Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! 2: Kono Subarashii Geijutsu ni Shukufuku wo!

Amazes me that people rate this show poorly, the show isn't supposed to be some god tier story like FMA brotherhood or some god tier plot and pacing like Death note. Its supposed to silly, relaxed, and comedic. You watch this show and its OVAs for the characters and the humor, this show is top tier and the only people who can find fault with it are pretentious and literally just want to hate on this show.

Its like hanging out with your friends without a worry in the world, thats how I describe this show, and thats why I love this show.

Kazuma getting a fangirl...it can't be possible!

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! 2 OVA is an isolated episode about well Kazuma showboating to a newbie adventurer by the name of Ran and the dysfunctional main party goes adventuring due to this with their unusual quirks and hijinks.

By all means this OVA has the typical hilarity and comedic edge as the 2nd season of Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!, that hasn't changed in this OVA neither is Kazuma's karmic luck and how even by LA even stating LA's first statement to this review that something is up. But even by the structure of this OVA ... with each quest the main party takes on having more to an increasingly weirder "threat" as well as information pertaining to these quests being linked in some way. Besides that, this OVA does give us something in terms of plot that ONLY refers back to a certain incident in the first season but LA won't obviously spoil on that on.

In terms of animation, the animation done once again by Studio DEEN is done by the typical KonoSuba's enforced low quality animation but the animation shines in terms of focus on detail in some animation to it's fluidity in some scenes. Nonetheless Studio DEEN's specialized take on their animation on KonoSuba is expected quality as per usual.

In terms of voice acting, well it's top notch once again especially from Jun Fukushima's adlibbing-esque and reactionary talents that makes this OVA bearable, heck Aqua is also bearable due to her being a catalyst to Jun and two words for Sora Amamiya made this OVA *ahem* "GOD requiem..." Overall, the voice acting is great and to be expected from these voice actors playing their roles for 2 seasons.

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! 2 OVA is a nice isolated OVA with a nice reference back to the first season and just typical hijinks antics from the dysfunctional party to a nice karmic payoff as the ending.

Another hilarious outing from the crew of Konosuba. In this, Kazuma and the gang are recruited to go and handle some golems at a ruin that are scaring the local villagers. The hilarious angle of this OVA is why they end up going to deal with the golems, but I won't say anything so as to spoil it. If you're a fan of Konosuba, you already know what to expect here. Ecchi, fan service, S, explosions and absolutely NO morals. If you're not a fan of Konosuba, you should not watch this and instead go start season 1 so you ... can become a fan of it. It's the funniest Isekai anime ever made. Seriously.

First thing first. If u r in search of some high action and/or good story line anime, then this isnt for u. Its for those who want to enjoy watching. U need to watch the season 1 and 2 before u start watching this in order to understand the super one line joke.(God those jokes r making me laugh even now). This series is made for pure enjoyment. I am repeating it again, its for pure enjoyment not any story shit or emotional strike. It will make u laugh every every second. For the rest just watch it and be amazed. HAVE FUN !!!!

Warning possible Spoilers

Not really sure what to say about this OVA other than it felt like some kind of origin story for the giant killing machine that we saw in the first season, hey at least we got to see the gang again.

The story of this OVA is that Kazuma and the gang have to investigate an area of ruins which they discover to be the origin of the person who created the giant killing machine from S1.
Now this OVA kinda lackluster compared to other Konosuba episodes even the OVA for season 1 was much better than this, it just felt toned down I mean ... the characters were still fun and there were some funny moments, but I was expecting something more other than a life story about the person who made a giant killing machine although he did create a giant mecha robot that did fondle with Darkness' breasts and a robotic masochist anime girl that was something Kazuma wasn't expecting plus that he was being tricked into thinking he had a fan who was really just being paid to cheer him up which didn't work out so well for them, but there really wasn't anything special with this OVA.

The characters were still the usual people they are just a ragtag bunch of misfits yet there wasn't really much misfitting this episode and Aqua actually didn't cause any mayhem for once so surprisingly they got the job done.......mostly a few explosions did cause a few problems, so other than that there really wasn't much new with the characters.

The artstyle was pretty much the same as usual, but there were some cool stuff like a giant mecha robot which after the battle did show Aqua's unique skill to build a robot made out of milk cartons which was surprising and the robotic anime girls looked pretty funny too although the masochist one is definitely one you wouldn't want to bump into.

The comedy was still good, but lacking like something was holding back the developers or they just couldn't think of something amazing like we've seen in the past couple of seasons, but at least we got to see Megumin's cat scratch the hell out of Aqua.

Overall this was ok for an OVA even though it was lacking compared to the previous stuff the series has offered to us, hopefully whenever a season 3 is made they'll improve this and give us another fantastic season of seeing our new favourite misfits messing up once more.

Al hope seemed lost when Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! 2 came to a close. There would be no more EXPLOSIONS or 'Kazuma desu' for us to enjoy. But then, as if it were a gift from Aqua-sama herself, Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo 2! OVA (which will now be referred to as simply 'Konosuba') graced us with its presence. Did it live up to the expectations? I mean, of coruse it did. It's Konosuba, what do you expect?

- SPOILERS AHEAD (Obviously) -

Story: 8
(I might as well include a summary since there isn't currently a summary on the OVA's page).
Following the events of ... the second season, Kazuma and his ragtag group of allies are living the "high life" after defeating 3 of the Demon King's generals. The episode begins with Kazuma at a bar contemplating questioning his decision to order Whiskey even though he can't handle such drinks. Then, a newbie adventurer named 'Ram' confronts him and tells him how much she looks up to him as an adventurer. Seeing this as a chance to have a girl like him, he immediately gives his Whiskey to Ram as she will she will have to be able to drink these kind of drinks in order to be an adventurer like him. Following that event, Luna (the manager of the guild) orders Kazuma to have him and his guild travel to the ruins of an ancient castle and slay the golems that reside there.

The rest of the episode shows Kazuma, Aqua, Megumin, and Darkness confronting the golem and defeating it (with Megumin now wanting one as a 'pet'). Later, Kazuma continues to tell Ram about his adventure and poking fun at Mitsurugi Kyouya (the chosen one of the world and the one who wields an ancient sword) who he had previously "defeated" in Season 1. Kazuma and the gang are then ordered to investigate the ruins further. They find the diary of the man who had previously lived there (and happened to be reincarnated from Japan like Kazuma). The man appeared to have created many unsuccessful attempts at robots who would serve him (in more ways than one). Following the destruction of the ruins, Kazuma returns to the guild only to find that Ram was being paid by Luna to look up to him which would motivate him to do his job in return.

While this story isn't quite as outlandish as some of the other plots we've seen from Konosuba, it certainly gets the job done. In addition, we even see some more insight to some characters, notably Kazuma and even Luna who would usually only make minor appearances throughout the series (I'll go more in depth in the 'Characters' section). Whenever we see Kazuma and the gang at the ruins, we see nothing but humor which is what Konosuba does best. The most significant, if not surprising aspect of this OVA, is the backstory we get. We learn the backstory of the man who had created the 'Destroyer' (which was the enemy of the Season 1 finale), which was also the man who was reincarnated into this world and the one who created these robots. This serves as exceptional world building, and when paired from what backstory we got from Season 1 of the man, we get a complete backstory as a result. However, the choice to make this OVA feature backstory when the possibility of a Season 3 is still up in the air seems questionable. Though it could also be seen as a way to tie up loose ends. Overall, the story does a good enough job to keep us entertain and serves as a way for multiple gags and innovative jokes to be used.

Art: 9
Konosuba has always been a series where people debate on whether the animation is good. Some see it as lazy, while others see it as a breath of fresh air. However, there is no doubt that the transition of animation between Seasons 1 and 2 were minimal, but noticeable. Luckily, this OVA serves as a good middle ground between the two. We get the hilarious expressions that we've (mostly) come to love from Season 2, and the polish from Season 1. Some highlights include the first scene with Kazuma at the bar, the battle with the giant robot, and the final scene with Kazuma's hilarious expression. It's clear that the animators had more time to work on this as it manages to surpass the majority of previous episodes and stand alongside the great animation of the Season 2 finale.

Sound: 8
It's Konosuba. The soundtrack is great as it is. We see a bit of new music in this episode, but it primarily contains tracks we've already heard. If it's not broke, don't fix it.

Character: 9
Believe it or not, for not only a Konosuba episode, but a standalone OVA, it does a great job of character development for nearly all of the characters, even if it is subtle in some cases.

First of all, there is Kazuma. Since the end of Season 2, him and his allies have grown a reputation of being a group of misfit oddballs that somehow get the job done when it matters. We see Kazuma being aware of this in the first bar scene when people mention his reputation with drinking. However, he still retains his overconfidence when talking to Ram. In addition, Kazuma's trait of being sly is featured heavily in this episode. He supposedly leaves Ram to believe that he is a great adventurer who can defeat a Golem with no difficulties whatsoever and convinces Megumin to join him and fight the Golem. Nevertheless, Kazuma remains to be the Kazuma we all know and love. The final scene displays his reputation among adventurers so well that we feel sympathetic for him. Though he isn't praised constantly for being the hero that will save the world, people rely on him and his allies to get the job done in whatever way possible. When he sees what Ram and Luna have been doing behind his back, we truly feel sorry for him as he practically cries due to being treated as somebody who's only purpose is to defeat enemies rather than being seen as a decent person.

That leads to Luna who though doesn't get as much screentime as any other typical side character, still gets a enough development to be praise worthy. Her notable scene is also the final scene in which she reveals that she had paid Ram to motivate Kazuma to get some work done. When she notices that Kazuma had heard their conversation, it is clear that she doesn't see Kazuma as a complete idiot when it comes to his personality, but she can't quite describe what makes him something that isn't that. Nevertheless, she along with Ram are the driving forces of the plot which is a nice change of pace considering that they would usually only adventure if it benefited themselves.

Honorable mentions go to Darkness who gets one brief moment of character development near the end. She states that once Kazuma is let down by Ram and her true motive, that her, Megumin, and Aqua should be nice to him. However, in true Konosuba fashion, all three of them laugh at him behind his backs when they see what unfolds between him, Ram, and Luna.

Enjoyment: 10
It's Konosuba. That means explosions, hilarious expressions, multiple gags (both new and old), and even a sympathetic scene. It doesn't stray from the Konosuba formula, but that doesn't make it bad. It's funny. For an anime like Konosuba, that is the selling point. As such, it delivers.

Overall: 8
In short, Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! 2 OVA is the definition of a 'solid' episode of Konosuba. It has laughs from beginning to end and brings out the best of our favorite characters. It even throws in some backstory and character development. If you've watched and enjoyed Konosuba, then you'd love this.

Bonus - Best Quote
Though I'd normally be reviewing a series, I'll still give the OVA the bonus treatment. My favorite quote of the episode was:

"Kazuma-san, you're kind of a good guy!"

Though the "Steal!" at the end was a close second...

I really like the world building we get from this OVA. The fact that pretty much all the crazy advanced magic in the universe is the result of another shut-in NEET like Kazuma. It has a lot of implications for the story going forward, but mostly it's just hilarious. And the whole sex robot thing, brilliant. The little golem hunting quest that our main cast gets to go on is also fun, showing us yet another botched mission by the worst adventuring party ever. Honestly as a group they could make anything fun to watch, because of the unique ways they'd all find to screw ... it up.

So, really funny stuff, very on brand for KonoSuba, if you're a fan of the series you'll likely very much enjoy this. 8/10

The story is simple enough and focus' mostly on Kazuma. It creates some comedic moments, but seems to also focus on the tragedy that is our protagonists' story. I end up feeling bad for Kazuma more ... than I feel happy from laughing.

I found the art to be enjoyable and better than the average anime from the late 2010s. I also found the sound to be enjoyable as well. The music was good and never distracting and the OP was nice to hear. The acting (English) was spot on and lent a lot to the comedy portrayed.

The character development and situational humor is subpar compared to the rest of the series.

Konosuba Art is worth it if you're going to watch the movie directly after, as I think it makes the whole situation a bit funnier, but otherwise, it's nothing more than an OVA that you could easily glance over.
