Made in Abyss: Retsujitsu no Ougonkyou

After surviving the brutal challenges of Idofront, Riko now possesses a White Whistle, allowing her to descend into the Abyss's sixth layer—The Capital of the Unreturned. Alongside Reg and Nanachi, Riko begins to explore the uncharted domain, where the ruins of the promised Golden City are located.

As the trio starts to adapt to the harsh environment, they soon encounter dangerous creatures and treacherous landscapes. Their expedition leads them to a village inhabited by strange beings known as "hollows." Despite the creeping sense of unease that welcomes them, the three venture onward to uncover the mysteries of the settlement and long-lost legacies of the forgotten adventurers who once descended into the horrors of the unexplored Abyss.

Here's my quick and dirty review of this season.

9.9/10.
Art, sound design, world building, you name it. This season is quite literally perfect in every way. There is nothing out there that exists like Made in Abyss, for better or worse. This season is no different. The way the certain society that appears in this season works, the reason they exist, and how they function as a whole, I can safely say I honestly do not thing anyone else has done anything even remotely like it before. It truly is super fascinating on how that all functions, it really is sosu.

The .1 gets deducted ... because although the anime tones down the writers barely disguised fetish, there still are several scenes in this season that absolutely do not need to be in this show. They are not plot relevant, they have literally no substance related to the story whatsoever, and exist purely to make some people uncomfortable. It is one of the things that makes this show so hard to recommend to anyone and is one of my biggest personal gripes.

Mixed Feelings

best and worst season until now at the same time. how? don't ask me, you should watch it yourself.

if I had put it in words however: its really different. the thematics really shifted. not always in a good way. the iconic dark atmosphere and story line of this show is (of course) there in the third season, but to me fails compared to what came before. it is still sad no doubt about it, well written too. It's just that it's sad only to BE sad. if that makes any sense. it didn't hit nearly as hard as season 2 or especially season 1. maybe ... that's just me getting used to it. there's also way more unnecessary dialogue I feel. prepare for that if you're not a fan of empty speech. ending is predictable and even kinda cliché.

ive been negative, but to be fair: this show is amazing

not only does it have crazy potential, it's also insanely enjoyable already. especially this season. this season was by far the most fun to watch. lowkey made me think about existence and life. it also has the best opening and ost until now.

im very curious how the writer will continue their adventure!

I don't understand how anyone can still support, not to mention glaze, this pedophile, guro, loli torture-porn, that somehow made it to mainstream anime and not stayed "in the abyss" of niche hentai manga, buried in the backwaters of the internet for the mentally deranged gooners. The first season was intriguing, the world-building, feelings of discovery, mystery and the fantasy aspect successfully set the bait, for me too. All of that made it easy to overlook the (at first more tame) sexual innuendos involving LITERAL CHILDREN, but the movies increasingly upped the deranged nasty shit that lingers in the sick perverts mind who calls himself ... the author. After, we arrive to Golden city arc, which made the direction pretty clear. I never had such a strong reaction of disgust and rejection of visual media, but granted, I never watched or wanted to watch guro, scat, rape and forced child pregnancy or a combination of those, and yet, Golden city arc made me experience those until I decided to just skip.
These characters are not teens, not fake-18 year olds or 500 year old lolis, but literal, pre-pubescent children, with a hint of furry. The author belongs to a mental institute or prison, and if some lovely art+music is enough to make it okay for you to enjoy child torture and rape, you belong to a similar place as the author, previously mentioned.
