Chainsaw Man

Chainsaw Man is a decent, albeit flawed anime. Some scenes look beautiful while others look dreadful. It certainly does feel like they had different directors for different episodes because there's so many stylistic differences in episodes in which the final fight looked absolutely dreadful compared to some of the earlier fights. It also never really helped that the anime just doesn't have any style to it, it mostly just looks like a grey CG mess in most fights and beautiful outside of the fights. The characters are enjoyable and the ending animations are very very stylistic compared to the actual show itself. Worth a watch ... but you're better off reading the manga for a better experience because this could've been way better if they had polished it way more.

I liked Denji, he’s a simple man with simple motivations and powers. I liked most of the characters as well, but I found their design a bit lacking. We couldn’t do better than black suit and tie? The art and animation are on par with its peers but do not exceed them. The story was well paced and driven. I loved the different endings and themes and the op was cool and memorable; this bumped it up to a seven. Before I continue I wanna get something out of the way. I do not like Power, I get the character but she is not for ... me. What dragged this series down was the lack of innovation. This is just another Naruto/Gintama style cast on a mission to collect the dragon balls/sacred jewel shards. It’s dark, mysterious and violent; and I would’ve loved it 30 years ago. Today it's just a variation of something I’ve already seen.

It looked promising, and the origin story was well-written and interesting. That is the only good part of this anime in my opinion, I don't think this is for people that dislike scenes with 'pervert' moments. The main character's goal in life is to touch boobs and occasionally makes hints in that spectrum in a childlike fashion. And if I had known that beforehand, I wouldn't have bothered watching it. It is a shame how these moments break the otherwise good story and characters, they are all unique in their own ways and you do see how the characters formed their personalities, but sadly ... are overshadowed by the goals of the main character.

The fun of the Chainsaw Man series is the absurdity and fast paced action that comes from high octane violence and dark comedy which Tatsuki Fujimoto delivers a masterclass on via the manga. However, the Chainsaw Man anime is a dry and slow paced mess compared to the source material. I never thought I would be bored watching CSM, but every episode sort of felt like a chore to get through. The animation is wonky and inconsistent, and I have to say I disliked the use of CGI. It felt lazy and out of place. The soundtrack was the worst oversight for me. A lot ... of scenes felt silent and lacked impact due to the poor judgement of the audio team. They spent so much time and effort into developing a new outro for each episode, why couldn't they put half that energy into development of decent background score? I've seen this criticism a lot before watching the series but now I can firmly say I agree with it - the decision to depict the CSM world through a hyper-realistic lens as opposed to an absurdist comedy shows poor understanding of Fujimoto's intention. I truly hope they take a different direction for the second season, because the first was not impressive whatsoever to me.

even before it's airing,(Chainsaw Man) was expected to break records ,the previews at least weren't lying from the beginning but that is just the tip of iceberg

1)Art style & Visuals 10/10
the anime has stunning visuals which can be classified as the best in the entire medium,this isn't an exaggeration as many few shows have managed to reach such quality in visuals ,even the background is pure & clean in most of the clips

2)Music 9/10
10 endings each of which featuring the biggest names in japanese music industry such as TK,Aimer,Vaundy
and an opening featuring kenshi yonezu
so it 's just nonsense to criticize the quality represented ... in the music

3)Characters 7.5/10
i 'm not a dude who simply hates the show for (one average element)because there isn't a perfect show&there will never be one
but the characters in Chainsaw man don't have that much of an impact compared to the other elements mentioned previously
we will talk about {Denji} since he 's the model of this work
he isn't that much of a deal compared to other shounen protagonist,he is just a horny dude who 's deprived from any thing that could express a normal human life however the main thing that leads his action is his sex drive that what makes him different but not in a good way actually becz i can handle a goofy character which could be funny & interesting in certain times
but every time Denji pops up on the screen it isn't that much of an enjoyment
the second character is {Makima}:maybe the sole reason that this show managed to get such reputation is Makima
i can't determine what is her motive or her power level since i didn't read the manga but all i can say is that she isn't a typical high caliber female fighter with crazy power up also i can't say that she is just a sadistic manipulator so probably i 'll wait & see
but she isn't that impressive
For Aki :he is the most reasonable character in this show a dude obsessed with revenge,i 'm expecting great things when it comes to
this guy
Power:everyone can expect her character from watching the pvs so it 's fine

overall Chainsaw Man is a show with insane production value with kick-ass fighting scenes & good world building

Supporting many CSM fans out there, the series is enjoyable. Both in their manga and anime forms. But critically speaking, though? Undoubtedly an above-average show. But that's it.

With how the story goes, the show faithfully follows fully to the source material. A simple end goal of killing the final boss. So far, nothing avant-garde has happened. Because it's only 12 episodes.

The studio nicely managed to pace this adaptation with a likable interpretation of the romance aspect. The same can't really be said for the comedy parts. Or maybe I already know the punchline, so it doesn't work the second time.

The artistic choice surprisingly ... leaned more toward a lifelike adaptation. While this direction keeps the characters design, the whole environment has an unbelievable realism touch. Although, the stark difference doesn't help make this show an unforgettable watch.

The VAs somehow didn't make much impact. While it's true the sound direction somehow subdues the usual overbearing anime voice acting, aside from a select few characters, it still doesn't help when they try to introduce so many casts in a single season. The tracks, on the other hand, are what can be said as the few points that hold up this show.

The characters themselves actually have a good amount of distinct traits. The viewers will get to know each cast better if given more screen time. Having bizarre powers does help a character stands out. Not to mention the more than peculiar personalities.

Personally, I would like the story better if only given more episodes. Some characters, like Aki, have an efficient story arc that makes them easily relatable. And I am not even talking about the story-specific elements. The character development, like how he manages to grow familiar with and accepting of other people, is what makes this show satisfying.

To be honest I expected more. Show came with a sizable amount of hype preceding it. Initial episodes felt very competent and all of us waited for the big thing to happen. Sadly it never came. After twelve episodes it feels like a prequel to a much more interesting story which was constantly being hinted at. New season came and there's no continuation being announced so the whole thing feels like a big magic trick but you are not allowed to see it just yet.

Animation was CGI at moments it seems but it wasn't too distracting. All the closeups and scenes where we are suppose ... to see emotions expressed were done by hand. So things fit in nicely.

Overall, if there's ever a continuation of this series, I would recommend watching this. As it stands on its own, I don't since you will be left with more questions than answers and huge desire to see more...

Chainsaw Man is a lesson on how to butcher an anime adaptation

For starters, how does someone decide, when adapting a manga with such a heavy focus on visual storytelling, to make it with some of the worst animation ever to come out of the studio??
What should've been so visually striking ended up being visually a cringefest

But not only that, another very important part of visual storytelling, aside from being appealing to look at, is, to state the obvious, the scenes themselves, what's shown on screen, how is it shown, something the manga does almost to perfection
The anime throws all that down the toilet, making scenes ... that are fun and/or add subtle character developement moments microseconds short, while streaching out to no end scenes that are completely useless to the point of making them look weird

The only reason this isn't getting a "not recommended" is because the more slice of life moments with Denji, Aki, and Power are such a wholesome joy to watch, and though the battles are CGI eye bleach, i can see there's a really good foundation in terms of fight choreography which would've looked absolutely epic with good animation

The Anime really excells at certain parts of its story, which is really refreshing, the World Building and the shocking imagery are really it's strong points, but sadly on terms of characters and certain points of consistency it lacks the quality it needed to live up to its hype.

Starting with maybe it's best element, the World Building is clearly exeptional even considering that there are a lot of stories with very similar elements. The rules and laws of the world are clearly set down at the start and they have been adhered to throughout. This i not limited to only the rules but the character's ... situation, place in the world and chances as well.

The Plot is straight forward with clear and easy goals, which is one the most well-known fact about this anime. That does not just make it unique, but memorable and empathetic as well. The clear and easy plot also leaves place for the World Building and Characters to shine even brighter.

Sadly, on the Characters front the anime does not excells that notably. While all characters have all their basic elements, they do not emerge in any way, we could even call most of them basic. This takes a toll on imersion as well, as most characters aren't even approachable because of this from the audience's standpoint.

On top of that there are certain flaws with the anime as well, a lot could be amended in the second season and most of them are barely outstanding from nitpick category, but they are still lowering the potential enjoyment, and even the objective score.

Minor Spoilers from now on:

- We meet a type of species in a random mission for the first time, then after the mission ends, we get introduced to a new character of the same species we got just introduced to.
- Characters either directly contradict themselves or their said motivation, without anyone acknowledging it.
- Certain characters are said to be human, but have superspeed and strength, the first exceeding the speed of sound.

There are a lot of editing errors, but as they are mostly nitpicks as they did not affect the overall story in any major way, I'll just leave at mentioning the fact.

On the somewhat subjective style, I hated the artstyle, the contrasts were really weird for my eyes, and that half 3D was just uncanny valley for me. The worst part was when the background, foreground and character were all on different layers, but they weren't synced so they did not track properly. For me the most noticeable was at Ep8 2:19-, but friends complained that it was even worst in certain fightscenes.

On the subjective positive side, the anime did surprise me, with one thing. [Major Spoiler Warning]
At ep8 I knew that most major people were not dead, so I was somewhat distanced from the whole fight scene as I knew that most won't have drastic consequences, but X's death dragged me from my complacency which was really refreshing.

The last time that happened to me was Danganronpa 1, where the character I thought to be a tutorial one turned out to be someone else. (Maybe I am just too stuck with a western media mindset, as after the fact I realized both have a somewhat same arc as they got character so they can die now.)

Half mam. Half devil. All chainsaw.

Denji gave his life to a cute devil. And in return that devil gave his life to him.
Now with their powers combined they are Chainsaw Man. Now he's a hero and he's gonna cut devils down to zero.

Denji's motivation is very noble; he is doing this so he can finally grab some girl's fine tits.

Guns seem to become a very crucial aspect of this anime half way through. The main villain is a gun devil. And its almost as if the anime is making a commentary on gun violence.

The anime is short but i prefer that over pointlessly dragging ... on forever.

The downside is the lack of character development. Characters show up and you have no idea who they are. Alot of characters seem interesting but then never get the chance to truly develop.

The main character isnt that interesting either. He starts off interesting but devolves into bland. There is nothing about him worth rallying behind. There is nothing to root for. Atleast he doesnt make speeches and go on and on about wanting to be king of the devil hunters, or the best devil hunter ever, or anything like that.

The writing is also nothing special. There is an episode that starts off very interesting where it seems the characters may have to escape an inescapable situation using their smarts instead of brute force...but then the problem gets solved with brute force....so disappointing.

It's good. It's not the show-stopping, revelatory, be-all-end-all show the anime culture train at large would have you believe it is, but it's still good at the end of the day.

Animation is stellar. Reminds me of 90s animation where things can be static sometimes, but when the characters move, boy is it dripping with expression.

Action is good. Wild scenes, hyper violent, your usual modern dose of cgi, etc.

Characters are a mixed bag. Most of them are assholes, selfish or apathetic, but they at least make it entertaining. I think this show is a perfect example of how die hard weebs can find moe in literally ... anything they're obsessed with, even if the character is specifically written to be unlikeable. "OMG she is EVERYTHING!!" - about a character who wouldn't think twice about shitting in her hand, throwing it at you and leaving you to die. Hey, at least she's cute tho!

OST didn't leave an impression on me, but the opening is a banger and the outros are very unqiue.

Story is... just enough to support the real appeal of the show, which is watching whackjobs kill each other in crazy fashion. Let's be real though, it's not that interesting. They throw out some exposition for world building and character motivation, but only touch on it further when absolutely necessary. This is most definitely a character/event driven series(don't stay for the narrative).

The thing that caught my attention the most with this one is it's clear reverence to gonzo-esque cinema. The creator is clearly a huge fan of Tarantino, Gilliam, Jonze, Coen Bros, etc. This is also why I said it's a character/event driven show. People don't necessarily remember the story from the movies by those beloved directors more than they remember moments and dialogue.

I'll be back for the animation at least, and if the story actually gets interesting that'll just be a bonus.

I say go eat 💩, I like chainsawman n i think it worth the wait. Non-manga readers seen to like it, love it. N CGI isn't that bad. The story is good, VAs r good, the Ending songs r good,and Mappa is good,but the fandom is 💩Manga is aslo good. I really love the 12 different ending songs. I recommend it, both the anime n manga.
But i don't think it an anime for newbies. And no brain fan boys.

Chainsaw Man is an average series that lacks originality. The story and characters have potential, unfortunately neither are fully realized in this season. It does not help that the animation is inconsistent and the use of CG is distracting. The series follows closely to the manga, which while largely a good thing, has its drawbacks. The anime suffers from sluggish pacing and unnecessary exposition dumps that do little to enhance or add value to the narrative. Unfortunately, Chainsaw Man's multiple shortcomings hinder its ability to stand out in a crowded genre, and fans may find it more rewarding to read ... the manga instead.

This anime is a very popular anime but it didn’t have me in the first episode. Honestly, I would have quit in the first episode because I thought it was unnecessarily gory for my enjoyment. Now don’t get me wrong, almost all of these action anime’s have blood and violence, but when I tell you this first episode was beating a dead horse on the gore, it made sure you had not doubt in your mind. Show has good potential and is definitely interesting, but I wouldn’t say its my cup of tea, but I guess to each their own. I would also say I ... was surprised when there was this one juicy romance moment that had us all sweating for a second.

I haven't read the manga before seeing the show. What I have seen though, was the huge hype it was surrounded with, even going as far back as a year before the release. From the trailers and the glimpses of the anime that I got, and the opinions of those a lot more acquainted with the source material, I joined the hype train. And I shouldn't have. What I expected from the trailers and the "vibe" they gave off was completely off the mark. I expected a dark, sad, gory and gritty story set in a world constantly ravaged by Devils. The only part ... that was delivered on was the gore and even that I cant wholeheartedly endorse, since the animation is so aggressive in its cuts. The theme set by the trailers hold only for the first one, maybe two episodes, and then it disperses and the tome of the whole story completely shifts. From a sad story of a boy living in a cruel world with his only companion being a devil, the anime switches into another comedy riddled shounen, another carbon copy of the genre just like we've seen so many times. Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, all the same plot with different coloring, the anime becomes just another clone of a wannabe comedy with yes, great animation, cool and sometimes memorable characters and intense moments, but the plot becomes just another " main character has a secret superpower, there is a main villain, but he has guards that will increase in difficulty who have an X object the main character has to gather to fight the main villain in probably next 5 seasons". Whatever. We've seen this story play out a million times before and we will see it a million times again. Always a cool seasonal show to check out. What bothers me the most is just the disappointment I was filled more and more with each episode I've seen. Seeing a story so reveled and the tone set by the trailers I was enjoying the show less and less with each mildly funny gag, blank characters that are there just to fill classic tropes of main characters friend group. Is the world cool? Yes. Is the lore/ powers cool? You bet. Is the show enjoyable to watch? Objectively yes. It's a good anime, but it stays in the boundaries set by its predecessors and does not venture beyond one bit. You can watch it and have a good time, but don't make the mistake of setting your expectations higher than another well animated shounen made as blank and palatable as possible.

Chainsaw Man had an insane amount of hype around it. It was impossible to evade its intrusive social media presence from fans of the manga that were hyping up the release. The level of excitement around the series was so intense that those of us who had never even heard of Chainsaw Man ended up giving the series a chance to see what all of the commotion was about. To put it bluntly, the hype was blown way out of proportion. The anime was fine overall. The animation was great, the action scenes were a thrill to watch, and the story was pretty decent. But ... all of that hype for this? Either the plot gets far better from here or it feels like everyone has lost their mind over something that isn’t that mind blowing. This review seems more like a review of the community and hype more than the actual anime. That being said, there isn’t much to say about these first 12 episodes. But it does lay the foundation for an epic quest to take down the Gun Devil.

i stopped watching anime for about year and to the point where i couldn't sit for a single episode, i tried to get back into it by seeing chainsaw man. i read the manga about a year and a half ago and i remember it being great so i decided to give the anime a shot, and to be fair it was really good i binged all six episodes that are out rn. its a very easy story to follow with some great characters, hate that fucking cliffhanger in episode 6 cant wait for more ( kobeni is cute but shes so fucking annoying ) ... lol

So many long reviews, I'll keep it simple: I give it a 7 "for a shounen", and I'd basically give all shounen's a 6 out of 10 compared to all anime. It's a fun shounen. Basic plot. Macro plot is that there is a big bad evil monster that did big bad evil stuff, and they're slowly working towards trying to find and kill it. In between this larger macro plot; the micro plots center around monster of the week/arc where the demon hunters have to fight and kill or capture the monster of the week. Main characters work for a public police-like agency that ... tracks down demons and kills them. Lots of the main characters are part-demon themselves, or have pacts with demons and this gives them powers that can be used to kill or capture the evil feral demons they hunt. Our main character is a simp boy who was so deprived and abused as a child by organized crime members, that he is easily manipulated by a hot chick into doing anything for the promise of a reward of some vaguely (or overtly), sexual favor, and basic necessities like food. MC can pull a string in his chest and turn himself into a part-demon that has chainsaws for a hand and face and he and his other teammates fight monsters.

That's about it. People die, villains die, lots of colorful action scenes, and they are reasonably well animated. It's fun to watch: it's eye candy, but not really big on plot. There's not a lot of tension building or character development, or story that keeps you watching. It's all about colorful action. I would definitely recommend Noragami, or Yu Yu Hakusho, or Hellsing, or Attack on Titan over this if you want an action shounen but also more story.

It is what it is. Colorful, brainless, action eye-candy.

Honestly I have read the manga and I wasn' t too amazed but still decided to watch the anime because why not. And honestly Chainsaw man did not disappoint. Whilst it isnt an anime that I would normally watch it is definitely worthy to try out. Even if its just on the basis of the animation, voice acting, and OT and the various ET. The reason why I am slightly hesitant is solely beacuse of the plot. When reading the manga I wasn't blown away, everything was lack luster and it felt like a stereotypical manga that ... used crude humor and didnt really delve deep into any actual meaning. But now after watching eight episodes that is kinda what I like about it. Instead of being a stereotypical shonen anime where the main character is powered by the love of his friends, Denji is just powered by his lust. The plot itself is kinda bland but overall the animation is phenomenal, its literally what Tokyo Goul should have been. So I do have mixed feelings as I quite like lighthearted animes with a likeable maincharacter that teaches me life lessons, I do still like Chainsaw man. The highpaced plot makes sense with the morally doubious cast and I genuinely am in love with the animation. Honestly I would compare Chainsaw Man to Demon Slayer and Dorededodo. Chainsaw Man pulls off the high paced plot that demon slayer attempted to havv better due to the nature of the characters and how interestingly theyre written. Comparing this to Dorededodo due to the gritty weirdness and mysterious element. Overall I would say that Chainsaw man is definitely worth the watch, its something different and its so well animated.
