Comedy is Subjective. And the short answer is simple: Of course it is, don’t be ridiculous. Except when it isn’t. Clear? No? Oh...I thought this was going so well.

Comedy is subjective because different people laugh at different things. That doesn’t mean it isn’t, nor does it mean there’s something wrong with our own sense of humor – it just means it’s not for us. Some people don’t find ‘Monty Python’ or ‘The Hitch-Hikers’ Guide to the Galaxy' funny. They are, of course, wrong because they disagree and that will never do. What’s that? I’m not the centre of the universe nor the arbiter of what ... is and isn’t funny? Really? Have you got written evidence of that? You have? Oh okay, they’re not wrong either...it’s really not that complicated. Funny isn’t universal, it’s very, very personal. So personal in fact, that when someone doesn’t find a show funny they start issuing death threats and demanding the people involved be erased from existence. The effort and aggression people put into not liking the people who wrote/created comedy they don’t like is staggering and frankly a bit odd.

On the other hand, I’d say comedy isn’t subjective when it fails to amuse the people it was specifically created for. Let's say if you like a particular stand-up comedian and, in the middle of a funny set, he tells a joke which repeatedly fails to elicit a laugh from every audience he plays to, then it’s not funny. Move on. If you create shows aimed at the same audience who loves said shows and they hate it...it’s not funny. You’ve failed. Kill yourself, now. Do it now. Except...maybe you haven’t failed? Maybe it’ll find a different audience who’ll love it? Or maybe it won’t. Maybe I’ve no idea what I’m talking about and should shut the f*** up? On balance, that seems increasingly likely.

The point is, just because you don’t find something funny, doesn’t mean it isn’t. Unless the person was specifically trying to make you laugh, in which case it probably isn’t. Or you haven’t got a sense of humour. Or the person misunderstood what kind of thing you find funny. Or something else. Or possibly you’ll find it funny next time you hear it because you either didn’t get it or were too busy worrying about other things that would make your time more valuable. And that you can take it as a boon or a bane to your "funny" bones.

And now, back to Last Dungeon. Those recommendations you see that are similar to this show, they're oh-so-wrong. Instead, I'll refer us back to Spring 2018 with a little unknown show named Last Period, based off a gacha mobage game. To the minority whom have watched Last Period before, the similarities between this and Last Dungeon aren't that hard to match up with the same exact humor style of underlying fun with the silliness and stupidity cranked up to 11. Sure, what Last Period has an edge over Last Dungeon with lies in its blatant KonoSuba-ish tactic of references and puns strewn in for the comedic effect that fits and works, but that's not to say that what the latter lacked doesn't make up for in the comedic space. Last Dungeon rather, uses common tropes (in this case, a character that's incrediously OP on the outside and weak on the inside) and gives it the comedic push to good effect. It doesn't need to be "on the ball" or "over the top" like similar brethren out there, but it only needs to do enough to make it stand out from the crowd with the fantasy adventure meta lore, balancing out plot for comedy that doesn't feel like it's both oversaturated and stretched to the limit (though it can be felt at times).

If anything, Last Dungeon excels at its vast range of characters who each serve a purpose, even if they're nothing special to scoff at, other than the impending dumbfounded-ness that lingers at each and everyone's unique traits for timely comedic hilarity. Starting with the MC Lloyd Belladonna, you might think that he's the classic case of the usual OP character at first glance (and you're definitely correct at that), but take a look at the village that he lives in, and everything you see is the exact opposite. It's so easy to misjudge and label Lloyd as the typical OP-for-nothing character, but yet even when his ambition is made clear to protect his own village by earning his powers through hard work, that is a sign of the above-average generic character development that is a refresher in the fantasy landscape. Other than his non-common sense thinking that shrouds over the many girls that flout around him, I'd say that they have their strengths and weaknesses (although the one definite strength lies in the "intentional" harem): there's a loli grandma in a childlike body; a witch that beneath the coat lies a princess figure that otherwise is known for karma-cussing over the loli grandma for being Lloyd's guardian each and everytime; the occasional yandere "Cursed Belt" princess who always simps over the MC for a "white knight" appearance; the mercenary with one-arm whose love for money is unparalleled; and the strong girl with the fascination of matching her powers to the MC. Plus, the many side characters that serve to help integrate Lloyd into the human world, from the obtuse generics of a magic academy to the villains with hidden motives, everything is there to provide a course for the MC to follow and tread through, pretty much like a typical JRPG (but without the RPG elements). IMO, I personally love when characters make a mockery of themselves, only to be hilariously lambasted of the perceiving hitting rock-bottom when reality hits hard. Of course, they do show concern for one another when situations go off-hitch.

At first I was skeptical of the "quantity over quality" of Liden Films helming 4 shows for the Winter season alone, the likelihood of production teams crashing midway to meet deadlines is a serious litigation point in the anime industry. But surprisingly enough, Last Dungeon managed to stay consistent with its decent production values, not to mention the easily simple, yet recognizable character designs and comedic facials for the relentless comedy hilarity; good ol' adventure-fantasy labelled visuals that are pleasing to the eye, and the above-average animation to back this show up. Same goes with the music, which also is the average so-so quality that isn't worth remembering, but fine at best. My only plus point is Luce Twinkle Wink☆'s ED, after the Gamers! vibe of a nice ED, the same vibes carry over to this show, and I instantly fell in love with it from the very beginning. What a song to end each episode with the 4 central girls (Marie, Selen, Riho and Phyllo) for that harem take.

Once again, in the same slew and veins of fantasy adventure shows, the simple case of "Comedy is Subjective" goes straight down to the viewer, and that's for you to decide whether this is worth or wasting your time. If yes, then great, come along for the ride, but if not, this isn't the type of show you're looking for. To say that I recommend this "good" show is just undermining the significance of Last Period and similar contemporaries which may have done the comedy gag job the same or better. Try other similar shows first before coming back to this one, and see how your tastes vary.

After seeing 4 chapters of this anime, I can say that he exceeded my expectations, a protagonist with abilities that surpass anyone who thinks he is weak, an unenthusiastive waifus conqueror. The supporting characters are just as entertaining, they know above all the potential of the protagonist and the kind. The mood of the anime is quite good compared to that of Konosuba or Priccone. The development of these first 4 chapters leaves us with the aspirations of the protagonist, we also find unexpected situations throughout this story, in short a great anime of the best of the season at the moment. Waiting for it ... to continue in the same way and a possible sequel.

Tatoeba is one of the hidden gems of the season, plain and simple. It’s nothing revolutionary or mind blowing, but it’s fun, and at the end of the day, that’s what anime is about.

What I like most about this series is the fact that it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Tatoeba knows it has an OP protag with a harem and all the generic fantasy tropes that we’ve come to expect from this genre, yet it pulls them off in a satisfying way. The effective use of comedy and banter throughout the series creates a really fun and light atmosphere that makes every episode ... seem like a 5 minute short. The characters have their own fun quirks and feel unique in the context of the story, and their relationships with the MC, are a blast to watch. The story isn’t much to write home about, but you won’t even notice because you’ll be too busy laughing your ass off every episode.

The technical aspects of the show aren’t anything special, there’s one notable fight towards the end of the show, but that’s about it. The art is a really cutesy modern style which I enjoyed, and the OST is pretty good as well. On a side note, remember when anime didn’t have to boast the highest technical stats for it to be enjoyable? Tatoeba feels like a return to that. Good old fashioned fun.

I can’t recommend this show enough for someone who’s looking for a meme in anime form. If you want something funny to watch and just turn your brain off to mindless entertainment, this is it. It’s been the highlight of my Mondays for the past 3 months and I will definitely be sad to see it go. Tatoeba gets 8 snake belts out of 10.

Tatoeba... is for me the hidden gem of this season. For a while now I have tried to find another show that is similar to Konosuba in both it's comedic style and my own enjoyment and I think I have found this series.

The makers of this series are quite knowledgeable about comedy and that is shown how much better the timing and spacing of the jokes is compared to most other comedic series and even the manga this anime is based on. As someone who has performed as a stand-up comedian for more than 5 years, I can truely admire the craft in this ... series. They have taken jokes that were in manga (f.e Lloyd killing nonchalantly giant insects or curses that were put on Maria/the eastside witch) and made it more visual, better timed and overall a stronger joke. I have high hopes for this series after 4 episodes and I predict that it won't disappoint me in both the comedy and it's enjoyment even after 8 more episodes.

Even though personally this series for me is 10 out of 10 series, I would more critically give it 9 out of 10 mainly because it's main flaw is the overall story of this series that is a bit too cliche and a bit too basic for me. But because my enjoyment when seeing this series is still quite high, I don't see it as a massive issue that this series has. It could be that after I have seen all of this series I might see this flaw as a more glaring issue or not an issue at all. Will see. Depending on that I will rate it differently after I have seen whole series.

Overall it is quite well crafted series with its cute and quite good art style and with fun characters that end up in all sorts of funny situation. I recommend this series whole heartely to everyone :)

First things first. This is a light-hearted comedy. Don't go in expecting deep storytelling and grand adventures. The tags on MAL don't do it justice.

The show is focused on what it wants to tell; the life of this village boy who goes to city. It doesn't pretend to be an epic adventure and it does not have to be. There are bad anime, average ones, decent ones and great ones. This is a decent anime. Nothing more and most definitely nothing less.

The story is about a boy from a village who goes to a city to fulfill his dream of becoming a soldier. He is ... the weakest of all the residents in his village. However, he turns out to be the strongest person the city has ever seen.

People don't watch slice of life comedy for groundbreaking character development and grand overarching plots. I will rate this for what it is; a slice-of-life comedy set in a fantasy setting. This is a show you would watch when you want to unwind and relax whilst enjoying a nice cup of tea.

I am seeing more and more people whining and moaning about fan service across this site. In what universe does this show have fan service? Am i the only one who is not getting aroused from every single anime in existence? The term "fan service" is overused and meaningless at this point. In fact, if you see someone complaining about it in any anime, odds are that there is barely any (if at all) and some puritan is trying to live an Amish anime life.

I'd rate this a 7.5, but MAL doesn't have that option so i will rate it a 10 instead.

P.S: I love the Amish. But i don't think they will even see this review anyway.

Tatoeba Last Dungeon is your not typical isekai/adventure type anime. Instead, it adds an interesting twist by also being a gag anime, but this also means that there is no real plot to it.

That's okay since it presents itself as slapstick comedy more than anything else. The jokes are pretty hilarious (in my opinion) but definitely not for everyone. If you are looking for a shonen style anime or an anime with depth, this ain't it.

The characters are very one dimensional but have ridiculous and hilarious backstories which is what drives the show forward. I love the art and animation. The background art is ... especially beautiful.

Give it a try. If you don't like it after the first episode then I would recommend dropping it.

Okay, first and foremost. This is not your typical adventurous, thrilling, story rich, etc isekai-like anime. In fact, it weighs more to the comedy aspect. This is not danmachi or such.

From the reviews, everyone can see that they just simply hate it for not meeting their liking requirements.

Okay, back to the series. This series brilliantly combines the typical fantasy story but with many eccentric comedy twists, so don't expect huge action happening. You can imagine konosuba? This one definitely not konosuba, but you can expect the comedy but much more eccentric.

It is kinda hard for comedy shows to be accepted ... by every audience, especially with some eccentric style like this where the common genre is rather more adventurous and the audience also demands something like that. What to expect?
1. Comedy twist in every episode. This series brilliantly could twist some thrilling events into comedy stuff.
2. Funny voice acting. So many reaction like "hogeeee" "fuweee" and many more according to the situation
3. OP main-protag which does not realize how strong he is so he acts like kinda innocent and pure little boy

What not to expect?
1. Story. Srsly, the story is in famine even if raw chicken from hell's chicken exist it will eat it in tears.

tl;dr: An anime that is good at using one narrow kind of comedy but doesn’t do well at anything beyond that.

This anime is centered around comedy involving the protagonist, Lloyd, being overpowered but not realizing this and considering himself weak due to his background and immense naivety. There’s some variety to this, in that he’s overpowered at quite a few things ranging from fighting monsters to cooking and cleaning. And there are lots of characters that react to all this in different ways. Still, at the end of the day, that’s what the core of the anime is. If you aren’t fond of such humor ... then you won’t like this anime. I enjoy this type of comedy and the execution here was pretty good, and thus enjoyed most of the anime.

Beyond that it does try to flesh out other characters at least somewhat. It’s not particularly good at anything serious, but when it’s just trying to make the cast amusing and fun it can work well, the best example of which is the hilarious yandere Selen who is surprisingly chill. Characters can also have pretty amusing dynamics, such as between the also overpowered airhead Alka bullying Marie, a witch that tries too hard trying to seem cooler than she actually is. However, it does try to give some characters depth in a serious manner at times and that generally fails pretty badly, though it isn’t focused on that much so it’s not too much of a problem.

Plot wise, the first two thirds of the anime don’t really have much of a plot at all. It’s just Lloyd and company dealing with a bunch of random situations. There are some hints here and there that they’re all connected to some overarching plot, but that doesn’t really take up much time so it doesn’t really matter. The last third of the anime however focuses much more on this overarching plotline, at the expense of not having as much comedy. The comedy it does have also starts going in different directions. I suppose the comedy was getting stale as there wasn’t enough variety to it so the writer thought it would be better to start changing things up, which is fair enough as the comedy was starting to get kind of repetitive and thus not as enjoyable. However, the overarching plotline is pretty terrible and new directions the comedy went in aren’t very good either, so in the end it still feels like the anime considerably declines towards the end.

The art and animation felt pretty lackluster. A lot of the time the half hearted art and animation actually work well with the comedy it’s going for so intentionally or not it works as a plus. However, the one thing that is pretty prominent all the time and bad to the point of distraction is how the characters often have weird proportions that look really off. The characters designs in general are decent enough I suppose, though nothing particularly special. The soundtrack is okay but not particularly worth mentioning. The OP and ED are also okay in terms of the song and visuals, but don’t really stand out at all.

You know, there are two shows with "Dungeon" in the title this season, and I very nearly stayed away from this show due to its stupidly long title and terrible-sounding premise. I never liked the idea of having an overpowered MC be the core of an entire series and I generally dislike harems in the first place. Thankfully, Tatoeba Dungeon is a standout comedy on all fronts and a fun experience all around.

Let's get this out of the way first, yes, the premise of Lloyd being ridiculously overpowered yet unaware is unfunny and the joke is incredibly stale and repetitive. However, unlike most other comedies ... (and non-comedies) with a similar premise, the show has other jokes as well. My word, expecting a comedy show to have more than one joke, but man, do we live in an age where even basic competency needs to be praised. Anyway rants aside, the show is genuinely very funny a majority of the time, and even the Lloyd being overpowered does have a satisfying payoff that comes too late, but it's more than can be said when compared to most other shows, like the other "Dungeon" anime. If there is any downside, it's that some of the more serious moments do not have a place in the show and can dampen the mood a little, but otherwise it's still a solid comedy throughout.

The cast of characters is incredibly strong although it may not seem so at first. Virtually everyone is likable from the low self esteem Lloyd (who may actually be pretending all this while), to the short-tempered butt monkey Marie, to the perverted lolibabaa, to even a goddamned belt, everyone brings their A game to this show and it is truly a sight to behold. When a belt has more character than most other MCs of other comedies, you know you're in for a real treat. But the MVP, the real star of the show is the yandere belt-hime, Selen. My God does she steal every scene she is in with her crazed obsession over Lloyd reminding me of Urara from Sabagebu. It's a celebration whenever she appears. Even the villains, though they may appear out of place in an otherwise overly cheerful lighthearted show, do turn out to fit the setting more than you'd think.

Like I said earlier, one of Tatoeba Dungeon's strengths is that it has proper payoffs to its comedic scenes. For instance, a scene where Selen threatens to firebomb a place in order to spend more time with Lloyd may seem like a throwaway gag at first, but later on has actual plot-importance and a proper send-off to the joke established, forming an elegant payoff in the end.

Some of these may sound like faint praise but it's just so nice to see a fantasy-based comedy be actually funny. I was totally fearing a Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear or Average Abilities situation at first, but man, does it pay to be wrong at times.

This anime fits right into my kind of show. It has a super-strong main character along with all the females falling for him.

The storyline isn't the best, but they make up for that with really enjoyable scenes. Although, I hope there will be a bigger plot to follow in the coming episodes.

The main character is portrayed as super strong and unique, as all the females love his personality. However, I wished that he would beat his opponents more easily (as in the arm wrestle), as the whole idea of the story is having an overpowered character.

Where can I find more like this?!

Let's address the largest flaw, the story. The premise is decent and the premise is held up throughout the show. This is good, but all the surrounding narrative to the premise is a bit all over the place. The first two episodes are paced well, but the third and fourth are a mess. Between rushing the plot along and not explaining the plot nearly at all, the whole thing is disorientating. Then for the remainder of the show we have the average anime pacing one might expect. Overall the third and fourth episode pull down the show from what would have been a 5 or ... 6. 4/10

The next flaw is the characters, but to a much lesser extent. The MC is rather one dimensional, but that's kind of the premise of the show. The harem is kind of annoying as a whole, but alright individually. I don't mind any of them on their own, but together it's like 1000 seagulls all cawing at once. That's the real down fall of the characters. So 6/10

Sound was a fairly strong point for the show, the ost was pleasant and the voice acting decent. However, some of the voice acting was a tad annoying , but I got used to it as the show went on. To be clear I watched the dub, so my experience may not be reflective of yours's if you watch the sub. To comment a little more on the ost: It was decent, a little plain, but fitting. It added to scenes when it should have, and faded into the background at other points. Overall the sound was good 7/10

The art was anywhere from average to surprisingly good. Shows with average animation that don't focus on action like this one usually have very poorly animated action scenes. However, in this case I was pleasantly surprised to see that his wasn't the case here. It was actually pretty good. Moving away from the quality of the animation, the art style was pleasant and fitting. The drawing style was easy going, and the color vibrant. Overall I liked it especially for a more chill comedy anime like this. 8/10

I enjoyed this anime. It's isn't super deep, but it's a nice chill little comedy. The world building is light and there are no feels, so if you were looking for a fantasy and/or drama this ain't it chief. If you want what is essentially a slice of life comedy, this might be a good bet. I enjoyed a lot of it, but I had to kind of tune out the plot of the third and fourth episodes to get the most out of it. 7/10

Overall this was like a 6.5 out of 10, I'm rounding up for multiple reasons. One is because all the 6.35/10 is a little low, and the reviews a little too critical. Too often people don't like an anime so they give it a review that is representative of that. However, I think that if reviews were more objective very few anime deserve less than a 5/10. To give something a 2/10 in my opinion is like saying it was barely watchable, not that you just didn't like it. If you didn't really like it, but thought objectively it was alright then a 5 or 6 would be much more fitting. I thought objectively this anime is like a 6, but I also enjoyed it so 7/10.

Review of tatoeba last dungeon anime episode 12:

Its now the final episode, episode 12, where its a good anime for this season.. gosh, selene really gave me a good laugh.. lol.. chanting the "lloyd sutra".. or how magnificent lloyd is to her.. in order to get vritra out of the sealed ball.. good thing that the dwarf had absolutely zero fighting skills, or else vritra couldnt get out.. plus the other 2 villains arent really fighting hard, since the other villains were only interested in the development of a replacement for the boring world.. well, all in all, the anime was very good as ... it has its own ups and down, mostly laughs with lloyd around.. lol.. anyways, i rate the anime a 4.5 out of 5, 4.5 for both story and art.. 🙂

I don’t understand all these other reviews whining and complaining that the mc is OP and he’s oblivious to it. Bro, the whole time in the anime they remind you that he’s the weakest in his own village, but the village is a legendary place found right outside the Last Dungeon, where monsters are insanely strong. It even says it in the title!! He’s only OP because everyone else outside of the village is weak in comparison. I think it’s hilarious how they keep finding ways to make it where mc finds an excuse to believe he’s not all that strong, I mean, that’s been ... his whole life, hell, there was a scene where he said a young girl several years younger than him in his village broke his damn arm by light slapping it. *SHE’S* OP in the case. Anyways, it’s a light hearted anime, nothing to take seriously, but enjoyable nonetheless, don’t pay attention to the whiners.

This is a comedy/parody. Literally nothing in this show is to be taken seriously.

This results in a subpar story, it's more about the interactions the characters have with each other.

There is the MC, who's superstrong but doesn't know - because he's the weakest of his village.

He slowly builds a harem (that he's unaware of because of his low self esteem) and has some adventures.

Every personality trait in this show is amped up to eleven, so yeah he is your dense harem protagonist - but he is not bland. His densenes is 12/10 and it is meant to be a JOKE. Because how could he not ... get the redicioulously obvious flirting the other girls do?


Regarding the girls:

- Actually 1000 years old Loli with super powerful magic who acts like a child and perverted MILF at the same time

- lazy and incompetent witch

- Mercenary girl who's the only sane person in the room most of the time, but blinded by greed for money

- super stoic Amazon girl

- Yandere Stalker girl


And yes, every one of these characters is amped up to 11, because they are parodies.

It is quite enjoyable, because it's mostly cute slapstick comedy and genre subversion. Nothing really goes as expected. It's not as good as One Punch man, but stil pretty funny.

overall I give this a 7/10 - one of the sleepers in a very packed season, that most likely will get overlooked.

All I really wanted to say, that in the entirety of this 4 episode we saw so far is the general story arc of your average 12 episode anime.

Character introductions, secrets, reveal and solve of said secrets, defeating the BBEG, giving retribution to the misguided lackey AND, everybody got what they wanted.

They closed the 4th episode like they usually close a 12th episode. If we stop here, I can say, that it was a whole big cheese move of the studio.
(Havent red the manga so idk if it was progressing this fast or not)

But adressing what proceeded me....it's pretty average anime, with a lower ... budget, but this budget is used very creatively.
If I really have to highliht something I really disliked so far, is the presonality of the belt princess and the fact that there is way too much sidekicks in this story. I guess it wanted bto be something of a One punch man but in fantasy but the writer has clearly no experience in handling this much yet. Even though I'm still curious so I going to keep watching

This is a parody of Fantasy/Adventure and Harem Anime. That is all this is.

It is not a Fantasy/Adventure Anime. The magic system only exists to make the joke of how casually the greatest ancient magic is used for mundane purposes. And the villains are parodies of standard Fantasy villains, poking fun at their cartoonish lust for power as sole driving force.

It is not a Harem Anime. Yes all the girls are into the Lloyd for no reason, and all the standard Archetypes are present. But not of them are characterized in a way for you to get attached to them, much less "into" them. They ... are joke characters to make fun of what they represent.

The clearest proof of this not being a Harem Anime is that there is no classic Fan Service scenes of the female characters. Instead, there are fan service scenes of the male MC when a girl walks in on him while he is naked and he holds a towel to his chest in an embarrassed fashion. It is a reversal of harem tropes for comedic effect.

This is not a Fantasy/Adventure Anime nor a Harem Anime. It is a parody of those genres. That is all it is trying to be. And it's a pretty funny parody as well.

For future readers, this was written at the point where only the first 10 episodes were available, thus us any major changes to my perception that may happen in the final 2 episodes would be unaccounted for.

If I had to give a very brief statement of what I felt about this series, I would say that it's one that seems to have a surprisingly amount of thought put into its world and story, but the main aspect that holds it back is the fact that it tries way too hard to be a comedy.

One aspect where this point hurts the series the most comes in ... its characters. The Lloyd you meet in episode 1 is fundamentally the same throughout, being the same "overpowered hero who doesn't realize he's really overpowered" character without much change throughout the series. And this principle can be applied to pretty much every character in the series. Sure, they'll get some revelation, like "My friends are the reason I can be strong now", but it feels more like empty platitudes to fill a quota since these realizations don't actually change how the character acts or thinks later on. I reason this to being caused by the show being a comedy as the show relies so heavily on using the same gags throughout. Every episode you'll see Lloyd doing this outrageous thing with an innocent smile, while everyone else comically overreacts. Over and over. As such, if you try to change Lloyd from that initial "unaware overpowered hero" mold in any way, the joke falls flat. The sad part is that in the end, the payoff for killing any chance for character depth isn't really worth it either, since you can already see the punchline coming a mile away.
It's especially disappointing, because one thing I will give this series credit for is that it avoid the trappings of many "overpowered hero with a harem" series by having it so that not every character interaction is centered exclusively around the main character. For example, Alka, the chief of Lloyd's village, is also Marie's mentor. Meanwhile we learn that Lloyd's employer was also Marie's former bodyguard. While perhaps this may be considered sitcom levels of trite, this helps forms a network of character relations rather than lines radiating from the main character, and gives the impression that even if Lloyd is overpowered, the world doesn't quite revolve around him, which it can sometimes feel like with other series' overpowered protags.

Second point to where I think being a comedy hurts the series is in its tone. At points you will see the series *try* to give some gravity to its conflicts. Ie. A character just seemingly gets murdered right in front of the main cast. The problem is that the series then negates all of this by switching back to gag comedy not even 3 seconds after, not giving any time to let any of its supposedly dramatic moments sink in and slapping the audience's face with the biggest mood whiplash imaginable. While having a mix of both has worked before, and can get the viewer deeply invested in the series' characters (ie. Golden Kamuy), in this case it has just the opposite effect.

As for positives, one thing I was pleasantly surprised by was how well-thought through the plot and events in the story seem to be at points. For example, we get lore dropped about an Selen's belts through a gag of all things, which episodes later ends up actually being relevant to the plot. One character is written off the show after the first arc. When the main cast visits the location where that character was supposedly sent to in order to advance the plot, we see him once again, not because he's necessary to move the plot forward, but because it makes sense to see him there. Reiterating my previous point, it really helps to make the world feel like an actual living, breathing world, which is surprising given how most shows of this sort only have a relation of "these events form last week feed into this week's" without giving time to drop hints or pieces of lore that aren't immediately useful.

Last point about the artstyle, it's nothing to blow you socks off. No amazing Sakuga, but no large dips either. I will say though one gag the animation really hits home with is "items being tossed into the stratosphere", mainly in the level of detail in tracking the object's trajectory.

But in short, don't watch this if you're expecting a deeply emotional character piece. What you probably expected on the cover is exactly what you're gonna get, just some simple but serviceable gags from pretty generic character archetypes. While the worldbuilding probably has a bit more to it than other powertrip fantasy stories, it doesn't really come up to much in the end due to being so centered on comedy. Probably an enjoyable enough weekend watch or binge over a lazy day, but definitely not something worth going out of your way for.

Makes me go haha so it fulfils its purpose as a comedy anime. People may critique the story as not being on par with Berserk, AOT, Vinland Saga but most comedies don't. This anime is more of a weekly treat and its purpose is to make you smile and giggle rather than telling you a perfectly sculptured story.

Yes, the unique idea of the main character being ignorant to his strength may get old after a season or two but each time an event occurs that displays this trope it's distinctive and anyway there's more laughs and giggles to be found in this show without ... fishing for this theme each episode, for example, his romantic innocence and his blind eye to the harem he is already caught up in.

The basic premise of this show is pretty cute: what if an overpowered protagonist didn't realize he was overpowered?

It has a lot of the humor (and last-minute saves) of One Punch Man, along with the density of the MC in a harem setting, yet oddly enough the latter works toward the enjoyment rather than against it as is so often the case.

Of course, my entire score is based purely on the gayness of the main character, and in this area I have to give a shining 10/10. The density of the MC is as legendary as his power- he is somehow capable of shrugging ... off multiple explicit marriage proposals from women alongside virtually every female he encounters wanting to have his babies. I cannot recommend this highly enough.
