Kimi wa Kanata

High schoolers Mio Miyamasu and Arata Kishimo are childhood friends. Mio harbors feelings for Arata, but she lacks the courage to express them. Even when her friend Madoka asks if she is in love with Arata, Mio reluctantly declines and encourages her friend to pursue her own feelings for him instead.

Later, while Mio and Arata visit a fortune-teller, the boy notices a strange phenomenon and tries to drag Mio out of the shop—much to her annoyance. As Mio begins to question her relationship with Arata, an argument erupts between them. That night, feeling guilty for what had occurred, Mio ventures into the rain to apologize to Arata and make her feelings clear. However, an accident along the way turns Mio's world upside down.

I honestly don't understand why people hate the film so much. It's honestly solid. Yes, it has its faults but I was genuinely invested throughout the film. Though I wish it had featured more romance between the two leads and felt somewhat rushed in the beginning, I'd still recommend this film. It was a decent film that did it's job, even if it the idea itself was unoriginal. I guess people don't like seeing relationships that are genuine or they're just reminded of their own past, hence why they call it trash and a waste of time (probably reminiscent of their own lives). All that ... aside, I'd definitely watch it again.

Mixed Feelings

In short, I can only describe this movie as “if you took Kimi no Na wa and removed everything which makes it good”.

Oh, wait? That exists already?

While Kimi wa Kanata, ‘Over The Sky’, isn’t quite as appalling as Tenki no Ko in terms of the sheer quantities of random supernatural plot points pulled straight from the director’s backside (it does still have its “HOW!?” moments, though), this movie suffers from the exact same problems of main characters lacking depth (Mio was alright, but that Boy was just your standard cardboard cutout love interest), side characters who essentially add nothing to main story, and an average ... teenage romance subplot which steals FAR TOO MUCH screen time from the potentially interesting mystical elements (hence the overwhelming lack of logic and explanations throughout the film).

No spoilers on the specifics, but I was prepared to give this a 5/10 until the movie decided it was a good idea to pull what is essentially the “it was all a dream” trope out in the final act, showing that our main girl somehow suffered exactly zero lasting consequences whatsoever from a life-threatening injury because “mAgiC”.

The animation and insert song were fine but nothing to write home about - probably a good thing, since I have a particular hatred towards movies which try to hide their dumpster fire, plot-hole ridden, incomplete stories by dumping an obscene amount of money into the visuals and soundtrack (*cough* this is still infinitely better than the aforementioned 2019 Shinkai film *cough*).

Overall, if you’re like me and looking for supernatural elements with good explanations, stay far away from this one. However, if you just wanted a cute romance story and aren’t that bothered about the overarching magic, maybe you’ll like this more than I did.

I wanted to try this movie since forever, all those reels keeps me attracted so i gave it try.

First of all, plot is weak. Started pretty normal and after first part of movie it all goes down. Mc girl is afraid of taking action, always giving up before she even give it a try. That attidute hurt her love, mc guy and had negative impact on whole movie which wasnt great. Most of movie she was undecesive, then she singed all of sudden, and then screamed and cried for rest of movie.

Mc guy is in love with her and giving it all to make her ... happy but she doesnt deserve such a great guy sticking his life for her.

Fantasy part of story was lame, characters are weak, felt pretty rushed, mc girl was unlikeable and ending even tho i didnt like characters i wanted to see more but as soon everything was over, movie stopped there. One of the worst movies i ever saw.

One tip: stay away. Rating is pretty accurate, could be even lower.
