Synopsis

The game takes place in a world created by beings known as "Story Tellers." At birth, all inhabitants of this world are bestowed with a "book of fate" where all their lives are written in advance. However, rogue Story Tellers known as Chaos Tellers are writing bad events into people's books without them knowing. It is up to the holders of blank books of fate to seek out the Chaos Tellers and restore the world.

Background

Grimms Notes originally hit iOS and Android in Japan back in January of 2016, and has since gone on to be downloaded over 15 million times. The RPG features characters like Alice, Little Red Riding Hood, and others from classic fairy tales, all of whom have to face the threat of "Chaos Tellers" that are writing bad events in the stories and twisting fate in the process.

In a typical fashion rehashed RPG, you'd have the characters anointed for their roles in the overall game system and mechanics, and are set out to exterminate the forces of evil, just as you'd expect. But to green light such game-turned-anime adaptation, of which this formula has been ongoing for the past 2 decades (thanks to the Fate Nasuverse which thankfully has separate paths of play that all started from there), it's no wonder that it's now understandable that the staffs from these respective games have always wanted to pitch these famous games turned into anime, and I don't blame these people. Okay I wont say much here, only giving a bit perspective as the player of the game.

Overall, it IS an absolute disgusting, atrocious work, as expected from most mobile game adaptation. The original version of the game is respected by its fanbase for its gorgeus art, deep-twisting storyline and character development, also adopting a classical celtic-like orchestral opening music and background theme instead of the generic pop genre. It offers the vibe like seeing a theatrical play. But almost none of those quality is found here, or should I say none at all? Never mind the satisfaction it gives from watching.

I'll start this off by saying that I'm only still watching this so I can lower my "Completed" mean score. Jokes aside, anime based off of games are almost always trash. Even when you give a studio highly-acclaimed games, like the 93/100 on Metacritic Persona 5, or the 10/10 on Steam Danganronpa, anime studios always seem to screw them up. Clearly, anyone who recognizes this trend should be wary of the influx of crappy, low-rated mobile game-based anime that are pumped out all the time for the simple purpose of promoting the game or maybe even obtaining some sort of profit.

One might say that anime read more
