Tales of Gekijou is a 5-part anime series that features chibi-like versions of many Tales of Series. And, if you haven't guessed by now, I'm a HUGE fan of the Tales of Series. And if you don't know what the Tales of Series is, it's a RPG game series that mainly come on the PS systems, but, there are some exceptions of them being on Nintendo and XBOX systems, like Tales of the Abyss, Symphonia and Vesperia. Of course, if
...
you don't access to play any of the games, there are manga and anime adaptions of the games, if you're interested in them, these including Abyss, Phantasia, Symphonia, Vesperia the First Strike, and the latest, Zestiria the X. Anyways, Tales of Gekijou is a just a cute little series of chibi Tales of Characters, and their adorable little missions. And I'm not just talking about Luke and Guy from TotA, We're talking Guy, Luke and Yuri all on a cute, little nonsense adventure.
Just like every other Tales of Series that I've gotten into, my friend showed me tales of Gekijou a couple weeks after she finished her copy of Tales of Vesperia. I had just recently watched "Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike." We also had both just bought our own 3DS copies of Tales of the Abyss, so we knew just about the main characters of the series. So my friend comes to me one morning before first period, and tells me that she found a really cute Tales of Series on Youtube. And the best part is, we knew some of the characters. So that morning, we watched all 5 episodes of Tales of Gekijou, and we loved it. Even though we didn't know some of the characters, like Asbel from Tales of Graces, we still enjoyed it a lot. And to be honest, this is the kind of series that makes you want to play the series you haven't gotten a chance to. But anyways, enough ranting about how much I like the series, on with the review! Hope you like it!
WARNING! THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS..... EH..... ACTUALLY NOT REALLY....YOU CAN WATCH IT WITHOUT ANY TALES SERIES KNOWLEDGE...
Story: 10/10
Yep, we're starting with big 10 for the series already. Here's the thing about Tales of Gekijou: Its kinda like Nichijou; it doesn't really have a story, but that's what makes it special. It's kinda like if you chibified a bunch of really serious characters, amplified their quirks by at least 10, and put them into more simple situations. That's basically Tales of Gekijou for you. It's more of a cute comedy, rather than some really intense action-adventure-drama anime that brings you to tears near the end, like just about every other Tales of Series you find. But hey, the cute things are really good, so story gets 10/10.
Art: 10/10
To be honest, there isn't much explaining to express how much I love the art style of this series. I mean, admit it, you can't give anything less than a 10 for chibi-styled characters. No more to be said, the art deserves a 10/10.
Sound: 8/10
Okay, confession time: I can't really remember what the soundtrack sounded like. I mean, I have a fair idea what they might sound like, but for once, I didn't really pay attention to the soundtrack. Whoops ^^... Maybe because I was paying attention to te characters more? I was laughing too hard? The series wasn't long enough for me to pay attention to the music like most animes? I'm not sure, I just really can't remember what the series soundtrack was like. I'm sure it was really good, seeing that mainly every Tales of Series' soundtracks are really good, so I'm pretty sure this was really good. Again, curse my stupid memory, so this gets a 8/10
Characters: 10/10
As you all should know by now, I really LOVE the Tales Series. And the more you get to know the different series, the more you get attached to the characters. And seeing that I at least know most of characters, means I know mainly what they're about, and how relatable they can be. Which means when you see Yuri, Guy, and Luke abandoned in an a forest, alone to fend for themselves, you can kinda guess what silly and random things might happen with the three of them. The characters have even more quirk than they do in their original series, since they really don't have to worry about any major issues from their series. But even so, I noticed they added some of the characters from Tales of Graces, like Asbel and Cheria, and even though I haven't played the game or read the manga, I still really liked the scenes with them in it, and it really wanted me to play the game even more than I did before. The characters of Tales of Gekijou are kinda like a sneak peek to the different Tales of series, making you laugh, get to know them, and want to play their games even more. So basically, the characters get a 10/10.
Enjoyment/General: 10/10
In general, I really loved Tales of Gekijou, just like every other Tales of Series. Its an adorable little comedy for any Tales of fan, or any person that at least has a little interest in any of the series at all. Just like the mobile game "Tales of Link," Tales of Gekijou is kind of like your introductory to some Tales of games that gets really interested in the characters, and make you want to play the series you haven't seen even more. And it's not like you need very much knowledge on any of the other games, I don't know the characters from Graces of Destiny that well, but that doesn't mean you won't like them. It's a really good series, and, just like every other Tales of Series, I recommend it to anyone, at least give the Tales of Series a try, and if you don't like it, it's ok, I'm not going to judge you. I'm just saying you should give it a try, it doesn't matter which one you start out with (*cough cough* ABYSS*cough cough*), but anyways... There's nothing else to say about this review, so I'm going to wrap it up here.
