Certified Rotten™
Anime
Titles labeled Certified Fresh™ are those with an adjusted score that ranks in the bottom 10% of anime I’ve watched, based on a Bayesian average. The calculation blends two factors: an anime’s own MAL score (weighted by how many members rated it) and the overall average score (weighted by a fixed constant of 100,000 “minimum votes”). The result is this weighted combination divided by the total of both parts.
In simpler terms, the more members an anime has, the more its own score drives the result. If it has relatively few members, the adjusted score leans toward the global average instead. This keeps small, obscure shows from being artificially boosted by a handful of ratings, while well-watched shows with large sample sizes stand on their own.
