Suehara Maru is childhood best friends with one of Hozumino High School's most popular girls, Kuroha Shida. Cute, outgoing, and affectionate, Kuroha is the perfect older sister type. She has boys constantly begging at her feet to be with her. Yet, when she confesses to Suehara one day, he immediately rejects her; he just can't think of her in that way! Besides, he already has his sights set on his first love—school idol and renowned author Shirokusa Kachi.

Suehara believes that he has a chance with Kachi after one fateful meeting, but soon, he finds out that Kachi has a boyfriend! With his dreams now shattered, Suehara agonizes over what could have been. That is, until Kuroha approaches him with a proposal: "let's get revenge."

Osamake is a romcom, a messy and all-over-the-place rom-com but can be charming if you enjoy its virtues, which are few but there are.

Those virtues are the premise, a mix of harem, rom-com with suspenseful mind games, and how its development is promising at first which is tied to the MC (Maru) development through the story which it happens along with other girls of the harem.
However, is the execution where it greatly fails.

The story tries to blend rom-com with mind games (which include alliances, plot twists, and info dumps) among the members of the harem. Turning each arc into some sort of Battle Royale ... where the objective is to make Maru fall for one of the girls and to achieve that each of the girls will use any means possible they have on their hands and all of that happens in parallel to the story's progression which is about Maru's revenge and the aftermath of it and at first sound cool. But once the development start none of those aspects blended well.

The mind games are rushed, often predictable, and other times do not make sense in their development...or they are too high IQ for my stupid brain. Besides, on top of that, some of their resolutions are lackluster compared to the long speeches and infodump the anime throw about the plans.

Following this, the story development, which is Maru's revenge on Kachi and its aftermath, is decent but not good enough to compensate for the badly executed suspense elements and that's because this part of the plot also relies on suspense and plot twists to move forward the story...which are also rushed and badly executed but this time from the supporting cast side beside the members of the harem. Making Maru the only member of the main cast to not act as a 4d chess player and more like their charming pawn.

The comedy goes unnoticed most of the time outside the usual harem shenanigans (situational misunderstandings, jealousy between the girl and the "Kyaaa! Hentai!" types of jokes but without overreactions) but once they landed they were not strong enough to make me laugh besides just drawing me a soft smile in my face.

The romance section is a bit more developed than both previous points despite starting vanilla and plain but it starts gaining steam as the story goes on and even reaches interesting peaks during later episodes and actually reaches a remarkable point in the final arc. But, as a tradition with LN or Manga adaptations, all of this is thrown away at the last minute but at least the status quo and the situation of Maru are different from the start of the story but don't wash away the bitter sense the season finale left.

Furthermore, while the cast is colorful, grows through the story, has enough screen time to know about them, and are active in the story they are not remarkable and while they are not plain, they are neither interesting on their own. I would have overlooked that if the suspense part was implemented better since is when the harem (Kuro, Kachi, and Momo) show their selfish side to get Maru's love where they shine.

Finally, in the production, Doga Kobo dropped the ball in this but not hard enough to be unwatchable if you are not picky. Actually, the dance sequences are not CGI.

Overall, Osamake is more aimed at anime rom-com connoisseurs who just want to watch something to kill time. Because while it tried to be something interesting and captivating it failed on it and only the rom-com elements were the ones that kept it afloat.

Mixed Feelings

A fresh retake on the old Childhood friend RomCom

Destroyed by a frankly lackluster execution.
You have a beautiful trio of ladies with their own takes on the past of the MC.

Each one with a different take to falling in to a relationship with the MC.

This show should had been so much better, but instead in an effort to emphasize the childhood friend.
Broadcasted her as an over the top Highschooler with on-the-go decision making but with the mindset of a gradeschooler.

... As you watch by the episodes, the story does slowly develop on to the MC's past being the prime of the series but.
It then suddenly comes to a screeching halt when all it felt like.
Were two lackluster attempts at capturing the heart of the MC with again his past being the prime.

You, the reader can probably understand.
How I emphasize on the whole, "The MC's past"
Cause that is what the show was all about.
It was centered on this incident with little to no backings as well as story.

Frankly, this is a series you play with an another tab opened on your browser.
Sadly, the production and artwork felt a lot modern and fresh.
But is destroyed by lackluster writing and script.

Sorry.
a mere 5/10 is all I can give.
At least they tried.

This would be an anime that would score a borderline at 3 and lower than 5. Its pretty subpar. Having meh characters, and flawed storyline. That’s all I gotta say. Its not the worse in the world however, because there are some good gems into it like the comedy which is there and some pretty decent music which makes up for the issues I have explained earlier.

If this has a second season, I would probably give this a similar score if it remains the same, but if they happened to improve on the episodes for the second season, then I would give this higher than ... even a 5. I feel like this anime needs a season 2 and the reason this should really NEED a second season is that the ending just feels incomplete and It’s really misunderstood to the fact it has zero logic and zero common sense into it. Yes, I know people would say this doesn’t deserve a second season, but give it a chance like how Date a live improved with it’s 4th season, when s1 - s3 doesn’t make the cut.

I wanna also add up that if you want to watch an anime having the same voice actors feat. Ayane, Inori and Matsuoka, then try out Quintessential Quintuplets. They have the complete comedy, storyline, and character development into it. Or if you want a romcom anime that has comedy and complete storyline into it, then there are other animes out there that has decent romcom. Yea, you might tell me, what are the anime romcoms recommended to watch? Well, I can’t tell because there are a LOT i have seen in the past and in the current day, so might as well get into it.

Now, I will leave my warning to this anime because this is something that they should learn from their mistakes. Not only this comment they should see, but also the other reviews I have read about this anime, which I really agree or disagree. Note that I’m not copying their reviews. I just see what anime are they trying to show me and then give my thoughts into it.

Again, pls don’t get offended because again its based on personal opinions.

Now I’m gonna continue my journey to the next anime to watch and review. I will give hope to this by redeeming themselves.

But if they don’t then I really see nothing. NOTHING! But just the same loop.
