Kuroshitsuji Movie: Book of the Atlantic

Book of Atlantic executes itself wonderfully. It maintains the line between action and comedy well - the latter of which I should remark is above average, due to its fair balance of deadpan-like humor and gags. For a film whose manga premise is about a boy who is in a contract with a demon, this film also possesses very heartwarming scenes between a typically sullen boy and his ever-cheerful adorable fiancée.

The Funimation team translated the film very well! A couple of mistranslated lines from the online scanlation that were for foreshadowing purposes weren’t ... mistranslated, such as Frances’ gender-neutral comment about “that child protecting their beloved” or something to that nature. Lines weren't translated awkwardly and suited well to the western audience, translating Japanese words to British slang/vocabulary, for instance.

The animation staff who worked on Book of Atlantic gave it their all on the fighting scenes. I especially praise the storyboard artist(s) who worked on Lizzie’s scene. I read Yana’s tweet about Lizzie “moving like a ballerina” and had my doubts prior to watching it, but she was indeed right. Her movements were meticulously animated and I adored the attention to the way the camera constantly panned to her shoes. I’m glad the writers and animators didn’t rush it. I should also remark they made her extra cute in the film.

The scenes with the grim reapers were energetic and fun. I have to say, I didn’t really understand the appeal of Grell or Ronald, but the script truly had them perform as charming individuals and as a funny team. In the past, Kuroshitsuji shoehorned Grell too often unnecessarily, thus giving off an image of her being incompetent and purely Sebastian-obsessed. Fortunately, the accuracy to the manga had Grell in the film, albeit indeed flirty and flamboyant, a skillful grim reaper. She definitely stole the scene in the film a couple of times and I’m fond of Grell now, as well I am of Ronald.

I was worried of Double Charles’ appearance being annoying and perhaps disrupting the Midford family’s performances, as they did not appear in the manga during this arc, but their scenes were also brief yet enjoyable. They appear at the dinner with the Midfords, during the bizzare doll’s onslaught (during the carriage scene), and again at the sea in the aftermath of passengers rushing to escape (in which a child was being quietly consoled by Charles Phipps). There was a funny original scene in which Sebastian and Charles Grey chat at the dinner-table, in which Sebastian remarks something along the lines of being “kicked multiple times to life”, referring to Grey’s actions in the Murders arc.

The CGI is indeed noticeable and off-putting sometimes. The film abuses CGI a number of times and sticks out like a sore-thumb in scenes that are supposed to be regular. This is especially noticeable in the beginning of the film, where we see the view of the Campania, which is clearly rendered in CGI and contrasts with everything else that is hand-drawn yet digitally colored. However, they did well in the dramatic scenes. For example, with the Undertaker where we caught a glimpse of the characters’ locations in their encounter. I should also note the film didn’t fare well in scenes where the camera panned back to reveal a character doing a particular pose, such as Undertaker pulling his hair back and whatnot, which I felt although it attempted to be detailed, was quite stiff. The great green aura that surrounded Undertaker, however, distracted me well enough.

Scenes were unfortunately cut, such as Tanaka’s role in Ciel’s flashback due to the voice actor’s passing and the hospital scene. We were unable to hear Madam Red speak in Lizzie’s flashback, but she did speak once during Ciel’s scene with the queen. The scene in the manga where Lizzie witnesses Ciel have a coughing fit was cut as well, unfortunately, because it's a subtle detail that is for a particular chapter/oncoming event. The tailor Nina, which made her debut in the manga following the Circus arc, did not make an appearance at all in the film. I was happy to see Lau and hear him speak in the film albeit briefly, even if animation wasn't put into him much. The intro scene with Sebastian startling the sheepish Ciel after he speaks with Elizabeth about a vacation break was cut and we only saw Sebastian confirming his research in his doctor’s clothes.

There was an extra, anime-original sweet scene with Elizabeth and Ciel after the ending credits (as well as the original manga’s William’s scolding to his co-workers), though, so I can tolerate those cuts. I should note that when you watch Ciel and Lizzie's flashback when they're facing the graves of the Phantomhive family, the anime staff quite emphasized a "hint" about a certain popular, established theory in the Japanese fandom and a growing one in the western fandom.

Overall, a really great movie and I’m glad to have watched it. The person in my company, although unfamiliar with Black Butler and having only seen a few clips, was able to enjoy the film as we did not require much prior knowledge of the manga's content. I should also mention, as a final note, that the soundtrack is superb a couple of times during the film, albeit unmemorable for the rest (especially combat scenes). They re-used some of the previous soundtracks, such as Fantasia and Sweet Tears from "Book of Circus", and Annoying Visitor and Thick Fog from "Book of Murder". However, let me just say the orchestral track that plays when Ciel has a PTSD flashback watching Sebastian violently slaughter the Bizarre Dolls was my favorite, and I hope for the soundtrack to be released soon for it. Additionally, SID's theme song for the film that plays in the credit is catchy and beautiful and I encourage staying for both the song and the extra scene after the credits.

Kuroshitsuji Book of the Atlantic was the first anime movie I had ever seen in theaters (I know that's very sad lmao) and I was very pleased by it!

Right at the beginning I was a little upset that they had used CGI for the ship and people, it wasn't horrible just very noticeable. The movie follows the manga very well and they didn't change anything major that I recall. The voice acting was very amazing, the mood was fantastic and all the ladies, and few men, were fangirling like crazy. The only thing that bothered me at times were the animation. Most ... of the animation was amazing but a few parts could've been much better in my opinion;and the CGI was also used many other times which for me was a turn off. (Another thing that isn't about the movie was that the people in the theater were VERY annoying, they screamed and made stupid remarks,so beware. Also the movie is a little dim in some parts and the subtitles are bright so it might hurt your eyes if your eyes are sensitive like mine)

If even my sister, who is a strict adult that doesn't watch anime, can sit through and enjoy it, I'd say you could enjoy it too. Also beware of the hotness overload, bring tissues for them nosebleeds!

I've been waiting to see Book of the Atlantic since it came out in January, and now, a few days after watching it, I finally can sit down and put together my thoughts.

It was well worth the wait!

Book of the Atlantic excels in the animation, even more so than Book of Circus. There were some noticeable uses of CGI which I found was slightly distracting, but it's a small flaw in an otherwise amazing film.

More of Ciel's past is revealed, including how he came to meet Sebastian, how they established their relationship. It was great to see the early stages of them ... knowing each other, how Sebastian came to be so efficient at his job as Butler, etc.

Lizzie, Ciel's absolutely adorable fiance, receives a more fleshed out backstory finally, and her development is top notch, some of the best. To avoid spoilers, I won't go too into this, but Lizzie's movements were some of the best-animated scenes of the film. They were beautiful, fluid, and absolutely gracefully, everything I'd expect from a Midford.

Another side character, Undertaker, also receives a fair bit of development. I think you'll be surprised at his part in this arc, I know I was.

We were finally able to see the Midford's in action, though I was a little disappointed their roles were cut down a little bit. I was still glad to see more of them.

I was also happy to see more of Snake, though I wished he received a tad more screen time.

Book of the Atlantic works incredibly well as a film instead of a series, I think. Though there were some scenes I was disappointed weren't shown (Tanaka in Ciel's flashbacks, Ciel's conversation with Snake about his insecurities) I was still pleased with the overall storyline.

I did find myself growing a tad bored towards the end however during the fight sights, as they did feel slightly repetitive, but the story moves on fast enough.

I enjoyed Grell and Ronald's parts in the film, I thought they were a good balance to the storyline, and further adding to the theme of death.

The music is good, though it's not really memorable. The ending theme is once again done by SID, who did the opening theme of Book of Circus. I enjoyed just as much, and have had it stuck in my head for days now.

I watched the sub this time, which I normally watch the dub, but I found that I enjoyed it just as much. The VA's do a great job incorporating emotion into each line so that it packs a punch.

Book of the Atlantic once again excels as part of the series, and I'm excited to see what else it has in store!

I like Black Butler, don’t get me wrong, but this Movie was PURE SHIT. This goes to show that everything after season one is bull crap. The producers have milked the franchise so much that they have become saggy old granny tits. To the people that dabble in Black Butler because of the husbandos, it is not worth it, turn back now.

This wasn't a movie, this was a filler episode that lasted for two hours of excruciating pain. The plot was literately titanic + zombies. There was horrific CGI and no effort into the sound track. Too many flash backs, too much effort incorporating all ... the previous characters, and there was extremely unrealistic character development for Elizabeth. Suddenly she can wield two swords now and climb on walls. She also had a stupid backstory explaining how difficult it was to not wear high heels since Ciel isn't tall. Boo friggin hoo. For some reason Ciel has shown an exaggerated increase in his love and protection towards Elizabeth, which I call bs because he’s never done that before. Sebastian also became uh...useless? He couldn't fight back against a grim reaper, which we all know he has done many times before!

The movie was horribly directed, with weird bits of comedy shoved in the most serious situations. Every two minutes when zombies go after Ciel, some kind of stupid joke is introduced, like the snakes talking or something.

Also, undertaker is revealed, to be a grim reaper? W-what? Why. For some reason he becomes an asshole that experiments on humans. So out of place and nonsensical. No follow up either. There was no direction in this, what was the point of going on a ship? For Ciel to carry out his duties as a loyal dog? To kill zombies? Why zombies? What? Honestly is this how the manga is later on? That’s terrible. Why is book of murder so good but book of Atlantic is so bad.

Don't be fooled by the ridiculously high score on this movie because only a few hundred people watched this and of course 95% of those people just like Sebastian or Ciel.

For a fan of the series, this is pretty much like the manga. As far as I remember the only thing they added was an extra shot of the Undertaker smirking a bit near the beginning. I don't really recommend a newcomer to start with this movie, not just because of the on-going story, but because this movie is essentially only set up for future arcs.

Nothing is really accomplished in this arc alone, which doesn't make the story bad, but all the other arcs in the manga have a clear beginning, middle and end. Something is always accomplished and characters are developed.

In ... this arc we get to learn more about Ciel and Sebastian's relationship, but either of them really reflect upon it and it isn't really relevant for the story presented in this movie though they were interesting. In the Circus arc I think the flashbacks were done much better because they affected Ciel's actions towards the end and tied into the plot.

Nevertheless the visual in this movie were nice and the characters were enjoyable as always. The voice acting was good and the music pleasing. Black Butler fans will be pleased by it, but newcomers should start with the manga or first series anime.

Watch this if you're tired of seeing boring repetitive tropes and stereotypes in anime instead of characters. On the contrary, if what you're looking for is fanservice and shallow tropes, move along. Brand new newcomers to the franchise will likely be confused, so if you're new keep that in mind.

Keep in mind that this anime is basically an arc full of reveals, rather than a self-contained arc of its own with clear start and clear finish. What it brings to the table are its characters and character development, interesting flashbacks and some humor. But don't expect a story that begins in this arc and ... ends in this arc. Well, there is a story like that in this anime (the whole plot, you know?), but on its own it's nothing mind-blowing. The reason for this is that the plot of this anime is basically just a reveal, too, but I can say no more without spoiling it.

I can't say whether it's bad or good, but there's an overarching story in the manga that unravels horribly, horribly slowly throughout all the arcs, and the Atlantic arc is basically a heavy dosage of reveals dealing with this overarching story directly. I've found it enjoyable on its own, though, both in the manga and right now in the anime, as it's very well-done, has a lot of humor in it and fleshes out a lot of characters.

For reference, I'm writing this assuming you've already seen all the other Black Butler content up to this point.
This movie has the story we've all been waiting for. If you're like me and LOVE flashbacks and learning more about the characters, strap in because it's a lot in this one. And the plot twists? OH MY JESUS I was screaming. Absolutely losing my mind. Truly did not see any of it coming. Hopefully you'll lose your mind as well.
This is a great continuation of the arcs, directly coming from the end of the last one. Finny, Baldroy, and Mey Rin aren't big in ... this one but Snake gets some good screen time. And I absolutely love that sweet boy. Again there's a bunch of new characters as well as bringing back some old favorites.
On top of the classic gore and being on the verge of tears, there is also some of the absolute funniest scenes in the entire show. I am not even lying, the first time I watched this movie I had to pause because I thought I was going to piss myself from laughter. It's incredible.
Please enjoy this film. It's fantastic.

Great movie. Made for the old Kuroshitsuji fans - otherwise you will not get it too much - it is one of the best movies of the saga. Although my first impression was that it was going to be another story like any other, it had two main highlights: good story and, specially, great character development, e.g. we get a deeper look into some of our favorite characters, and that was for me the best part.
Fun, quick, with a lot of action and good fights, it is a must for any Kuroshitsuji fan (you probably need to have seen at least first season).

This review comes from someone who truly loves the Kuroshitsuji manga and its art, so bear that in mind. I'll try to keep it simple and honest.

(SOME SPOILERS AHEAD)

This arc is certainly one of the best in the manga, not only because it is action-packed, but also because Yana Toboso's art is impeccable. And unfortunately, this movie does not do it justice. The animation is sloppy and lazy, the zombies or Bizarre dolls do not walk, they apparently float pixel by pixel, the action scenes are very poorly animated, and the sad thing is that most of the movie happens in darkness.

The adaptation is odd ... because they decided to extend certain things (like Elizabeth's flashback which got boring), and then to skip others (the moment in Sebastian's cinematic record when he appears before the cultists, has a dialogue with Ciel and marks his eye while they boy's still in the cage, something I was very excited about seeing).

Now, the good thing I can point out about the movie was the voice acting. Ono Daisuke's demonic growls were fantastic, 10 year-old Ciel is adorably grumpy, and the same goes for the rest of the cast. They did a wonderful job and truly saved this movie, in my opinion.

So, in short, if you're in need of something average, watch the movie. But if you need some beautiful art accompanied by a better-paced story that does not extend what isn't important and focuses on what you really need to see, then please, go and read the manga! It is a much better experience.

BlacK Butler Franchise has 2 seasons.To be honest,I was kinda bored watching the first two seasons.The first season and the second season were not that much detailed about Ciel Phantomhive and Sebastian's backstory.How Ciel and Sebastian got together and acting like master and butler were not expressed clearly so I was kinda indifferent to watch the movie but I actually did not think that this movie would have such goosebump materials in the first place.

The two seasons could not give that much goosebumps like this movie gave in 1 hour 40 minutes.Ciel and Sebastian's backstory were expressed crystal clear.More of all,the anime was supposed to ... be a dark fantasy franchise but the first two seasons did not give that much of a goosebump for a dark fantasy series but this movie actually did.The movie has the story like a dark fantasy genre should have.Even there are more blood shed and fighting scenes with tragedy storyline in 1 hour 40 minutes.

More of all the Reaper and Sebastian fight scenes were totally wholesome.Undertaker from the other seasons showed his true nature though it would spoil if I say about his identity so I dont wanna say about Undertaker's true identity or backstory.Moreover,the pretty Elizabeth who is called Lizzy by Ciel actually has a great backstory and I could not even believe when she showed her true colours in the middle of the movie.The movie definitely lived upto my expectations,so I would highly recommend it!

Book of Atlantic (another arc from the Kuroshitsuji manga) is again, another one of my favorite arcs. This adaptation however, somehow falls flat compared to Book of Circus and Book of Murder. Down the line we go~

Story: This is honestly where it fell flat for me. I almost wish it wasn't one movie? Or it could have been a movie but given the same treatment as Book of Murder (a two parter). The manga arc is long in itself and of course this means a lot of stuff got cut out. Character development that happens and the buildup to that character development doesn't happen and ... to me, it starts off way too early with the whole zombie thing (about at the 24 min mark for an hour and a half long movie). I'm not sure if this formatting was because of money or some other production roadblock though? If the other arcs are going to be adapted faithfully, then the other ones need to as well. I really wish it would have been formatted better.

Art and sound are the same as both the other current adaptations of Black Butler. My only gripe about the art is this movie relies heavily on CG for the animation, and its really distracting from the story with how bad the CG is.

Characters: Because of the story getting condensed into an hour and a half, a whole bunch of (and I even argue) important character development got left out. Lizzie got her part, and I was happy for that, but other characters were given the short end of the stick when it came to this. The only definite example I can give is the development (or lack thereof) of Snake. Mangawise, Snake struggles with his appearance and abilities now that Noah's Ark Circus is gone and has something short of an identity crisis. Ciel quickly comes in and gives him the self esteem boost that he needed and he becomes very helpful as the plot goes on. Movie wise, Snake could have not been in it at all and nothing would have changed. Characters like Ciel's stylist (who also becomes very important as the story goes on) are cut out as well.

Overall Enjoyment: It's ok. If you need a recap of the manga plot and don't have the time to sit down and read it, then this is what this movie is here for. I would not recommend only watching this movie and would still tell you to read the manga chapters right after the Circus Arc to get information bits that were missed. You can watch it if you want, but don't rely on this movie only.

Book of the Atlantic is adapted from one of the best if not THE best arc of the Kuroshitsuji manga. To make this review extremely short: If you do not like Kuroshitsuji or haven't watched/read any of it, this movie is definitely not for you, so you can give it a skip or put it on hold. If you have watched the show without reading that manga, you should read the manga, but if you refuse to for whatever reason, watch this movie. The characters are all at their best and it's a great, cinematic story. If you have read the manga, there's no reason ... to watch this movie. At all. Anyone who says that the art or animation is good is lying; it's a case where they practically used the manga as storyboards except all of the beautiful details and emotions of the artwork are removed, and the fight scenes looked better in my imagination.
Go reread this arc of the manga and it will be a much more fulfilling experience than watching this poorly made movie.

This film is another great addition to the second wave of Kuroshitsuji adaptations. It has a great story with more character development than most other anime films that are part of a series manage to pull off. Along with good animation, a great soundtrack and that good old Kuroshitsuji charm, it is a must see for all fans of the series.

This film is an adaptation of the 5th ark of the manga. Unlike adaptations of previous arks, that had little to no impact on the overarking story, this one actually moves the plot forward. It starts like any other ark, introducing the setting and building ... up to the reveal of this ark's conflict, but later actually introduces an overarking villain that is an actual fearsome foe and only shows hints of his true motivations, leaving you wanting for more. The begining of the film was a bit rushed, there wasn't enough build up and it seems like the first 15-20 minutes of this film weren't given time to breath, but it is understandable, since they fit an entire ark into an hour and 40 minutes and some parts needed to be cut out. The pacing got much better later on, no part felt draged out or rushed. The balance between drama, action and comic relief was good. The movie never felt too serious all the time and the comic relief didn't feel too out of place. Overall, this film was very well written.

This movie also gave us the most character development we've seen so far out of any other adaptation. We were finally given the backstory to Ciel and sebastians' meeting and how they grew on eachother and became a better duo with time. We got to see some more of characters that were pushed aside in previous arks and learned new and exciting information about characters that appeared regularly and we thought we knew. The caracters were shown in many situations that we usually don't get to see them in. It is rare to see Sebastian being vulnerable or Grell being serious. Speaking of Grell, this is their first canonical appearance in the anime since episode 5 of season one! Ciel and Lizzie's relationship felt organic for the first time ever and Ciel's bond with sebastian also grew stronger. This film didn't only have the best character development in the series, it had some of the best character development I've seen in anime in a while.

The soundtrack by Yasunori Mitsuda (the composer for Chrono Trigger and the previous two Kuroshitsuji adaptations) is one of the best I've ever heard in anime. It added to the movie more than words can describe, went along perfectly with every scene and was masterfully orchestrated. That just goes to show that electronic music and instruments are not the only way to make a great contemporary soundtrack. The music took a lot of inspiration from classical music of the late 19th and early 20th centuries as well as modern film and video game scores. It even incorporated the brittish national anthem and a short parody of "my heart will go on" from Titanic. A truely outstanding soundtrack.
The voice actors were given a lot of time to shine and bring to the screen everything they had. Their performances were passionate and varied, they truely gave it their best.

The animation was... inconsistent. There was a lot of CGI used for background and establishing shots and it didn't always blend well with the character animation. They also used 3D models for some shots and sometimes it was so painfully obvious that it just pulled me out of the movie. The 2D animation was good overall. Sometimes it wasn't that great (usually when they had to draw characters really far away, or in one scene when they zoomed in on a character and it changed the line thickness), but when it came to action, blood, special effects and especially the battle choreography and direction, the animation was absolutely breathtaking. The sakuga and the execution of the action and other important scenes was brilliant and it's a shame that the entire movie couldn't look this way. I think the animation, despite being inconsistent and not up to par with a lot of recent anime films, was overall pretty good.

This is a great movie, one of the best anime films this year. It might as well be the best Kuroshitsuji adaptation so far. If you're a fan of Kuroshitsuji, you've probably seen it already, but if you still need to catch up, do it and do it fast, because this film is just great and it would be a shame if you missed it.

Kuroshitsuji does Zombie Invasion on a Boat?...

Well before LA tackles the movie itself, the Kuroshitsuji series has been a somewhat nostalgic favourite of LA's, from the first season hooking LA in very quickly with it's characters, settings and badassery to Book of Circus delving more into Ciel's past while at the same time giving us some rather sympathetic villains in the process while bringing us more into Kuroshitsuji's world lore at the same time. What?..what second season?...LA has never heard of a second season of Kuroshitsuji before...and finally we continue with Book of Atlantic.

The Book of Atlantic is just like any of the "Books" of ... Kuroshitsuji, isolated incidents that lure Ciel in due to his status as the Queen's watchdog and along the way we get more world building and more into Ciel's past once again, only this time Book fo Atlantic goes into some developments of some rather minor characters LA wasn't expecting in this movie.

Some mild spoilers, you have been warned.

So Book of Atlantic takes place is what is essentially a zombie invasion on a boat but seriously that is the LEAST of this movie's highlights, however for what the movie's and by it's major villain's ambitions does makes sense into the plot at least, what with the villain's fascination with death. Nonetheless the zombie outbreak is the setting for the movie, so what are the highlights of this movie, well it's two or three characters that utterly steal the spotlight from the movie, those being Elizabeth Midford, Undertaker and hey Sebastian gets some character development here too.

Let's start with Elizabeth, she's the regal moe fiancee of Ciel of the series and from the first season alone, she was nothing but comic relief, however we see from this movie that she's a rather sword hiding under the silk in terms of her backstory and how BADASS she REALLY is by the end of it. Book of Atlantic also pretty much shows that Ciel is now actually personally smitten after Elizabeth shows her true self to Ciel...too bad her screentime then gets stolen by...

UNDERTAKER, yeah, so you know the major villain of this whole movie, yeah it's him who was ALSO another minor comic relief character in the series and he too finally gets to show his true self, that of a Fallen Shinigami being fascinated by humans and death and yes he is the mastermind behind the entire movie essentially with having the red herring of Doctor Ryan Stoker being the catalyst to it all and creating the zombies in the first place. Due to this both Sebastian and the Shinigami's of Grell (Yeah...he's back) and Ronald Knoxx wants him dead or alive as Undertaker essentially screwed with Ciel and Sebastian and caused a massive backlog confusion with the Shinigami's, so both parties goes after him.

And finally, Sebastian essentially gets his backstory of what happened before the first season and his goals of being the Phantomhive butler in the first place (which fans of the anime already knows), to this as much as looking into the backstory of how Sebastian became Ciel's butler as well as both of them learning from their mistakes in order to become the duo they are, Sebastian's backstory comes well not out of nowhere, more like is backstory takes TOO long and the forgone conclusion of Sebastian wanting Ciel's soul matured and delicious is something we already know...LA doesn't know that part felt like partial filler to LA, but whatever.

In terms of animation done once again by A1-Pictures, the character designs are expected quality even for movie standards as well as the period this movie is placed in (the 1880's), LA did have some problems with the CGI zombies but since the zombies are somewhat suppose to be these shambling corpse of what was once humans, LA thinks LA can let the CGI quality slide in this movie. The action scenes are gory, bloody and all round a gore fest what with the zombies anyways but nonetheless the animation by the by was decent enough even if there are a few CGI problems here and there.

In terms of voice acting, this is an impressive voice cast, what the reprisal of many of the anime series voice cast, Maaya Sakamoto once again crossdressing voices as Ciel again and Daisuke Ono as Sebastian, YUKARI TAMURA as Elizabeth was amazing as always and heck LA didn't know the Major and Kirei Kotomine had a daughter...YUP Atsuko Tanaka and Joji Nakata gets some voice cameo's as Elizabeth's mother and father!. LA wanted to put Yukari Tamura as LA's MVP however due the circumstances of TWO characters stealing the movie away from her, LA would put both Juniche Sawabe and Jun Fukuyama (as Undertaker and Grell respectively) as LA's MVP's in terms of voice cast.

The Book of Atlantic is another of Ciel's isolated adventures, however has actually less to do with Ciel this time and has more to do with the minor characters getting the spotlight what with Elizabeth and Undertaker and everything. Book of Atlantic tries to weave something about the human condition be it the living or dead and tries to pit the one another, however due to our major villain Undertaker's curiosity and him retreating in the aftermath, LA is kinda mixed about what Ciel learned from all this?, is it don't look at just surface level of things otherwise you'll regret it, or is it that death is imminent no matter what?...well at least the entire "surface level" thing is accurate towards Elizabeth and Undertaker, but the death subject fled with Undertaker himself.

Well introspection of the Book fo Atlantic aside, the Book of Atlantic is another romp of the Queen's watchdog and his butler with supernatural elements this time coming from zombies and Shinigami's and demons going all at it on a freakin' boat. If your a fan of Kuroshitsuji it's obvious to watch this movie if not for character developments you weren't expecting or just showing that some characters you thought you knew are something completely different, more world building or if your just here to see what Ciel and Sebastian is up to this time.

*Note - LA forgot to watch Book of Murder before watching Atlantic, just if your wondering why Murder wasn't mentioned.

well... This movie so amazing!!,I hope this is not the ending of the Phantomhive story. I really like this anime and film. I hope the producers and writers of the story continue this story from Phantomhive.

Is there a continuation of this story? I really wonder and really look forward to the continuation of the story. well I'm very impressed with this film. mix with titanic film !! it is my favorite movie too. I also like the special Phantomhive series, when Ciel and the others hold a drama to entertain the orphanage children. the story was adapted from the hamlet story. it's so briliant !!

Kuroshitsuji is a well-known, well-loved series, with a fascinating story and an interesting take on Victorian England. It is well paced, with lovingly crafted animation and beautiful sound. The characters are well-rounded, and the story is fairly consistent within its own boundaries.

This movie throws all of that out the window. It comes off as a shameless cash-in on a popular franchise, which ignores parts of the story as told up to this point in an attempt to pull off its big plot twists. The mixture of CGI and traditional animation is clunky and poorly executed at best. The background music is barely even worth ... mentioning, since it is easily forgettable and lends nothing to any given moment.

Two of the major plot twists (and I use this term very loosely) shown in the movie are nonsensical, especially the movie's ending "twist", the fact that the Undertaker is a Shinigami in disguise. The entire scene jarred me out of my immersion in the story, because it wasn't a twist at all. The fact that the Undertaker is a famous, powerful Reaper is a plot point that *already played out in season one*. That's right: this movie used a" plot twist" that they had already used in the initial series. The characters being shocked to find out about it was a total wash, because they already knew, or at least they should have if this movie followed the canon of the original anime.

All in all, this movie would have been fantastic if it were intended to be a stand-alone or introduction to the series, rather than the *fifth major installment*. As it is, this movie was a huge waste of time and money, reflected by its terrible box office in North America. Even if you're a big fan of the series (perhaps especially then), give this one a miss and hope they do better next time if they decide to adapt more of the manga.

Zombies on Titanic? Sums it up.

Jokes aside, I found the story quite entertaining as usual. Probably key points of value this time around were character reveals and small progression that came alongside them. Other than that it simply felt as if Ciel and Sebas were on just another case.

Both aspects were good as always with some very noticeable and great OST. Combat was well animated and also had few a bit more artistic/unique animation sequences.

As mentioned, this time around biggest enjoyments were some character reveals. Which I cannot discuss as it would be spoiler.

All I can say, I do love Elizabeth now.

✦Enjoyment & Overall
Long story short. Black butler franchise is very fun as always with lot of classy fights and intriguing characters. Except "II" which I found horrible.

It was another case, with dark turn as per usual, which leads one thing to another and the whole picture is simply fun. Not sure anything else is required to comment. As I expect viewers, who watch this movie, have seen the prequels.

The story is way better than seasons two and one. It follows the manga and improves greatly on humor. I saw this movie in a one night special theater showing and when one joke came on, the whole theater and myself were in tears. But, it does have the normal black butler idea of dark, and I hate this word but even edginess. If you are looking for a dark Titanic like anime movie, this is the one to watch.

-~Art/Animation~- 9/10 (Great)
I can't even begin with it, ... it's so fluid and beautiful to look it. The color pallet consists of monotone colors with a few vivid colors in the mix. If you've seen any Love Live anime (sorry to bring this up, this is just to compare) it has some 3d bits in it, I'm certain this movie has them too. The colors, once again are pretty, but nothing different then we've seen in earlier seasons of the anime.

-~Sound~- 8/10 (Very good)
I barely ever rate sound that high except a view times but this moment it was worth it. The voice acting sounds like the VAs actually got into the character and is greatly approved, again, from other seasons. The only complaint I have is it sounded very loud at some points but maybe that was just because of the place I saw it in.

-~Characters~- 6/10 (Fair)
This is really my only problem with this movie, I was kinda let down by all of this. I can't give out any things about the characters but I will say that 2 of them (that were really important mind you) took the most cliche turns for their character types ever. To be honest, this brought the movie down a whole number grade for me, it totally ruined the plot they set up. These new "personalities" just, I hope they will make a new season either explaining better or just scraping this overused trope.

As I said in the characters why it isn't a perfect ten. Besides that, it was awesome! It totally makes up for the garbage of the first two seasons.

It was a pretty great anime movie! Do I like it? Yep! Will I watch it again, if I can? Yep!

The so far last part is based on the manga that received an anime adaptation.

The description of this episode already tells the whole process of it. As a fragment of a season, this would be better, but since I practically have to rate the film individually, the rating is correspondingly more negative.



On the plot side, almost nothing happened in the whole movie. Just action, simple antagonists. The only surprising thing was the implementation of the undead, which should even compete with Hollywood. Apart from that, he was very weak in the area of ​​the plot.

If we go on ​​entertainment there was nothing to complain ... about, it is almost first class


The best part about this was the characters. Because you actually got to know something from Elizabeth, which makes her no longer seem like a pain in the ass but has a little depth. And saw more of Sebastian, Ciel, and Undertaker.

In the end, the film was quite entertaining and added something to the plot. But as a single film separated from the work, it was only slightly above average and did not come up to the level of Book of Circus.

Ciel is off on another investigations... on a boat... that's having it's Maiden voyage... said to be top of the line (unsinkable)...

Yeah they're parodying the titanic with this and make it very clear with the famous pose from the movie. It does come with a twist though, lets just say this ship is full of dead men/women walking.

Plot = 7.5/10
Plot wise it's pretty straight forward however character wise this is very much worth a watch. They stuck to the manga this time which explains so much, why the reapers hate demons (they collect souls and demons eat them messing with the record) Even Grell ... that was shoehorned in as a tasteless joke in previous installment is shown here as a proper reaper, flamboyant but the job comes first. To all of them the job comes first so Sebastian is very much public enemy number one regardless of their personal feeling about him.

Also unlike past installments this one works both as a stand alone or a continuation. You get references to the book of Circus and book of murder but they are just passing references, this one works even with zero knowledge of the series thanks to the great characterization everyone gets.

Character = 9.5/10

What makes the movie. Oddly enough the flashbacks were the best part. You get to see things from that particular character's point of view. Lizzie gets far more depth then the paper thin "annoying straight character go away!". She actually sacrificed a lot and went out of her way for Ciel.

Sebastian flashbacks mixed in comedy with drama beautifully. You see the demon behind the mask and honestly it's a lot more fun than the shallow "oh contract, I must obey".

Even side characters that are there for just one or two scenes get depth and meaning to them.

Art & animation = 8/10

The hand drawn animation is beautiful, which causes the abysmal CGI to stick out like a sore thumb. The animation though is more good than bad with shots like Lizzie's fight scene animated to look like a ballet dance. There are some also some subtle hints to secrets further into the manga if you know what to look for.

Fun factor = 8/10

This was a great balance of comedy and serious moments. All the characters are entertaining on screen and fun to watch. Unlike the other installments it's very re-watchable.

Great movie regardless if you're a fan of the franchise or not.
