Hatsukoi Monster was a show that I was looking forward to quite a bit. I’m a sucker for cute girls in plotless romance series (Ore Monogatari, Orange, etc). You see I don’t need a smashing ingenious plot to enjoy something. What I //do// need is a plot that doesn’t ridicule me. And well. That’s where this show went wrong.

Plot:
While the first few episodes introduce us to our characters ... and how they handle each other. (This actually had me rooting for the show and shunning everyone who dared speak negativity of it.) Soon enough some questionable things got introduced. A girl who steals clothing and lives in the same house as the man she stalks. An elder brother with a siscon so bad that he saves her bathwater to drink from. And a butler who gets nosebleeds from his 10 year old master. To say the least this show went for a shocking approach. By episode 6 it’s safe to say that the plot has little to nothing to do with romance anymore and it’s more about how many shocking jokes we can fit into one ep. Personally I don’t find any of these matters to be joked about. Stalking, paedophilia, incest. Haha I’m having a blast. The great resolve of the romance is also something that I missed I think? We get a daydream. A huge out of character confrontation about everything that didn’t make sense about the show (Why Kanade is so tall. Why he only acts childish when the plot calls for it, etc) and after that promises to be together forever that’s it? Also there’s a dog that feels up an underage boy.

Characters:
Usually I’m a sucker for cute girls. I love moe girls that make me want to protect them. But Kaho is just from another dimension. She’s so dense, yet empty at the same time that after 12 eps I’m not sure what her character is like, minus the fact that she loves Kanade. Kanade himself is this weird crossover between a bishie and a child, which is also all there is to his character. The same goes for most of his friends. They look old, act young. All they do is make penis jokes. There’s a mean dude who doesn’t want Kanade and Kaho to date. There’s a few funky housemates who do have interesting characters yet none of them are ever explored enough to be truly likable. And their relationship to Kanade and Kaho seems to be made of nothing but ‘we live in the same house so we’re friends right?’

Sound:
I’ll be honest. One of the main reasons that drew me in for this show was the cast. I’m an avid seiyu fan and seeing so many talented ones in one show was what got me hooked. That was also all I did enjoy about the show.
The opening is generic and the ending had me wonder what it had to do with a romance anime. The OST is decent. It reminded me of grade school.

Art:
The art is. Decent? I’ve seen worse. I’ve seen better. It’s not striking despite its colour palette. It has it’s good and bad moments. Key moments especially are the generic ‘wow I’m so in love with him’ shots and they’re pretty cute. But they easily get balanced out by laughably bad backgrounders

Overall:
Like I said in the opening you can probably not enjoy this If you like decent plot. I only finished watching it because I was waiting for it to regain the grace it had in the beginning. I can deal with whimsical, weird plots. But the plot has to be there. This show completely gave up around episode 4 and sailed onwards with nothing but penis jokes and drama that had me laughing more at being expected to believe it than actually enjoying it. Add to that the risky/downright gross subjects brought up and I personally can’t believe this series is supposed to be anything but an insult to the people who spend time on it.

If, on the other hand, you love series that need you to turn your brain off to enjoy it. By all means this is the series for you.

Have you ever thought about what it would be like if all the kids you babysit were hot bishie airheads who made penis jokes and periodically break up with you because of reason's shallower than the kiddie pool at your local country club? No? Good, then you're normal.

STORY: 1/10

Exactly what you would expect from a shoujo story, the only difference being that the parts you can't stand (ex. melodrama, breakups, jealousy, stupid comedy) are magnified by a tenfold. Other than a couple laughs due to the absolute ridiculousness of making 5th grade boys look ... like college students, and the author's deluded dream of pedophilia becoming legal, the story has absolutely nothing to offer. It will turn away even the biggest fans of the genre.

See, the thin I hate about shows like these is that they usually get very good art and animation, which could have gone to much more deserving series.. Luckily, Hatsukoi Monster wasn't gifted with good art or animation. It's very colorful, and the palette gives it a childish look, which I think they were going for, so that's good. But everything else is subpar at best.

Though Hatsukoi Monster wasn't blessed with good art, it was blessed with some AMAZING voice actors. Not all of them, mind you, and some of the characters' voices are annoying, even the ones that aren't intentionally meant to be annoying. That said, some of the voices help to bring the otherwise flat characters to life, and was probably my favorite part of the show overall. Other than that though? The opening and ending theme are hopelessly bad and the sound effects were no standout.

CHARACTER: 2/10

Oh god. This has to be THE most intolerable character cast I've seen in a while. The only characters that didn't make me want to break my screen were Kanade, Mafuyu, and Gin. Before that though, lets talk designs.

If you had looked up bishie template, colored the hair all the colors of the rainbow with microsoft paint and then told your editor to slap a couple of accessories on each of them, I don't think I would have noticed the difference.

On second thought, that's probably what they did...

Personality-wise, most of them are just recreations from your typical reverse harem/shoujo story, from evil megane to trap boy to sis-complex older brother. And then the rest of them are just fifth graders cracking penis jokes like nobodies business. Though it was funny at first, it just becomes idiotic after the first couple times. And this is coming from a GINTAMA fan! However, I will say that Gin, Kanade, and Mafuyu manage to show a bit of personality, and are at least consistently amusing to view.

Hatsukoi Monster is an immature pile of garbage that can only be enjoyed if you are as immature as it's characters and humor. Nothing wrong with that, it's just not for me.

Maybe next time, try falling in love with someone your age.

After watching the first episode I thought this was going to be a pretty good comedy. I even turned some people onto the first episode because I thought the premise was pretty funny and unique. Then it quickly stopped being funny and became a real romance story between a high school girl and an elementary school kid.

After watching the first episode you might assume that the story is going to be big joke watching this girl try to find a way out of her relationship without hurting the guy's feelings, and also try to hide her relationship status from other people so they don't ... get the wrong idea. Then it just becomes a story about how this girl is actually legitimately in love with this child. That story is just annoying and weird, and the background characters can be described in the same way.

Even the art in this show is really hit or miss in very obvious ways. Sometimes it looks like standard shojo style, sometimes the perspectives are weird, or the eyes are drawn funny, or something else goes off in an easily visible way.

I wouldn't recommend this show to anyone. Even the first episode, which I thought was decent at the time, is nothing more than a tease for what this series could have been.

Having watched through the entire series, I can honestly say that the title is suiting, for this series is monstrous. There is a lot I have to say about “First Love Monster”, and it’s not exactly what many may be thinking of. While this wasn’t a show I was entirely looking forward to for that season, but the synopsis still caught my interest. Unfortunately, what I ended up getting was twelve episodes of absolute garbage.

Let’s get the story portion out of the way. Reading the summary is what made me want to give it a try, and probably made everyone else not touch it with ... a 20-foot pole. Subject matter like this doesn’t faze me that much. However, the thing that bothered me during my time watching it was the execution. It’s supposed to be a “love story” yet it’s everything but that. This doesn’t just pertain to the main plot as pretty much the rest of the show was poorly written. The only praise I can give it is with episode six. This was, without a doubt, the best episode and the reason being is it didn’t deal with the dribble that was the “love story”. Instead, it focused on the grown-bodied characters and how they play out in their school full of regular-sized kids, which I found quite entertaining. Seeing that made me wish the series was played out more like that. It wasn’t even halfway through when I knew there was no chance of redemption. And the only thing I can say about the finale was that it was pure garbage.

What else goes with horrible writing than horrible characters? My guess is, since the main concept is already extreme as it is, all characters must have extreme personalities to balance it out. The problem is there’s no depth to these characters, which, adding their personalities, makes them utterly annoying. Our main heroine has to be one the worst I’ve seen in a while. I can understand it’s her first love and emotions can get mixed up in certain situations, but the reasons behind them are really dumb. Also, the concept of having a grown-looking child isn’t new as it’s been done in the short-form series “Recorder and Randsell” (done way better, in my opinion). There’s not even much to say about the support characters because they’ll just come and go. Everyone is two-dimensional, almost close to being one-dimensional.

It’s at this point where the story and characters are bad enough that I can’t even care about the animation. Still, it’s not at all impressive. There were several episodes where you look at the character models and they look horrendous. I have to bring up episode six again because I believe that was the best animated episode (I don’t know what it is about it). Studio Deen has done some great shows in 2016, so adding this to their history won’t necessarily affect them.

At the beginning of the show’s run, I personally defended it because I was aware that many were going to hate on it due to its premise. As the weeks went by, my defense for it lowered gradually to the point where I couldn’t care less about what anyone would say because this was simply pure garbage. Even when I knew it was bad, I still continued to watch because I was curious to see how far it can go. Now, I honestly regret watching it, and would never put myself through such torture (unless I watch with someone else). From an uninteresting story to almost non-existent characters and atrocious animation, “First Love Monster” is the last romantic comedy I would want to re-watch.

The really low reviews and ratings on this is what made me curious, I wanted to see what it was all about because the synopsis actually sounded decent to me.

I've never heard wiener said so many times said in an anime, especially just in the first episode.. But I didn't hate it.
It is a little weird hearing 'kids' that look like older teenagers talking and acting like children.

Kaho is adorable, she's been pretty sheltered in her life. People wouldn't do anything wrong to her or talk to her certain ways because of who her parents are, so when somebody finally does she has no ... idea how to react, other than thinking people want something from her because of what family she's from. But she's also very innocent and both her and Kanade are pretty oblivious.

The romantic parts between Kaho and Kanade are nice, you forget how much of a kid he is and get sucked into how loving he's being. He's a gentleman, most of the time, even though he doesn't know what that is.

The plot is pretty simple, falling in love with someone for the first time, trying to accept them for who they are even with big age and experience boundaries while working through the hardships that come with that.
But it's obvious it's not supposed to be a serious story, it's just some fun with little bits of romance mixed in. If you're looking for satisfying romance though, this won't get you there.

While watching it I was a little confused, as to whether I did or didn't like it. I did find it amusing. I think it was cute. I enjoyed watching it, but there's just some little thing that feels off-putting? Not the age difference. I can't pin point what it is. Saying all that though, overall I did enjoy it. It kept me amused and that's all I figured I'd get from it, so I'm alright with that.

This is going to be as short as MAL let me : this is the worst romcom anime ever made in history, and I can't even begin to understand how this thing made it into a manga, let alone an anime. In a way, that's impressive in itself. As you watch the show, it becomes obvious they're trying very hard to adopt a personal style of sort, some kind of artistic position to cover for the simplest flaws of the story. But I think these efforts are - mostly - unrewarded.
I won't even bother to explain why this is unwatchable. Instead I would ... suggest this : watch at least one or 2 episodes of this thing and make an opinion for yourself.
Once in a while maybe it makes sense to watch something worth nothing to fully appreciate the rest.
Story 1/10 : still searching for the story, really. But wait, someone's suggesting it revolves around a 5th grader dating an older girl. Wow. Creativity is amaziiiiing.
Art 4/10 : it helps when you get the feeling you've already seen this kind of art. Countless times. It is somewhat ... comforting.
Sound 4/10 : comes with the Art, repeat again. Creativity is the next old thing anyway.
Character 2/10 : sorry, what ? Psychology ? Never heard of that. Please stop using complicated words.
Enjoyment 1/10 : ha ha ha. Now I'm laughing. At last.
Overall 1/10 : Since nothing is supposed to be perfect, I suppose we could say that nothing can be that BAD. Now this anime is really hard to enjoy, but overall it was still able to avoid an abyss of things-that-could-have-been-very-wrong. So, thanks for the effort, but too bad that won't save it in the end.

Personally this anime is one of my favorites because its so stupid. It's the weirdest therefore the most entertaining. I will say that it can seem a bit strange during just about the entire thing but that's why it is so interesting. Don't watch this anime if you are looking for a love story because it would make you feel uncomfortable. Watch this Anime If you want to cry your eyes out by how weird and surprising it can be throughout. I heard some people think the age difference is huge when in reality that age gap is actually normal when it comes to adulthood. ... My loved this show not for the story but for all the "What the actually heck is going on now" vibe. Highly recommend because of the journey it takes you through.

in short WTFH?

this was beyond creepy, it doesn't matter that the artist clearly made the characters look older on purpose or not, the fact that one of the main character is an elementary school student and the other a high school student is just straight up wrong not to mention seriously disturbing. I have my doubts this anime should of even been made and it literally turns my stomach knowing that if i had continued it the relationship apparently develops more. Anyone who enjoyed such a thing has some serious mental issues they might wanna go deal with.
It legit feels like it should be illegal ... to even of produced such an abomination.

When it comes to romance, one thing you must keep in mind is that appearances aren't everything. I'm not just talking about personalities, either; what I mean is that chances are that a hot guy you've seen before is actually WAY younger than you. Let me get one thing straight; I knew all along that Hatsukoi Monster wasn't going to be good. The manga already isn't all that well-received, and when I read a few chapters of it myself, I found myself getting more bored with it than a lot of other shoujo manga I've read. Just for the sake of writing a review, though, ... I ended up watching the anime adaptation, and.... well, you'll understand when you read this review.

Ladies and little boys who look like gentlemen, here's my review of "Hatsukoi Monster", a.k.a. "First Love Monster".

Hatsukoi Monster follows a girl named Kaho Nikaidou, who is from a rich family and moves to an apartment building at the start of high school. When she arrives, she is almost hit by a truck and is saved by a handsome "young man". As it turns out, the "young man", Kanade Takahashi, is living in the same apartment building as Kaho; soon enough, Kaho confesses her newfound feelings for him. Kanade accepts her confession.... only to reveal to her the next day that he's a fifth grader. From there, a slightly chaotic story around their relationship forms.

As you can see, everything about the story of Hatsukoi Monster is cliché, even the fact that Kanade and two of his friends, Tomu and Gin, are elementary school students who look older; I can easily name two other anime that do the same thing (Recorder to Randoseru and Yoiko). However, it's the fact that all of the elementary school students who actually LOOK their age who are more mature than them, even their friend Kazu, that especially bugs me. Yes, they're young, but these three behave the most immaturely out of everyone, making poop jokes and other things like that; honestly, it's kind of cringey. Speaking of jokes, while a select few of them did manage to get me to grin a little bit, none of them actually got me to laugh. This anime plays itself off like a parody, but there's a right and a wrong way to do a parody; this isn't the right way.

As I mentioned before, Kanade and his friends have got to be some of the cringiest characters in anime history, and I wasn't really a fan of any of them. I'll give Kanade credit for one thing, though; he has said some pretty deep things throughout the series for a fifth grader. I still wasn't a fan of him, though. I really didn't like Kaho, either; except for one scene in the last episode, she spent the whole series as a wishy-washy Mary Sue (okay, maybe not exactly a Mary Sue, but the word just happened to come to my mind) with something obviously wrong with her brain if she's going to stick to loving Kanade with that age difference and his extreme childishness. The rest of the cast comes out either bland or just plain annoying; I will admit, though, I did kind of like Kazu at first.

The voice acting was decent, considering the fact that one of my favorite seiyuus, Yui Horie, is part of the cast - and as the protagonist, no less! (Too bad her voice couldn't save her character.) The opening and ending themes, "Innocence" and "Kimi ni Sasageru Chinkonka" both by Shouta Aoi, were skippable yet not bad songs. Hatsukoi Monster does have one thing I can honestly praise, though, and that is its animation. This year, Studio Deen gave us Konosuba and Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto (with the former getting a second season next year), two favorable anime with good animation. Despite this one not turning out as well over all, the animation quality manages to survive; it's bright and colorful, and it's overall pretty to look at.

Unfortunately, despite its few up-points, my overall opinion of Hatsukoi Monster was not a pretty one. If I were to recommend it at all, it'd be to someone who is looking for a cliché only someone who has seen enough anime would be able to spot. Oh, and someone who finds all kinds of poop jokes funny! You can't forget the poop jokes!

All of the reviews posted so far seem to be complaining about this anime. If you're looking for plot and character development in an anime about a high school girl falling in love with a primary schooler than you are really confused and should prepare to be disappointed.

However if you're expecting a moderately entertaining, light-hearted, series about a weird group of inappropriate friends then you'll be satisfied.

I enjoyed the series as an otaku who is used to anime tropes and so can enjoy them objectively and make fun of them. Thats what this anime is supposed to be about, making fun of the weird ... things that are normal in anime culture like little kids being drawn as sexy adults and family members who are overly doting to the point of obsession and dedicated butlers who take the place of parents.

For the first few episodes I found myself a little on edge questioning 'is this okay'. But after the first few episodes it becomes clear that this isn't pedophilia, shes only 15 herself and doesnt want anything sexual from this boy. The creepiest it got for me was the otaku roommate who was obsessed with 'girl-boy' characters but even that wasnt to too bad.

All in all it was decent, I'll never watch it again because it wasnt amazing or anything but hey I watched all 12 episodes so that says something. Even all of the hate reviews seemed to have watched all 12 episodes of it so there must be some entertainment value there.

Plot :

Nikaido Kaho is the online daughter of the richt Nikaido household. Becausenshe is sonpreciousnto her parents, nobody in her environment had ever been mad at her. One day she decides to go and live in Tokyo to bedoel independable. She getsbalmost hit nu a car but gets saved a boy that got mad at her for nog looping out. Kaho fans in love with this boy but soon after confessing she realizes that the boy is actualy in fifth grade.

Story (6) :

It's actually quite a strange story because of the fact that it's about two lovers where one is still in elementary school while ... the other in high school. Because of this many people dislike the anime while there are goods points about it. People explain to Kaho how she should react and what it is to be in love so the messages it brings are nice and for some people helpful.

Art (9) :

It has quite the same art style as most shoujo anime but the colors used are pretty and it's nice to look at. For some some things might disturb them (boy drawn with a girl face) but in the overall it's nice to look at.

Sound (8) :

The voice actors did a great job, especially the ones that had to represent the elementary schoolers. The may have an adult voice but when the kids play they express themselves with a "childish" and playful voice.
The soundtracks themselves are very nice and match the anime.

Characters (8) :

Each character is unique in their own style. Some you might like some not. They are easily recognisable and can easily be remembered.

Enjoyement (7) :

This really depends on each individual. There are some specific traits in the anime that you have to like or not what influences if you enjoy it or not.
Many times during the anime I did cringe, but afterwards when an episode ended I'd hear myself saying "well that was fun".

Overall (7) :

Anime with a strange story but Instill liked it in the end. Now that it's done I really want a second season! I really liked some of the characters and it has a beautiful art style. So, I recommend it if you haven't any (good) anime to watch. It's something to try out ;)

I actually considered this on my summer watchlist because I needed a romantic comedy to balance out the list. What I got is a pretty weird romanctic comedy with lots of bleeps and lots pedophiles. It was cringey and sometimes the show can be a drag so I can't really say if you should watch it unless you have some kind of weird fetish.

Story:

It centers around a high school rich girl who stays at a dorm away from her family due to some cliche circumstances. There she meets this tall and mature looking guy who she instantly fell in love. But this guy has a ... secret and that if she finds it out, she might change her outlook on him, and that secret is that he is a grade schooler, so this is basically a cougar type of romance, there's a BIG difference in their age and their mental capacity. The anime tries to be funny using weird tropes that makes me cringe.

Art:

The art is so bad and it is like so thin looking and tallish art, like imagine, I don't like it and sometimes the animations gets wonky. It is just awful!

Sound:

I didn't like opening songat first but it grew up to me and I never skipped through it. The ending song was not my thing so I skipped it and there wasn't that much standout in terms of background music.

Character:

As you watch the anime, you will begin to hate the main girl, and the main guy because they're a bunch of idiots. There's also the antagonists who are idiots as well as sadists but sometimes you side with them because they are so right. The choices the main characters choose are so cliche and really boring that I can't even, ugh... The other tenants of the dorm are so trope-y and they don't really go out of their one-dimensional character.

Enjoyment:

This anime is the reason why I'm now wary of whatever boring anime that is to come this fall season. Because I didn't like Spring's Joker Game (which gave 100x yawn) and this summer's Hatsukoi Monster. I didn't enjoy that much but I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy all of it, since there was some parts that were funny but the rest were ridiculous!

Overall, this is an anime that must be forgotten due to how it pollutes the human mind with bleeps and pedophiles.

Well another attempt of breaking the paradigm that ended just as stupid as the mess with non sense that this anime provides.
Story - 1
Stupid story with no sense, a lot of plot holes, dumb characters and situations that the creators thought were funny, excessive amount of stupid unfunny dick jokes. The ending also is dumb as hell.
Art - 4
At first look you can see the the animation isn't nothing special I would rather describe as annoying, the colors are bright but the type of character design destroys everything.
Sound - 3
The sound was average nothing really outstanding , the soundtrack also was bad, ... no track stood out.
Characters - 1
All the men look like recycled copies with different haircut thats it. The main character design wasn't nothing outstanding. Their personalities are cliche and some of them are so stupid, like the brother of Kaho and the 5th grade grown ups, it doesn't makes sense at all. There was no character development with nobody.
Enjoyment -1
This show tbh is one was "enjoyable" in the first 3 chapters, but somehow it managed to turn in the most annoying anime I've ever watched, it started getting repetitive as hell, and the amount of unfunny dick jokes were getting annoying as well.
I regret watching this anime for life.

AHHHHHHH I give this a -100,000,000,000 I hated this soooooo much!!!!!!!! It was so wrong!!! Don't get me wrong it had slight potential the animation was beautiful everyone was beautiful the plot and the characters personalities sucked!!!! Kaho literally a teen, 15 to be exact. Okay good for her she's short, she's cute, she's your average loli/school girl. Kanade is a 10 year old that looks like he could be rocking 17 years old maybe even 20 years old, he's 10, TEN YEARS OLD!!!!! For some odd reason he has fully gone through puberty at the age of 10. But it's not just him it's ... him and like 2 or 3 other classmates too(I can't remember now). First of all how?! why?! with who's permission?! *breathes* So they're all 10 year old boys, looking like 17 year old boys acting like 10 year old boys. Which I suppose is fine, okay that's only part of my problem with this anime *forces self to forget the playground scenes*. The main reason why I don't like this anime is the main plot. Kaho falls in love with Kanade thinking he's and high schooler like her, okay I understand her confusion so it's slightly justifiable, but then for the sake of love she goes out of her way to try to date Kanade. Like girl you have so many better options, such as, DON'T DATE HIM HE'S TEN, or go for the creepy little stalker boy that likes her, but they give him no screen time so he's immediately forgotten about, the college guy yes he's in college but he's responsible and nice (but then again I might be biased), or wait for Kanade until he matures to force love and romantic feelings onto him. Again this is just my opinion, I know it was supposed to be "silly" and "taboo", but I didn't get the appeal.

I dropped this dreadful anime.

After watching one episode, I decided to just try watching the second episode. And if I cannot hold in the second episode, I will drop it. But guess what? I dropped it not even during the half of the second episode. This anime is that bad that you just cannot wait to close the browser's tab.

There are lots of disgusting and disturbing elements of this anime. If you are a person who is comfortable and like to watch things that involve everyone being creepy and lusting over other people 24/7, then this is the perfect anime for you.

This ... anime is the epitome of a 'disastrous mess', and I am not even exaggerating. I have nothing else to say.

Don't watch this anime.

With the statement above out of the way, I'll get right to the point: this is depravity. I've watched some really morally-dubious anime, and I've played some absolutely-not-morally-"dubious" videogames, and have come across some media online which have probably gotten some people in jail, but somehow Hatsukoi Monster has managed to top it all, not because it is necessarily, in practical terms, disgusting, but because this anime is built around characters and situations which are simply the work of people whose hard drives need to be checked to ensure the safety of many members of the younger generations.

The premise of this one ... anime, which will certainly not get past Saint Peter the day a solar storm fries every single electronic device on this planet and entirely erases it from existence, is literally "15-year-old girl falls in love with a 10-year-old guy"... what the fuck? No, really, what the fuck? That's not a rhetorical question, and it's not for comedic effect, this is a literal inquiry as to what the fuck is wrong with whoever thought of this? Look, I know, alright? There's a LOT of Japanese media out there which has arguably far worse premises for their plots, but this one right here is not the kind you need to turn off safety filters to find, and this is just the tip of the iceberg. Not only do you have a teenager develop a love interest for A LITERAL FUCKING CHILD, but this anime recurs to what seems to be the peak of comedy: the child looks like a young adult, which is somehow meant to make the whole age difference thing seem less concerning, but I put some implicit stress on the word "looks", because that's the only adult-esque thing about the male protagonist: he LOOKS like an adult, but still acts like a child, and if it wasn't enough, he's got 3 other friends who are in the same situation.

If we get the premise and the near-statistically-impossible fact that there are four children with an extremely rare development disorder which somehow makes them be 1.8m tall at age 10 and whom all just happen to live in the same town and know each other out of the way, we can go ahead and focus on the... uh... the things that are arguably worse... like the two obsessive stalkers... or the literal pedophile who coerces children to crossdress... It's safe to say that this review has already got me put in a watchlist, but these are things that one cannot obviate when discussing Hatsukoi Monster: the entirety of this anime's humor seems to revolve around these concerningly depraved characters doing concerningly depraved things which are supposed to be funny but simply aren't. If you're curious, the cast includes:
• A grown male adult with an obsession over a male child idol who carries a camera around to take picture of primary school children while drooling and loves making children and teenagers crossdress. Of course, he also makes sexual innuendos involving minors at multiple times.
• An adult woman with oversized breasts who stalks the male protagonist's father and steals his underwear so she can sniff and wear them, who bottles the bathtub water he bathed in, and who literally tries to force a marriage with him
• An adult male who's a siscon and has an unhealthy obsession for the female protagonist, his sister, to a point he'll also bottle her bathtub water, save her chopsticks and even her tissues.
• The four literal manchildren who just look like adults acting like children and constantly talking about poop and penises and who like to relate with each other in homoerotic ways, one of whom seems to have some concerning knowledge of the anatomy of the female reproductive system at such a young age. Of course, they all basically sexually harass the female protagonist because "haha children who look like adults innocently harassing a teenager so funny guys!"

Before you can get any doubts, yes, over half of this anime's comedy revolves around sexual innuendos, and yes, these sexual innuendos almost always involve children, and yes, there are many scenes which would look extremely wrong out of context. What's even worse is that there are some characters who are relatively "normal" (as in, an adult with daddy issues who likes to harass a teenager, or an effeminate guy who everyone laughs at for being a virgin), but all of them allow the fucked up behavior of the rest of the characters, so what you end up with is an anime that tries to convince you that degeneracy by itself is actually funny... it's not.

Naturally, the characters and premise are not the only terrible things in this anime: you've also got the plot, which goes nowhere, like, absolutely nowhere. The best way I can define Hatsukoi Monster's plot is as a merry-go-round powered by the stupidity of a teenage girl who has less socialization skills than a catatonic autistic person who remains in love with AGAIN, A FUCKING CHILD, even when she's shown time and time again that a 10-year-old kid isn't capable of understanding the concept of romance even if he looks like an adult. What I'm trying to get to is that the 12 episodes of this anime might as well be watched in no particular order, because the plot is meaningless, lacks any tension, any seriousness or any point of interest that would make even one-digit percentage of it worth paying attention to. This anime is so boring that you'd probably have much more fun waiting for Pope Francis' corpse to become bloated (spoiler: it likely won't).

Truly, truly I tell you: before the rooster crows, you will have dropped this anime three times, because dropping it once isn't enough of a testament to how bad it is. Animation-wise it is mediocre at best, and the voice acting doesn't save anything because it's more plain than the Mongolian steppe. The only thing that puts it even remotely near the light is its soundtrack, which is mildly ok with its insert songs (even though it mostly repeats the same tracks all the time), but the OP and ED are botched by the first being boringly generic, and the latter being what's probably the best power metal song ever written being desecrated with the worst vocals and lyrics anybody could have possibly come up with.

Really, stay away from this steaming pile of crap. There's absolutely nothing good about it unless you're someone likely to end up in jail for public indecency or worse.

Hatsukoi Monster (My First Love Monster)

Art: The art style in this show is pretty reminiscent of older decades of anime from the early 2000s/1990s, but seems to have a little bit of an updated feel to it, as seen in various characters. The thing to really look at here as a giveaway is the way that the eyes are placed and drawn, especially Kaho’s. The characters, individually, are all really great and the way that Kanade and his friends look makes for some pretty interesting dynamics between them and other kids their age. Each of the characters is easily defined and after an episode or ... two it is easy to remember the differences, even though some of the facial structure and hair is similar. The colors present in the show are really interesting, the way that they use color, or rather an array of colors, to visually describe emotion through Kaho’s eyes, it makes the unspoken bond of the characters much more real.

Sound/Music: When the opening kicks in, it almost seems like the show is about to be set up as an action, but that is really far from the truth. Both the opening and closing animations and the songs really seem out of place, except when being used as a cliff hanger. As for the music within the show, I felt that it was really well done. The light and happy music was pleasing to listen to and never felt repetitive, while the more serious moments knew to keep quiet in most respects. I really enjoy when shows are able to know when it is appropriate to do that sort of thing. Thinking back however, I can’t say I remember a lot of other sound direction, which is too bad; it made me pretty detached from the world of the show.

Story: The story of Hastukoi Monster, in a nutshell, goes like this. Kaho, a first year in high school moving to a new home to be closer to her high school. Upon arrival she nearly gets hit by a truck, but before she could a savior of a man comes and pulls her out of the way, saving her life. She immediately begins to fall in love with her savior but he is relatively uninterested. Yet, the following day she learns that they are living in the same dormitory together. With all the courage she can muster, she confesses her love to this man and he replies that his name is Kanade and he will go out with her. Relieved that she has a boyfriend, Kaho thinks things are about to turn up for her, except for when she finds out that Kanade is a 5th grader who simply looks much older. The narrative continues for 12 episodes and explores Kaho trying to love someone as childish as Kanade while being mature herself. We meet a cast of characters like Kanade’s friends (who also look much older), Kaho’s schoolmates, and even Kaho’s creepy brother. How will Kaho ever make it through with her feelings?

Personal Reflection: Take a breather for this one. I knew what I was getting into when it came to this show. I knew that it was going to be weird and funny and I was expecting that. Sadly it really fell short for me. The fact that there is little to no sound direction that I could speak of outside of the music is a huge disappointment because it is something that I look for in every show I watch. The art is not one of my favorites, but I can make it past that, and even the story was good in some respects, Kaho is really struggling and it makes for an interesting dramatic style. What really killed this show for me was the way Kanade and his friends acted. This might say something about me and how I deal with kids, and I think Kaho shares my feelings, but the way that they act and behave is so juvenile and so childish, it makes the show very hard to watch. I struggled with how the appeared to be adults, but spoke and acted like children (a lot younger than 10 I might add). Then there were the random tangent story lines; like when Kaho goes home and we meet her weird and creepy brother. It felt like they had run out of ideas and had to add another weird and obsessive character, in addition to Kanade’s tutor. So yes, I finished the series, but I am not planning on re-watching it any time soon. If you like immature jokes and an age gap to boot, then check out Hatsukoi Monster. As for me, I’ll pass.

This anime was absolutely appalling.

This was the worst anime I've seen in a very long time, and it's despicable.

At first, I was just looking for a quick anime that I could finish within a small period of time, so I chose this one since it seemed like a comedy plot. However, I was sorely mistaken and this abomination of an anime wasted my time.

STORY: Terrible.

At the beginning, it was kind of like a comedy anime with decent characters, but it evolved into something more horrifying. Seriously, the writers of this show seemed like all they did was slap some penis jokes here and there along ... with a basic, unoriginal, and boring plot line.

ART: Eh.

While I may have not enjoyed the anime itself, the art was actually okay. It wasn't terrible animation and it was pretty smooth for most of the series. The art style wasn't anything special or creative, but it fits the classic anime style decently.

SOUND QUALITY: Okay.

Most of the voice actors playing the character's roles were okay. There were some people who I despised with a passion and I deliberately skipped past parts of scenes because I hated the voices that much.

CHARACTERS: Disgusting.

Bleh. All of the characters had little to none character development throughout the whole twelve episodes of the series. In my opinion, the point of creating a quality character, that person must go through some sort of change that molded them into a better person. This anime; however, barely hit the minimum standards for characters. None of them had any redeeming qualities and I didn't enjoy anyone who starred on this show. The only character that I thought was average was Kouta.

Overall, this anime was beyond disappointing. I expected a good, old fashioned styled shojou anime, but I was met with Teen Titans Go! level of quality.

Don't waste your time on this anime, I made that mistake, and I sincerely regretted my decision.

First things, first. I am a sucker for plotless romances with cute moe girls or even mediocre girls and hot guys. So when i started watching the first episode of this one i knew what i was getting into. Or so i thought.
My expectations: a plotless anime, revolving around a silly romance and some good comedy to pull the whole thing through. Okay, the thing i need in between "serious" animes.
The truth: It was plotless. That's a thing we all agree. And it has comedy. Although i didn't really laugh, 'cause lets be honest. How much can a person laugh with ... penus,butts and poop jokes? Because it was almost the same thing episode in episode out. And the protagonist couple. I liked the looks of Kanade. Yeah that's one hot fella. And pretty mature some times. But when he is supposed to be childish. Oh my god. I hope that real life 5th graders arent like that because humanity will extinct soon. The times i laughed , were not because of the jokes but because of how ridiculously idiotic everyone was. That was not an age matter. No.. Kanade and his friends were plainly stupid, with below than average IQ.

As for Kaho. There are not enough words to describe her. So irritating really. She just gets push over from the others. No real personality there.

The only thing i am enjoying in this anime is the colours and the sometime cute animation. It;s refreshing.


Overall, i would never recomend this anime to anyone except they don't care what the hell they are watching or they are brain dead or something. It really made me wonder how the heck it got serialized, except if the manga isn't so stupid. I dont know.
