Well.. I'm hugely disappointed. I really enjoyed the first series. The story was excellent, animation style was on point, and it wasn't trying to be anyone else. But this... this is.. a bastardized Naruto+KissxSis+FMA+Ironman+Steampunk cluster f***. ALL IN JUST 1 EP! Like I said earlier, the first series knew what it was. It knew what it wanted, and how to get there. The main heroine is immediately identifiable as a dere archtype. Why any dere should be in Basilisk, YOU GOT ME!? By the ending credits on the first episode I had trouble picking my jaw up in amazement (not positive) of the transformation from
Kouga, to this. The sheer fact that instead of solidifying the base of the story for it to stand on and progress on why things are the way they are right now, they instead use over 7 different references from the first series to support.. you guessed it, unjustifiable nothing! But hey you might relate in some understanding because they mention Kouga/Iga tension and then immediately sweep it under the rug so they can feed you a bunch of random info in the first episode so you they can rush a story you won't feel attached to.
Yes yes, I understand I'm hating right now and that's ok to be honest. Because not every anime is for every person. Some people may see this and really enjoy it. That's the only reason I gave it stars 5 and the art/sound are good quality.. It's not horrible, but I don't think it's good. For those that do like it, good on ya and go have a blast. But I can't justify watching past the first 2 episodes.
I dropped this anime because, in a large part, it felt very disappointing. Whenever you're continuing off of a previous work it will start off with comparisons to the old stuff. And this one falls short very quickly. I was turned off by the animation quality to start, and then the show didn't deliver on a particular tone.
Taste: This show tasted pretty bad... Normally I always advise to give any anime a three episode grace period to get things going. if you don't know what's up by number three, or if you just can't get into it, then give it a drop. This one
just had too many turn offs for me. A big one was trying to show off everyone's ability right away. You have a number of characters, we don't need to know what everyone can do by episode two. It's basically defining everyone by that power, rather than who they are. So for Taste I give it my 2 out of 10
Presentation: I had mentioned the poor animation quality before. It has too many shot of a single picture to with nothing happening to describe an event. Which is cheap. Then we have the overall look of the characters, while not bad, some just felt really poor. It did not make my eyes or ears happy. 1.5 out of 5
Originality: I didn't go far enough into the show to really get a big picture. So I can't give a great call on this one. I'm leaving it with a N/A
in the end I dropped this show. There are lots of other better options around. We have a total of 3.5 out of 15
