Kimi wa Kanata

It's not bad but not too good either. It's a very chill movie that you watch some afternoon to pass the time and it's nice to see.

(+) The animation is decent and it feels cute and positive. They added some fantasy. The romance is also adorable but the reasons they have issues are for dumb reasons.

(-) The plot lacks so many extraordinary features, the characters are too generic, they tried to add something supernatural with some character but at the end it's irrelevant. Just a passing dream. Not intriguing, not exciting.

Even with the darkest and the most melancholic mood I think that I wouldn't ... be too attached to this. At least it has a passing score.

It is like Kimi no Nawa plus Hello World feat isekai but bad

There are many things that I dislike in this movie.

-The animations are hit and miss. sometimes it is good sometimes it is bad like in their "not-a-date" date when it is just pictures that look likes a slideshow and when she sing, I think it is better for her not the one to sing and just a flashback since it doesn't fit well.

-maybe a little bias for me here but supporting characters have much better voice acting than the main characters.

-the plot is disastrous, too many unnecessary scenes and bad pacing

-it is a ... generic story but fail at some part. it doesn't have a strong plot but the presentation of different genre mixed in the story is pretty bad like its just pretty weird to combine a romance with a bit of sci fi then add another fantasy that includes characters that looks like from an isekai story, the example is the reqiuem and them just gimon fight it like am I watching the still watching the same anime?

-The sound in this movie is also average

if only they decide to stick with just less genre and solid plot it can be good. it is still a nice to watch if you have so much free time but not worth watching, better look for something better.

In short, I can only describe this movie as “if you took Kimi no Na wa and removed everything which makes it good”.

Oh, wait? That exists already?

While Kimi wa Kanata, ‘Over The Sky’, isn’t quite as appalling as Tenki no Ko in terms of the sheer quantities of random supernatural plot points pulled straight from the director’s backside (it does still have its “HOW!?” moments, though), this movie suffers from the exact same problems of main characters lacking depth (Mio was alright, but that Boy was just your standard cardboard cutout love interest), side characters who essentially add nothing to main story, and an average ... teenage romance subplot which steals FAR TOO MUCH screen time from the potentially interesting mystical elements (hence the overwhelming lack of logic and explanations throughout the film).

No spoilers on the specifics, but I was prepared to give this a 5/10 until the movie decided it was a good idea to pull what is essentially the “it was all a dream” trope out in the final act, showing that our main girl somehow suffered exactly zero lasting consequences whatsoever from a life-threatening injury because “mAgiC”.

The animation and insert song were fine but nothing to write home about - probably a good thing, since I have a particular hatred towards movies which try to hide their dumpster fire, plot-hole ridden, incomplete stories by dumping an obscene amount of money into the visuals and soundtrack (*cough* this is still infinitely better than the aforementioned 2019 Shinkai film *cough*).

Overall, if you’re like me and looking for supernatural elements with good explanations, stay far away from this one. However, if you just wanted a cute romance story and aren’t that bothered about the overarching magic, maybe you’ll like this more than I did.

Oh hell. Stop sending so much hate to this movie.

Yes, and i will even add one more: Chihiro. It's human decency not to forget this one, please.


Really, to all the people who want to watch it, i'll say it briefly:
-Don't watch this movie as a movie, but a reminder of all the beautiful movies it is [copied]... inspired from. Chihiro, Your Name, The Girl who Lept through time, and others that you'll find yourself. ...
-The ending is worth watching it, it's a light in the darkness, truly.
-No one except Mio gets a true development.

In reality, i'll add some things here:

- It should never have been made into a movie, i would have liked to see a better character development in all the others characters. In a TV series, aty least, even if just three episodes of one hour.

-I think this movie is made only for fun, not for money, because it's too cliché to make a crazy box-office. Watching it for the memories it reminds you is the best way to part ways with "Kimi wo Kanata" with no regrets.

-Mio was definitely a good character, even if it seems like an unpopular opinion. She's got a true development, the storyline was made correctly, and i could never have guessed what happened to her before they explained it.

You feel like i'm extremely dumb, like, how can i appreciate a half-assed story like this ? I'm not the smallest part dumb. It's just that when i watch something, and it's rare, i try to immerse myself in the story and see what is great about it.

And I'll repeat it: Even if he killed the potential of the others, the Director made Mio an incredible character, and I can only feel grateful for this.

Really Great Animation, Visuals. Characters were also good and music was alright too. What it lacked was depth and seriousness. The idea was good but wasn't executed well!!

It felt it was trying to do something different but a decent story wasn't even available. The main focus was on Visuals & Characters, and while they were definitely good. Those were the only things it had. But aside from two characters, other ones didn't felt like having much of an impact anyhow. It was hard to get attached to them. Like I said, good concept, visuals and Main Characters, it lacked story, dedication and seriousness. I am ... not the type who be just "AWW" with the visuals. The content to back it up should be there. This Anime did not have that. It's really an mid-average...

Kimi wa Kanata felt like the very definition of mediocre. In all honesty it's not terrible it just feels like I've watched it before, like It's a Kimi no na wa wannabe.

Story starts off typical high school slice of life/romance, there is an accident and that's when the drugs kick in. I won't give away any spoilers, but at times I felt like I was watching a poor Spirited Away knock-off.

What is sad is that it could have been so much more. An interesting theme was dealt with in a superficial way. The FL character development lacked real depth. And ngl, the Disney trope of ... 'a song can fix anything' was super-cringe... you know, just sing away all your fears... which only works if you're 5.

The animation was fair, with quiet a few pretty moments. Overall this anime simply felt forgettable.
