Kyuukyoku Shinka shita Full Dive RPG ga Genjitsu yori mo Kusoge Dattara

Ten years ago, at the peak of the VRMMO development industry, a game titled "Kiwame Quest" entered the scene with potential like no other. Boasting a colossal total of 10 sexdecillion branches of possible story scenarios, this game pursued ultimate realism, ranging from humanlike NPCs to the perfect replication of all senses and physical abilities. But it soon became apparent that the game was too realistic, and the popularity of VRMMOs in general gradually began to plunge.

At present, due to an accident a few years prior, the high school student Hiroshi Yuuki now immerses himself in full-dive RPGs as a form of escapism. After failing to acquire the latest version of his favorite game, Hiroshi stumbles upon a game shop and meets its beautiful clerk Reona Kisaragi who convinces him to buy a copy of Kiwame Quest so that they can play together.

The first time Hiroshi plays the game, he marvels at the realism it offers. However, his astonishment is short-lived as he sets off a series of misfortunes, quickly realizing that the game is even worse than his already stressful life. Nevertheless, Hiroshi still finds himself logging on again despite his growing contempt for the game. With no do-overs in his current disadvantageous situation, Hiroshi only has one goal—clearing the game!

This was so funny. Don't watch this with the mindset of this being serious anime its just goofy and silly anime i love it. Art style was good. Character are really good they do what they are supposed to do like one of the character is supposed to be annoying and stupid and it does that job well it annoyed me so much but it was a good character. mc back story was stupid and hilarious af story is unique if it gets a new season it will be nice. the only complaint i have is that they left us on a cliff hanger

Mixed Feelings

I was originally drawn to this anime because it was animated by the people who did Uzaki-chan and it was created by the person who made cautious hero. I accounted for both factors and concluded that this would be an interesting watch.

In the beginning the story really interested me. The concept of the anime isn’t something viewers would be new to, but the setting was a nice change up. In this world where fully vr games are norm and good games are sussed out from the bad ones. We find the main character delving into this comedic journey of subverting your expectations by being ... incredibly unlucky and making all the wrong decisions. It’s something I really enjoyed but grew to have a distaste with since you always knew that things weren’t ever going to go the main characters way. I enjoyed the pacing and what they chose for the contents of each episode.

The art was something I was initially drawn to because, I knew the people who would be animating it. I specifically watched it, because I enjoyed the art style. Its nice and colourful. I love the background of the scenes as well as the designs of the characters. The music wasn’t anything that jumped out to be however, I really enjoyed the opening for the anime. I think that the ending isn’t all the rememberable though.

I struggled to like any of the characters. While I could always see where the main character was coming from, he never did anything that I found to be likeable. I think the fact that the character is always getting a beating and is always unlucky is just hard to watch. I don’t know why but, it is also apparent that the characters don’t particularly bounce off well from one another. Everyone always seems like they are there because of there own agenda. There quirks are overbearing, and it can make the characters feel distant. While it might be a style of character design for some people, it wasn’t for me.

I had a good time with this anime, and it did make me laugh on the occasion. There were scenes that made me surprised, and I looked forward to each of the episodes as it came out every week. I lost a bit of interest towards the end because, I grew tired of the characters but it’s not something I hold against it. If they were to make more of this anime, I would check out the following episodes, but I can’t say that I would watch the whole series.

There is a timeline in which Full Dive is a competently written, thoughtful satire of the video game world anime genre. One in which reviews include phrases like "black humor." Perhaps even one in which the characters in the show are endearing.

But it is not this timeline.

[spoilers]

In general, it is a good idea to make your protagonist someone with whom the audience can empathize. It's reasonable to saddle them with emotional baggage that would make them vulnerable or perhaps a bit jaded. Well, in episode one of this nightmare our protagonist straight up murders his virtual best friend, for which the game awards him ... an achievement, "Best Friend Killer." See, on paper, that sounds like it could be pretty funny. But the npc's of the game are, for all intents and purposes, indistinguishable from ordinary people. They appear to have feelings, memory, and they interact perfectly. So from an aesthetic point of view, your protagonist starts the show having committed an involuntary homicide and then fled from the scene. If the protagonist of an isekai is an insert for the audience, then what I feel after episode one is embarrassment, disgust, and guilt.

And that's what I mean about an alternate timeline in which this show is great. An idea of an criticism is there, but the aesthetic is botched. It's like the show wants to revolt, upset, and mock its audience. It has a certain artwork to it sort of like a serial killer who decorates his cellar with a mobile of the skulls and femurs of his victims. The show is about a video game that does everything it can to make its players feel miserable, depressed, and hopeless out of some tortured philosophical belief that learning to endure immense and pointless suffering can polish a young man's soul. And guess what, the show is exactly the same thing for its audience.

In the end I gave this show a score of "dreadful," because I mean it literally. It elicits a strong feeling of dread. But you know what, there is something beautiful in there. Like a diamond in a pile of rusty shaving razors.
