Mixed Feelings
Book of the Atlantic is adapted from one of the best if not THE best arc of the Kuroshitsuji manga. To make this review extremely short: If you do not like Kuroshitsuji or haven't watched/read any of it, this movie is definitely not for you, so you can give it a skip or put it on hold. If you have watched the show without reading that manga, you should read the manga, but if you refuse to for whatever reason, watch this movie. The characters are all at their best and it's a great, cinematic story. If you have read the manga, there's no reason ...

I'm really disappointed because, based on the first episode, I really wanted this show to be good. It seemed like it was going to be pretty funny and actually take its character motivations seriously, but the show took a harsh drop after the first few episodes and quickly filled itself with too many characters to care about and watched its promising aspects fade into the background. The production value suffers A LOT as well. It also had the misfortune of coming out in the same year as Yuri on Ice, which does the whole "men do a traditionally feminine sport in a non-high school setting" ...

Kuroshitsuji 2 is the worst anime I've ever watched to completion. Not only does it completely fall flat as a sequel, it's also just poorly crafted. The story's pace all over the place, moving from intense developments to nothing happening for episodes on end. In that respect, it almost feels like 2 different shows: one is a half-assed and really boring sequel, while the other is a disturbing but kind of interesting story that is constantly interrupted by plot contrivances. Really the only strength it has is an interesting antagonist, but I feel like he would have thrived much better in a different show with ...

I watched this show as a 21 year old woman and the entire time I was watching it, I felt like a teenage boy. In a good way. It's highly entertaining and inspiring, and sports a great artistic style. The characters are likeable, the themes are interesting, and there are some pretty good morals packed in there. It's often disregarded as just a fun, dumb, manly show, but I think there's a lot more to it than that. It feels like a product of passion and thought, and that really comes through to the viewer.
If you're a girl and you thought this show looked like ...

FLCL (Anime) add
FLCL is filled to the brim with ideas and action despite being only 6 episodes. It acts as a coming of age story with an interesting resolution, and balances the disturbances and mundanity of everyday life with crazy, over the top giant robot battles and spastic comedy.
If weird art-house shows aren't your thing, this probably won't sway you. But if you see a trailer for FLCL and are even the slightest bit interested, you owe it to yourself to watch it. The fast pace and fantastic aesthetic are bound to do something for you, and if you pay attention to the story and themes, ...

Baccano! (Anime) add
Are you a fan of action? Drama? Comedy? Romance? Creative storytelling? Then by god this is the show for you. Baccano! is immensely entertaining on a basic level, seeing as it is often either hilarious or acting as an action thrill ride, but there's more to it. The show largely comments on the nature of storytelling and the arbitrary conventions of narrative (ex. a main character, a linear plot, a beginning, an ending, a single genre). It does everything it can to shake up the story and keep your brain working to put all of the narrative pieces together.
Even if you're not interested in ...
