Good choice. Ranma was a pain getting through. I watched the first 90 episodes in a week and watched the remaining 71 in the span of 3 months. Then I wrote a big, flopping review of it all. That show was apart of my life for a while, so when I was done, I was a little upset. It was like saying goodbye to a stupid friend.

Thanks mate

Highly recommend Maison Ikkoku. A very wholesome romance story that has a proper conclusion. Ranma on the other hand is........interesting. It has a roller-coaster of quality and I wouldn't recommend watching it, unless you're very dedicated to Takahashi's work. I'm fascinated by it, but I wouldn't watch Ranma again. Love the OVA's, though.

And thank you for accepting my FR. You seem pretty cool. :)

> Remember My Love started off talking about how a red string is connect to your soul mate or one true love. Near the end of the movie, Lum pulls on her string and is ecstatic to find that it leads to Ataru. Ataru hides his hand behind his back and Lum demands to see it. After a bit of refusing, his hand is revealed to have many strings attached to it, running in different directions. Don't get me wrong, I found it somewhat funny but also disappointing. Since the portion took place in a fantastical world, I thought they could've given us some honest Lum and Ataru time, since nothing ultimately mattered.

Yep, that's exactly what I thought happened. My memory was still fuzzy and I knew that somehow. To be honest, I never did finish UY. I watched a little over 60 episodes and wanted to go on a movie marathon. I'm sure I'll finish the series eventually, but after watching all of Ranma and watching those movies back to back to back, Takahashi's writing has just worn me down. I really like UY, but it's moments like this, where it's played off as a joke, but I don't find it all that funny. The relationship never makes progress and that's a running theme in MANY Takahashi works. With a few exceptions like Maison Ikkoku and One Pound Gospel.

Ataru being obsessed with other women was never all that funny to me. I also want the satisfaction of Ataru and Lum being together, but he always ruins it. He realizes how much he needs Lum in his life, he apologizes, then cheats on her again next week. I talk about it in one of my reviews.

> I solely mean mismatched in that we're lulled into simplicity by the series only to be faced with movie #2, which requires more analysis that we've been presented with so far. Having had it stew for a while, I agree that movie 2 has it's merits and I certainly think it belongs as part of the series, it's just not what I expected the first time I watched it. I just wasn't in the right mindset to fully enjoy the movie the first watch through, because I wasn't expecting to think much beyond the surface of what was being portrayed. I respect it more now, but it still remains one of my least favorites of the series.

I guess I understand what you're trying to say. During the initial watch, #2 comes off as more complex compared to everything else that's come before in the series. I agree, but I don't think this bothers me all that much. That's fine if it's one of your least favorites. Some people would see that as fighting words lol.

> You are correct in saying that people love the director, Mamoru Oshii more than the film itself. Most conversations I get into about the movie generally include the phrase "Mamoru Oshii is a genius" or something of that nature at some point during the conversation. While that maybe true, even genius' have their duds. Again, not saying that movie 2 is bad, just not my favorite of the series.

Completely agree with you there. This movie gets a lot of unnecessary attention because of who directed it.

The red string thing is a bit fuzzy. You might have to remind me of what that was again. A chunk of that movie does take place in a fictional world, I believe so. Is it the real life, is it just fantasy, maybe caught in a landslide, no escape from reality.

I found the entire movie to be long and dragging. The entertainment value plays a part when ranking those films and the plotline of Remember My Love, I just think, is not that strong. For a moment, when Ataru decided to volunteer for the magic trick and got shot, I thought the movie was going to be very dramatic at that point and I was in shock. But nope. He was turned into a pink hippo and found that pretty underwhelming. I don't know, just wasn't a huge fan.

I'm glad we can agree with movie #5 being the best. I think it concludes the series in a great way and wraps it all up in a nice little bow. And it's refreshing seeing someone rank movie #2 that low. I think it's a tad overrated, but I still think it's a solid film with good directing and cinematography. It has some merit. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by mismatched. Urusei Yatsura is pretty simple, I agree. And the second film is a little more complicated compared to what you usually get from the series, but I don't see the real issue. I feel like most people love that movie because of who directed it and not the movie itself. I don't think everything directed by Mamoru Oshii is amazing. Gosenzo-sama is pretty boring.

What are your favorite UY movies in order?
Neimaj Aug 19, 2021 2:48 PM
I re-read your review for the sixth movie, and now that it's been a few weeks since I last saw the movie, I might have to agree with you. Except for the artwork. More specifically, the character designs. I think they look great, however the animation is a tad inconsistent. In all honesty, I just didn't want to put this below Remember My Love. I found the third movie to be so boring and uninspired, it's also a little more ugly compared to the other movies. At least I had fun watching Always My Darling. The plotline, like I mentioned in my review, feels too familiar, but I can ignore this because there's some entertainment value in this film. Not sure why this is considered the worst film in the UY community.

That's great, I have a few things to say about those movies. My memory for each one is a bit fuzzy, but I don't think #6 is the worst one. Funny thing, I came onto MAL real quickly to update my list and I'm about to go into a meeting in 15 minutes. Then I'll be able to chat with you. Brb.

Hi ho (^_^)/. I found your profile after reading your review for the 6th Urusei Yatsura movie. A few weeks ago I made a challenge for myself to watch and review all of the films, and that's how I stumbled upon your review. I'm not the biggest Urusei Yatsura fan, but I am drawn to Rumiko Takahashi's work. I'd like to chat about those films with you, if that's okay? And maybe talk about other anime. I finished the last film a few minutes ago and I don't think it's the worst one. Just to get this out, my favorite is #5 and my least favorite is #3. There's some merit to the film, but I agree, the concept/storyline was not that strong. Maybe I should save most of my thoughts for the review lol.

Hey, nice Railgun review. Just giving you a heads up, you should watch Index Season 1 before watching Railgun S, unlike the first Railgun you need to know about the main storyline.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
