Nanatsu no Taizai

This review I'd been wanting to get to for some time now, as I do have loads to say on this anime in particular.
When I first heard about it, it was more or less when it was released on Netflix back when they were heavily marketing their original programming following the release of shows like Bojack Horseman and the Marvel Defenders series.
This was also at a time when Netflix as a streaming service was at the top of it's game in terms of success and quality, before other services that could actually rival it on even ground were introduced.
So when they announced they would start ... streaming original anime, I was curious as to how this 7 Deadly Sins would fair and I started watching it...4 years later, sorry I was busy around that time. Didn't really have time to make a start.
But when I did start watching it, I thought it was...good. Like I knew within the first few episodes it was going more for style over substance and I thought that was totally fine, an anime doesn't have to have a deep message to be good and I thought the 7 Deadly Sins was delivering it's fast paced battles and action really well.
The characters are even well characterised, they're essentially all medieval avengers style superhumans with their own backstories and unique powers who work off each other and supporting characters organically.
So if everything I've said has been good so far, that must mean the anime itself as a whole deserves high praise yes?
Well...not really.
I mean I still consider myself a fan of the show, in fact when Season 5 suddenly appeared on my Netflix account, I took a break from my Dagashi Kashi viewing just to binge watch it over a weekend. But there's one big inherent problem this anime has, and that's the fact it is actually really poorly written.
I did say earlier that it's style over substance isn't an inherently bad thing and I still stand by that, what gets me about the 7 Deadly Sins story is how completely oblivious it is to it's own flaws.
One big example for me is the implementation of Power Levels. Now anyone who knows Shonen writing will know what a power level trope is, it basically takes the skillsets of a character in a story and scales a number to them based on their abilities, like in an RPG or a character card in the vein of Top Trumps. It was Dragonball Z that essentially made this mathematical designation a common narrative aspect when the Z-fighters or their opponents were having their strength compared, and so the 7 Deadly Sins being a Shone inspired story, it includes this idea. Only it's treat with the utmost seriousness to the point where it loses any real meaning.
Whenever a character gets a character boost, another character will almost certainly say "Their power level is almost 5.1 squintillion" or whatever, and it just leaves you with the question, "well what does that mean?". All you've basically said is a number and we're supposed to feel something about that as the audience.
It comes to a level of ridiculousness when it starts getting applied to characters with almost godly levels of strength and ends up undermining their threat. There's two high ranking demons introduced later in the story who are basically viziers to the demon king himself and their power levels are said to be at "200,000". But I just ended up thinking, "oh that's fine then, all we need is someone with a power level of 200,001 and they'll be no problem".
It concepts like this and the fact that new characters, good and bad, are just introduced at the drop of a hat without real build up and character backstories are retconned more times than a convention for renewable energy fans got me to the conclusion that the story felt like a story campaign in Dungeons and Dragons that has gone on too long and the Dungeon Master was having trouble coming up with ways to raise the stakes as it went on, resulting in something that is actually funny to pick apart but difficult to take seriously in any capacity, no matter how much the show itself tries to.
Despite that all that though, I would still say it's worth a look if you're just after a brainless explosion fest of action with some decent characterisation.

The concept of the Seven Deadly Sins in anime is nothing new, however Nanatsu No Taizai adds an interesting twist to it. It completely reverses the idea of the Seven Deadly Sins and uses it in interesting ways. The character's personalities do not reflect the sins they each represent, but their past does. However, most characters are forgettable and one-dimensional. None of these characters feel like they could be actual people personality wise, they're all walking talking fucking archetypes that don't develop in any way. The only decent character is Ban, who actually has different layers of his personality, an interesting background, and other goals ... than just reclaiming the kingdom. The music is fantastic and the action scenes, while not anything special, are pretty entertaining. However, without good characters to carry the series forward, it shows you all the worst of the shonen genre with not enough positives to make up for it.

"Nanatsu no Taizai" seemed quite promising, having characters on the cover of the anime that looked colorful and diverse, like any successful Shounen anime that aired... but after watching this season, i felt that there were a number of things that was lacking in the show. Hence, my rating of the show overall had dropped to a 6, even when i first thought that it might actually be worth a 9 or 10 with its current popularity.

Story: 6
I found myself quite interested in some of the backstories of the Sins, such as Ban and King's. They were well written imo, but the fights in the ... show were quite a letdown to me. I felt that they do not actually have a very big twist, and the outcome for almost all fights are quite predictable. After going through a few battles at the beginning, I am almost certain that the protagonists’ side will always win by some means, and it always involves a new ability that would come as a surprise to the audience every time. Too many of these surprises made the show repetitive to me, and the show seemed less appealing to me as a result.

Art: 7
Although the colors used by A-1 Pictures were rich and very consistently presented throughout the world that Nanatsu no Taizai takes place in, the same cannot be said for the animations used for each characters’ unique skills in battle. Powers harnessed by each of the major characters in the show do not seem impressive enough in the aesthetic sense, and they do not actually feel truly special to any one of the characters. The attacks always seem to look the same to me, always accompanied by a flash of white light followed by a huge lump of debris being thrown about. (e.g. Gil’s lightning attacks feel almost the same with every strike, regardless of how differently he says it; the lightning animation is always the same, making the attacks and fights seem really bland and boring.)

Sound: 8
The music was pretty decent! OST sounded good (especially Perfect Time), and the 2nd Opening was a nice shounen tune to hype me up for the episodes. MAN WITH A MISSION does a good job.

Character: 6
When Meliodas started to hunt down his former comrades, I thought that it was going to be promising when it started off by meeting Ban and Diane. Altho Diane's lines were pretty disappointing and somewhat cheesy, Ban's backstory and lines were pretty smooth. But after seeing Gowther and Merlin, they just seemed like they were having different personalities just for the sake of being different members of the group. Although they do seem like characters with some depth, I feel like they had way more potential than this, and that their characters weren't as nicely fleshed out as someone like Ban. King was pretty decent tho. Hopefully we will see some more development in the ongoing Season 2.

Enjoyment: 4
This was pretty saddening for me. The show came strong with its first 5-6 episodes and got me hooked, but the premise of the show started to get pretty boring. The main antagonist for the season turned out to be someone that didn't get developed well in the season, with the help of only a handful of short flashbacks to get to know the dude. I found myself more interested in finding out who the next member of the Sins was and their backstories, and didn't really enjoy the rest of the season after that.

With all that negative stuff being said, I still feel that Nanatsu no Taizai wields the influence of a Shounen genre heavyweight and rightfully so, even being one of the more happening series in WSM. It just isn't an objectively good anime in my opinion, and dulls in comparison to some other Shounen shows that i happen to watch.

Story:

Overall this is a good show. The story is a little by the numbers though and there are quite a few beats where you'll be left scratching your head at how convoluted some things can be. Overall though its and enjoyable enough story, just very underwhelming and not really anything to write home about. If you're looking for an anime to watch and turn your brain off, this is (mostly) the show you're looking for. Plus its on netflix (which most people have) so its easy to get a hold of and binge without having to worry about subpar subs or dubs.

I just wish ... that the sins werent so heavily established as being absurdly OP. It takes a lot of tension out of most of the fights. Even at the end when they fight whats basically the devil it becomes hard to think that meliodas or the sins are going to lose. Though admittedly that issue is mostly fixed towards the end when it starts to look like the sins are capable of losing. Which happens more than you would think based off of the first few episodes. Also there are a few too many unresolved plot lines and unanswered questions for a 24 episode series for my liking. But luckily it (mostly) doesnt take away from your enjoyment while watching the show. Just while thinking about it

Art:

Its good. Lots of fun, action, and the character designs really stand out. its all pretty well animated. My only gripe with the character designs however do have to do with the minor characters. They all look very drab and basic compared to the Sins. So much so that it sort of helps with the story at some times. In particular, the main villain(s). They just look so basic and uniteresting that you wont realize that their the villain until its made very obvious that they are. Which helps, but at the same point, certainly does the story no favors, as it makes the villains seem forgettable. Which I would argue isnt exactly a bad thing, if the show were shorter. With a show's arc running over 13 episodes, I would argue that the villains need to have more substance to them. But that might just be me.

Sound:

Sounds good. Neat music, basic enough score. Moving on.

Character:

6 out of the 8 main characters are pretty dope characters. Diane is adorable but not overly so where she becomes annoying or is made into a damsel. The princess isnt exactly going to be a feminist icon but her goals are made clear and she is very relatable overall. King has got to hit way too close to home for lots of weebs and neckbeards that will watch the show, but not in an overly cringey way, certainly not in an unhealthy way. Ban at first seems incredibly annoying but by the time you learn his backstory and his cooking skills get rid of one of the most annoying running gags in the series you'll learn to love him too. And Gowther seems like they could be a great LGBT character, though I wish they were given more backstory (more than what we got anyway) so maybe in season 2 (which just started airing at the time of my writing this review). And Merlin, while having an overly fanservicey design still has an intruging air of mystery about her to make watching her interesting. Though I certainly wish that we would get more of her (looks like we will in season 2). Even some of the minor characters, despite having mostly dull designs are incredibly well developed and fleshed out. It leaves you wanting to root for them.

But there are two massive issues with the show, and they are two of the main three characters that we follow through most of the series! bwah bwahhhhhhh. Meliodas is wayyyyy too overpowered. Like. Stupidly so. At first you think it might be fun to watch like in One Punch Man or Mob Psycho 100. But nope. Its everything that people think One Punch Man would be when they heard the pitch. The fight scenes involving him are robbed of all tension, and its just annoying. Plus he's a massive perv. Which they try to play off as cute, but despite his 12 year old body, he's still like forty or some shit. Probably way older. Just makes me hate him more. Also he keeps secrets from his best friends for little to no reason. Hes an awful leader. Ask anyone who has held a job for more than a month. Good leaders communicate. Meliodas doesnt communicate. He just asks and takes. He sucks and I hate him.

The other massive issue with the show is the pig, Hawk. He's not cute. He's annoying AF. He constantly tries to be endearing but it jsut doesnt pay off. None of his jokes land. He's like if your 14 year old cousin's instagram account was made into an anime talking pig. It especially sucks when they try to make him into the emotional core of the show. It just takes you out of it completely and there were several parts thoughout the end of the show where my eyes rolled so far into the back of my head I could see into my skull and see the aneurism that this stupid fucking pig was giving me.

Enjoyment:

I enjoyed everything but the pig, meliodas, and the lack of stakes as a result of meliodas or my hatred for said pig.

Overall:

6/10
Would recommend, but only to those such as myself who also have no lives and are free to complain about pigs in a japanese cartoon on an internet forum post that nobody will ever read. Or if you want to get fucking drunk while binging an anime. (Take a drink everytime meliodas or one of the sins is stupid OP, only rule)

I didn’t enjoy this show, but it had some redeeming qualities. The best way I can put it is that The Seven Deadly Sins is like a strawberry smoothie with a little mucus mixed in. Ban and Gilthunder and King’s past are some of the absolute best things about this show. I enjoyed the slow development of who the big bad bosses really were and some information about Meliodas’ true origin. Fight scenes are nicely-executed as well.

However, I was really turned off by the copious blood vomits/spit-takes (it's like the blood spews out in two forms: bite-sized nuggets and water hose pressure DX), Meliodas’ ... gropey-grabby hands (the fanservice feels icky and too contrived; sorry not sorry), and Elizabeth’s utter uselessness (I swear her personality is “best girl”; I don’t care too much about moe chicks). The piggy character runs its mouth too much for me, but it fulfilled the animal sidekick role well enough.

Now, I love romance as I’m always reading a good shoujo, but I didn’t care for Elizabeth’s undying love for our golden boy. I actually preferred Ban’s thinly-developed love more even though I can’t stand lolicon stuff.
The story moved too slowly in certain episodes before picking up an exciting pace toward the 20’s.

MISC: ANIMATION, VOICE ACTING
As far as the English dub, I thought the voices were good. I think each voice fit its character well though Elizabeth’s voice is sickly sweet and her crying leaves a lot to be desired.

The animation is very fluid and smooth, but some of the bodies look weirdly proportionate (i.e Griamore and Elizabeth).

The music is beautiful and empathy-inducing.

OVERALL:
Is it worth watching? For me, I would’ve dropped this show much quicker if it weren’t for Ban and the interesting build-up to a satisfying end. But for something I found on Netflix, it is pretty entertaining. For all its stupid moments, there is a lot of heart, great characters, and foreshadowing. Give it a try!

I do NOT want to waste my time with a colossal review, so I'll just make it quick.

To be honest, when i first watched nanatsu I really liked it, but after growing up a little (6 years can really make a change) I saw that it is mediocre. not bad to the point of being funny, just... meh... now let's get to the topics.

The perfect description of the plot is mediocre, now let's not get mad, 13y/o who praise kirito and think that sexual harassment is something to make fun of (meliodas, i'm looking at you) Now i'm not gonna lie, the way that the ... autor insert the mysteries and even the worldbuilding are pretty well done, and it reaches what it intend to, but the story itself is just weak and impersonal, maybe little kids can relate to the flashy powers and the "LoOk HoW i'M bAdAsS" quotes (yes, I'm talking about Escanor), but I simply can't.

You have the OP MC, the drunken badass first hand man, the too-good-to-be-true 16 year old that falls in love with the man that touches her body without permission... (Stockholm syndrome?) The jealous tsundere, the smart and stoic character with glasses, the smart and mature hot woman (and of course I'm talking about Nico Ro- Merlin) and the badass motherfucker. you can argue that "they have unique traits" and yes, they have, but they are still just superficial characters based on the well-known shounen stereotypes. they don't feel real, they dont feel like Characters, most of them are just plot tools that pretty much doesn't contribute to the personal side of the story.

I'm gonna be fair with the anime on the enjoyment part, I really didn't enjoy myself that much, but I can see new anime fans having fun with it.

That's pretty much it, I used to criticize this kind of series much more, but now i just don't have the energy to hate on them everytime.

I've been a fan of The Seven Deadly Sins for about 5 years now. The first and second arcs are my favorite, as the fights, character development, and foreshadowing are engaging.

One thing I think people should know before jumping into this show is that the plot sucks.

By that, I mean the plot is shounen plot, y'know? Very easy to understand, a couple of plot-holes, etc.

The real strength of this show is the characters. Nakaba Suzuki, the creator, has a way of portraying characters that you don't often see in shounen, especially battle shounen.

He uses the idea of the 7 sins, (Lust, wrath, pride, etc) ... to complement each of the character's sins and personalities. The backstories are tragic and relate to their character arcs, and the interactions and chemistry of the cast are entertaining.

The soundtrack has some catchy tunes, like "Perfect Time". The openings are all solid, and the endings in this anime are some of my favorites.

It's a fun adventure for this arc, and the animation works well with the fight scenes and strange outfits.

Honestly, it's fairly average, but that doesn't mean it's not enjoyable to watch. I reccomend watching it.

It wasn't anything special, relied on plot convenience and the pacing was poor past the tournament arc. Power scaling wasn't anything great either, Meliodas pretty much steamrolled the entire cast.

It's pretty good, but there isn't anything to say apart from that.

It's pretty much what fixes the show together. The story isn't plot driven as it is character driven. Lord Twigo-sama was a fantastic antagonistic force from the shadow the entire time.

It was fine. Twigo carried.

It isn't a show you have to watch absolutely, if you like fan service go ahead I think.

This is just not doing it for me. The plot itself is very interesting, but the execution is just not that good.
The characters, aside from their personal quirks, I don't really get much of personalities or care very much for them.
Not really much of a world-building aside from a few things about the lore. The towns that they went into didn't have personalities either and the design for the buildings is pretty much the same, so nothing feels new and exciting in their journey.
The animation is not on par with other seasonal action-adventure animes I had watched. Maybe it's my fault for having ... high expectations for such a hyped series, but in the end, I didn't like the animation that much.
Also, I might be the only one who didn't like Ban and Elaine as a couple. But they looked like a twenty years old dating a toddler. It's just very disturbing. I get that loli is a big thing in Japan, and usually, I don't mind it. But in this anime, Ban physically looked so much older than her and I just can't handle it.
The voice acting (the Japanese one) is the only positive thing in my experience. I think the voices fit the characters really well.

This isn't very good. Everything is so bland, uninspired and mediocre. Like a puzzle with lots of mediocre pieces that fit together to create an average shonen. Through and through, this is shonen junk food you need only to turn your brain off and watch. Nothing here is interesting and it manages to pull so many character and genre tropes and clichés that its borderline cringe. It's very telling when the MC (Meliodas) is one of the most bland and boring characters in the show. He's just really strong and that's it. The other sins aren't much better. Every character in this show lacks any ... sort of character depth or complexity. The humour isn't very good as well, and it beats its own jokes and gags to death. Even the animation is just OK. Very disappointing show.

Look, I will start with the bad to be able to move on to the good of this series, the bad is more than logical and it is the sexualization of the girl who is a bone princess Elizabeth, I will always feel uncomfortable in the question of how they treat them (touching her breasts and the girl's butt), some will find it funny but it just makes me uncomfortable. Second point is that some characters fall in love with some girls that look like a girl. Look at this. I'm sure that in Japanese culture it's not that rare, but for me it makes ... me a bit uncomfortable (actually I think that the author shows his fetishes with this), another point that I did not like was that of magic here it does not make any sense that if I start to delve deeper into the subject I would stay writing for a long time all the bad things about it.
After saying the bad, I also want to say that it is a quite interesting story, the characters are very nice and I think that each one has a very marked personality that you could easily distinguish between them without any problem, I also think that the story is self-conclusive from start to finish. This season and it doesn't leave so many loose ends.
If you have the opportunity, see it, it's not bad, if you like fighting animes that have an impact, you'll like this anime, don't expect a super revolutionary work because you won't find it, it's entertaining, but everything bad that I said before is true, besides that at the end of the season they bring out a deus ex machina that I didn't understand at all but it still doesn't make it a bad ending, it's just as satisfying but with that mistake.

Miren empezare con lo malo para poder pasar con lo bueno de está serie, lo malo es mas que lógico y es la sexualisación de la chica que es una princesa ósea Elizabeth yo siempre me sentiré incomodo en la cuestión de como las tratan (tocándole los senos y el trasero de la chica), a algunos les parecerá divertido pero a mi solo me da incomodidad. Segundo punto y es que algunos personajes se enamoran de unas chicas que parece una niña que miren esto estoy segura que en la cultura de Japón no es tan raro pero para mi si me genera un poco de incomodidad (en realidad pienso que el autor demuestra sus fetiches con esto), otro punto que no me gusto fue lo de la magia aquí no tiene nada de sentido que si me pongo a profundizar mas en el tema me quedaría escribiendo por muchísimo rato todo lo malo que tiene.
Tras decir lo malo también quiero decir que es una historia bastante interesante, los personajes son muy simpáticos y creo que cada uno tiene una personalidad muy marcada que podrías distinguirlos fácilmente sin ningún problema, también la historia creo que de inicio a fin es auto conclusiva en está temporada y no deja tantos cabos sueltos.
Si tiene la oportunidad véanla no es mala, si te gustan los animes de peleas que impactan este anime te agradara, no esperes una obra super revolucionaria porque no lo encontraras, es entretenida pero eso si todo lo malo que dije con anterioridad es cierto ademas que al final de la temporada se sacan un deus ex machina que no entendí para nada pero aun así no lo hace un final malo, es igual de satisfactorio pero si con ese error.

I will admit that the two things that lured me to try to watch this were these two focal points:

- My special interest for the concept of the Seven Deadly Sins.
- Medieval Fantasy Shenanigans.

So with that kind of mentality, I dived myself into something I expected to adore, or at least enjoy a little. That was a case for the first few episodes. I loved some of the characters to bits, but I couldn't get myself to continue watching the show with the excessive amount of blatant fanservice, (Dirty jokes, panty shots, etc).

There were a few more things I didn't like, for example how poorly ... fleshed out other characters were, but I have to admit the art style and general colorfulness of the world were one of the few things that helped me drag along for a few more episodes until I gave up.

If you can keep up with the dirty jokes and how some characters seem to exist only to either be made fun of or be the audience's eye candy, You should try to watch it, but I couldn't.

This show for all its flaws started out I think well, was never going to win any awards or go down in history as a landmark series, but it was some simple, fun escapism and that has its place.
But as the show went on it got worse and worse.


The Seven Deadly Sins I would rate 6.5/10
Introduces a few core characters, sets the premise of the world with the different races and magical abilities. Often over the top pervy and/or cringe inducing writing were a weak point but was defintly fun to watch

... Revival of The Commandments I would rate 7/10
Follows a similar formula to the first season, introduces more of the seven deadly sins aswell as the commandments, a more powerful enemy that had been alluded to in the first season. Again it's script left a lot to be desired but as some dumb aciton packed fun I for one enjoyed it


Wrath of the Gods I would rate 4/10
This is where the show really started to disintigrate. Like I have mentioned the writing was always a weak point but it is glaringly poor in this season. The bulk of this season revolves around "training" kind and diane. How are they trained? well they are sent back in time to relive a few hours in the perspectives of drole and gloxinia. This doesnt tell us anything we dont already know, it reminds us how poor drole's character is because his entire reason for betraying his entire species and the world as a whole is simply because he felt like it after losing 1 fight.

All of those episodes are cemented as a complete waste of screen time because somehow it works and makes king and diane stronger but that is never explained. How the hell does king and diane living their predeccesors failings translate to king and dianes own bodies in the modern day becoming stronger? It's just so lazy and nonsensicle, even for a show where a fairy is in love with a giant this season's writing is outright idiotic.

Dragon's Judgement I would rate a 2/10. So bad I would advise to not even bother watching this part
The company literally could not have given us a more dissapointing end than this. I do not know the inner workings of the company who made the anime nor have I read the manga, so I do now know if the studio was working with s*** material or if for some reason they were forced. But whatever the resaon the end result is that 3 huge story arcs are crammed into 1 season. Each one of those arcs could easily have been their own stand alone seasons to really unfold the events but instead we got 3 huge arcs crammed into 1 season and the inevitble reasult is that none of them got the attention they deserved and all of them were absolutely dog s***. I could write a 900 page book on the faults in this season but here are a few that come to mind as I write this

1: Power scaling is obscene, it always has been, but this season took it beyond a joke
- Ban became more powerful by spending hundreds upon hundreds of years in purgatory/ Escanor went all out by sacrifcing his very life force.......then we have king, in the previous season he powered up by effectively dreaming he was gloxina for a few hours and in the final season when everyone else is sacrifcing themselves to gain power king unlocks his final form, guess how? by doing absolutely, literally nothing whatsoever. He is falling through the air after being beaten and as he falls he says he wants more power to protect people and boom, jsut like that with no training, no practice, no effort king is now infintely stronger than he was before

- Meliodas was the demon kings chosen vessel. Meliodas was in the cocoon for his body to absorb the commandments and prepare for the transformation. When the demon king took his body, Ban single handedly fought the demon king, who was at maybe 95% power and Ban held his own while everyone else stood and watched or acted as a cheerleader inside meliodas' head. YET when an already beaen down, weakened demon king inhabited Zeldris body it took the combined force of all the seven deadly sins and it took escanor sacrifcing his own life..........How does that make any sense whatsoever? Full powered demon king in his prepared, chosen vessel gets handled by Ban. Demon king who in his own words was not "accustomed" to zeldris body and was nowhere near full power requires all of the seven deadly sins to bring down. It is completely braindead writing

- Ludociel was the leader of stigma and supposedly the greatest the goddes race had to offer. When he was in margarets body he was pathetic, he got smacked around by zeldris like he was a regular human yet when he was expelled and had to use his own body ( a body we had specifically been told would be weakened) he was able to go toe to toe withthe original demon using only one hand

- Humans. At the end of season1 we saw humans being slaughtered by demons. But in season 2 we saw some of the holy knights improving and being able to take down demons, yet in the final season any shred of power humans had vanishes with no explanation. Gilthunder who had always been strong ( relative to his race) was so utterly pathetic, that he griamore and howzer were embarassed by a mortal, powerless, terminally ill escanor holding a wooden shield

2: Dissapointing characters
- Chandler single handedly manhandled the entire seven deadly sins. In this season we see him fusing with Cusack to return to his original form. A form powerful enough to challenge the demon king himself, a form so powerful that when the usually stoic Merlin saw it she said " it's over we cant possibly win" and what happens? Mael, who had not fully recovered after expelling the commandments throws the original demon away with a single attack and that's the end of that. One of the most foreboding and supposedly menacing enemies ever introduced in the show and he is swatted away by a weakened character and puts up no fight whatsoever.

3: The dumbest writing I personally have ever witnessed.

- Angels and vessels. First we are told the angels need vessels to exist in the earhtly realm, but at the end of the previous season sariel and tarmiel give up their vessels and experience no down side to doing so. Ludociel who suffered no severe injuries was for some reason on his death bed after demon king had been expelled from meliodas, despite him being an arachangle and surrounded by mael and elizabeth, both of whom have immense healing abilities ludociel died and the only conclusion we are left to draw is that the reason he died despite not suffering any injuries was because he was in the human realm without a vessel. However this still doesnt make sense because Mael spent 100% of his time on earth without a host and he was still the strongest angel around.


-Merlin's "story". After wathcing ths bad ass, unmatched, cunning mage for 3 seasons we finally get to find out more about her motivations and top to bottom it is so bad that blind gibbons could have wrote a more compelling story. First we find out that she is in love with meliodas, something we have known since sesaon 2 when merlin specifically said that in an episode ending scene, so how it was supposed to be a "surprise" to us in the final season makes no sense. Secondly we find out that all along she has only been using the sins and doesnt actually care about any of them, and guess what? yet again this doesnt make sense. She loved meliodas but he didnt return her feelings so she spent the next 3,000 goddamn years acting like a child and manipulating everyone around her and what did her new end goal turn into ? she decided she would handle not being with meliodas by training some random naive teenager and then awakening a force so powerful that it could literally destory all of existence......Can anyone explain what the writer was even going for here? How does beating the demon king only to purposel replace him with a bigger threat make sense? How does becoming a teacher to some random child replace the romantic feelings she has? How did a cunning, calculting magician spend 3,000 years and not mature at all?

- After Gustaf died we saw jericho awakening the same ice powers her brother wielded, this scene took place as there was a voice over talking about people awakening new abilities and new beginnings. This was never touched upon again, jericho was demoted to a background character and even when she was in the show not once did we see her use any form of magic. It was a specific plot point to show us awakening her latent abilities but then the entire rest of the show she uses a sword ( not very well at that) so the entire sequence of her abilities was compeltely pointless

- Mael cast a spell on Oslo and Deriere to "invite" them to reincarnate while retaining their memories. This was framed to look like a good deed, but it was a horrible form of torture. Firstly t means that oslo would reincarnate, probably as a human and he would be trying to lead a human life with a head full of 3,000 years worth of memories of living as a floating, teleporting, magical dog. Secondly Derieri would reincarnate and she would remember monspeet and how she never recognized his feelings until it was too late, so she would be born and from the moment of birth she would be doomed to pine over a love that she will now never be able to make up for


-Cath, when arthurs "story" happens we are told that "chaos" is a sentient being, that it created all of existence, including the goddess and demon race, we then find out that Caith somehow stole a portion of chaos' power. Here we are yet again, this makes no sense. There are only 2 possibilities. 1: Chaos created cath and cath stole some power, but this would not be an issue because cath only had a minute portion of chaos power so chaos could easily just absorb cath. 2: The writing is so poorly done that the writer instantly retconned his own tale and changed the lore so that Chaos wasnt the only thing in existence before the realms were created, there were 2 beings, a non physical omnnipotent sentient being ( chaos) and a weird transforming cat creature

- Nanshi. We find out that he is another fallen angel, and thats it, thats all we find out. One of the coolest characters in the show, someone different to every other character, a foreign warrior weilding a sword and a fight style different to the setting of the story, we learn that he actually isnt human at all and the writer does literally nothing with this. " yeah, you know that badass samurai character that got caught up in all the drama? well he's an angel, deal with it". It is a complete waste, he became a teacher,mentor and ally to arthur there were so much potential to make his goddess past a factor.

- Back to Arthur's story as a whole. His story was wrapped up in just 3 episodes, a vital development in the story, one that in my opinion completely ruined the character of merlin was squeezed into 3 episodes and we didnt even get a conclusion. Arthur was forced into becoming a host for the most unpredictible and powerful threat in the entire seven deadly sins lore, he absorbs a primordial being that makes the force inside him even more dangerous and thats all we get. We see him approaching a destroyed landscape and thats all she wrote. No foreshadowing, no hinting, no passing remark from characters in the final episode, just nothing. 3 epsiodes inthe final ever season of the show are dedicated specifically to arthur but the story goes absolutely nowheere and we the viewers are left wondering why the studio wasted their money and our time by even making those episodes because they are wholely irrelevant


- The pig. I will start this point by saying I dont even like hawk, he is like happy in fairy tail, not funny, not endearing, just high pitched and annoying. However this is yet another way the writing was god awful. In the final season the pig finds out that he was born in purgatory, that he has a brother who has spent the equivalence of 8 million years ( those were wild's own words in the dub) in purgatory looking for hawk *and* on top of that the creature he thought was his mother was just a shell holding the greatest threat to ever exist and what happens? yet again absolutely nothing, hawk see's his "mom" disintegrate and he has less of a reaction than when i spill a glass of water. Then the show ends with hawk cheerfully and willingly going to purgatory despite knowing how volatile it is and with no plan to get back. So this useless pig who had spent every single episode being entirely dependant on meliodas to do anything at all suddenly does a complte 180% on his entire personality and chooses to go and exist in an unforgiving hellscape with no means of ever returning.


- Gowther. Gowther is the most evil character in the show, maybe not intentionally, but he is responsible for almost every single bad thing that happens. He is responsible for the holy war being put on hold in such a poor manner, he is responsible for mael/estarossa and the countless deaths resulting from that, he is responsible for all the souls the commandments ate after they were unsealed, he deliberaly brainwashed Guila to make her "love" him and even made her forget her own brother, he deliberatly erased diane's memory sabotaging the bond between her and king. Whether it be directly or indirectly almost every death, fight, war, disaster, soul eating that happens in the course of the show were caused by gowther yet he is never held accountable. King is angry at him when he erases diane's memory but as always nothing happens, king acts all pouty around gowther but does nothing and then a few episodes later king is ready to risk his life for this worthless, soulless doll . I know the whole theme of the show is basically fairy tail meets king arthur, its all about the "power of friendhsip" but seeing as gowther is so tightly wound up in every bad thing we see unfold it just feels empty that he is forgiven without question time and time again just because he too was recruited by meliodas.




I could go on and on but this is already way too long for anyone to ever read, but it really is such a shame. A dumb but endearing and fun show completely ruined by 2 seasons so bad they genuinelly could not have been handled any worse and again I do not know if the fault lies with the anime studio or the author of the manga but the writing in the final 2 seasons was so bad that if I were to ever talk to anyone about this show I would tell them to stop watching after Revival of the commandments. Everything after that point is a disservice to the show, the dumbest power scaling in anime history, the most inconsistent characters, the most nonsensicle motivations, the most flaccid finale and all around just a pathetic, pathetic showing

Review : To me this anime is more than only mediocre, not bad but not that amazing. Honestly i still can enjoy and maybe at the point enjoy this anime, the story is simple and can predictable clearly what will happen at the end. The fight scene overral good, still can enjoyable for me. For the graphic i think there is no problem. For the soundtrack and BGM thats good and fit, i can enjoy it much for some reason.
There is nothing special to me for ... this anime, nothing that make me can always remeber this anime for long time, i can say that cause this anime is 5 first anime that i watch, only that.
For the story like i say before, its average but not mainstream not anti mainstream, mediocre but still can enjoyed. What i get when watch this anime (season 1) is for gather the group again and greeting for the enemy. long enough 1 season 24 episode for greetings. So thats it what i get and my review. At the point this anime (this season) is mediocre but you can still enjoy it.

The Seven Deadly Sins is quite honestly the worst well-known shounen I've ever seen.
The Shounen Info Dumping aside, the fights and world building often seem like they are trying to insult the viewers intelligence. There is always a secrete move/power that the viewer doesn't know about, so there is no reason for the fight to even exist since you know exactly how every fight is going to end. Characters are so invincible to the point where it's actually hilarious, this doesn't only apply to the main characters but almost everyone. There are no stakes. The plot is way too simple and really unintriguing since everything ... seems like it was made up on the spot anyway which made me lose all interest especially towards the end.
Only giving this a 6 because it's sometimes enjoyable if you want to watch something while turning your brain off.

So, everybody around me was talking about this.
My big issue with this anime and some others in the same spirit is the ecchi-ness of it.

It feels like new animes aren't good enough to attract people with a good storyline so they throw a bunch of boobs and ass here and there.

Honestly, I'd even prefer a filler episode to "compensate" the basic storyline and learn about some character's background, it might even add something to the lore.
But no, you get Ecchi all the way. Why ? Is it relevant ? Who cares ?
I mean, this is like getting your girlfriend at a ... family dinner and talk about how good she is in bed lmao.

Otherwise it's an OK anime, made me think of OnePiece and other well-known masterpieces but in a way cheaper way.

This anime becomes worse and worse every season!
It started with some potential, it runs around dark ages so things should be serious. I am not convinced with how the main characters win their battles.
The villains were cool in my opinion but somehow at the end they break down as the main characters come with power idk from where.
the second season was more exciting but then things started getting messy with power of friendship saving the main characters all the time.
I also dislike the romance in this anime with all couples being a bad match in my opinion. Romance in this anime even ... ruined some of the villains for me!

50 First Dates meets Supernatural: The Anime
Unfortunately, the show is kinda good. If any real studio took control it would have been a lot better. All fight scenes leave a lot to be desired, even the "good ones". The uninteresting characters are focused on way too much, while the interesting ones are left to brood somewhere in the background. It gets entirely way to repetitive with the "I'll protect those who are precious to me." This show harps on that almost as much as other animes I've seen combined, and that's saying something. It took way too long for Escanor to join the squad. Wtf ... is season 2. Always in situations like this I wish I knew how true to heart the anime is to the manga, because my instincts tell me both are to blame. It succeeds more as a comedy than an action, and it's rarely ever laugh out loud funny.
tl;dr More focus on fight scene animation and length, less flashbacks, less Protecting Loved One virtue signaling (because 90% of the time they don't actually protect anything), it very well would have been a 9/10.

The anime is your typical shounen that's fun and entertaining with a strong opening and an all in all good story. However, as cute and strong as Meliodas is his constant groping and sexualization of Elizabeth is disturbing and nauseating. The other jokes in the anime so far have been either funny or generally acceptable but the humor regarding his relationship with her really reinforces very perverted ideas about how guys can treat girls and that it should be okay as long as the guy is the protagonist or if he has other good qualities. It's not. What he does is not okay. The fact ... that she always accepts DOES NOT MEAN she's okay with, she's just written to be an agreeable and rather weak-willed character. I'm really hoping this aspect of the anime changes or is obliterated in later episodes. I'm up to episode 14 and am enjoying the anime as a whole.
