewers visually. His physique and facial features hinder personal connection, especially when coupled with his role as a taxi driver—creating an impression of forced quirkiness.
But all this falls short to the BIGGEST negative of all. Which is the use of a gorilla character named Dobu, for perpetuating stereotypes by portraying him as a strong and intimidating figure. This representation aligns with the common trope of "musclebound" or "brute" characters often found in fiction. Many can argue that these simplistic and potentially harmful stereotypes associated with certain physical attributes and animal traits are cliche, but I would argue even go as far as arguing that it's racism.

Another aspect is Shirakawa, a WOMAN sheep character, with a FULL beard. If the presence of the beard could be seen as an effort to generate shock value or provoke reactions without offering sufficient context or depth for the character; I would say that the producers of this show indeed got what they achieved. But in my case, it would even distract me from being able to focus on the story when she's on screen.

If a girl sheep with a beard, a boomer walrus that has plans to die completely alone, and a wild raging stereotypical gurella is what you are into, then indeed; you will love Odd Taxi. I for one found it utterly appaling.
