Tatoeba Last Dungeon Mae no Mura no Shounen ga Joban no Machi de Kurasu Youna Monogatari

A long time ago, the ancient saviors of humanity founded a village as their haven, with their descendants said to assist humanity in times of extreme chaos. This village, Kunlun, is located just beside the infamous "Last Dungeon"—a place where monsters of unimaginable strength reside and which serves as the hunting grounds for Kunlun residents.

Despite being accustomed to defeating powerful enemies since childhood, Lloyd Belladonna regards himself as the weakest in his village in terms of magic, strength, and intelligence. Even so, to fulfill his desire of becoming a soldier, he goes to the Kingdom of Azami to enroll in its military academy. However, as someone whose upbringing defies common sense, Lloyd's innate power might just prove to be the key to end the crises enveloping the kingdom!

I know this will be a divisive remark, but I think this show is trying to do something similar to One Punch Man, but with the standard Harem Isekai tropes as well. To that effect, I think that under certain circumstances this show is very high quality and manages to succeed in this endeavor.

I watched this show at 1.5x speed on dub. That being the case, many of the jokes managed to not only land, but occasionally catch me off guard. In particular, the absurdity of some of the scenes, like a belt talking about its grandchildren, in the moment may not seem completely absurd, ... but it quickly builds until a genuinely funny joke appears when you were already somewhat cracked. I am a somewhat cynical person and force myself to be more understanding for many of these reviews, but I genuinely don't see what it is people complain about this show for. The writing isn't the greatest ever done, but this show is just one in a series of many of the "OP Humble MC" verse, and it manages to at least entertain while it does it.

The characters are almost entirely waifus that shotacon over the MC, regular guys with zero libido, villains who are evil for one reason or another, or the unsettling people from the MCs village. There is an argument that some of the women being so much older than the MC is creepy and I would agree to an extent if it wasn't so clearly only used for humor. The characters are utilized in a simplistic fashion, usually relegated to being "how different people would react to the strange event" writing, but this ends up only being a reflection of the relatively peaceful setting of most of the show. Whenever a genuinely important story beat is occurring, there is usually some distance put between the characters and their personalities do interact with the situation in meaningful ways. However this can't be said for some of them who get in similar positions multiple times (Marie and Mikona).

The characters have a generic fancy school uniform, and the important characters have distinct fancier clothes. It does make visual delineation between important and unimportant characters faster, however it also somewhat removes us from the experience if you are left to dwell on it for too long. Characters often are drawn off model, but this is oftentimes a shorthand before they devolve into chibi for a comedic reprieve. There are some jarring moments where the animation is lacking, but this show is not one to suffer from slideshow syndrome. We are unable to witness most of the usual animation stuff we would like to see, but that is in part due to the in-universe explaination that the characters are so powerful that dust kicks up whenever they break something, or that their actions are so fast as to be unanimated / instantaneous to keep with real time.

The production on this is a bit lackluster. It is the same generic artstyle of most fantasy shows released over the last decade, bright and saturated color tones, fields of wheat and towns built of grey cobblestone, wood, and red tile roofs. The artstyle of the forrest near the MCs hometown has a beautiful painted look for a few of its scenes, reminiscent of the painterly art of "Made in Abyss", but that is quickly replaced by normal fantasy fair later on. I wish it had stuck with the look for longer, like Grimgar, but it turns into a standard show.

They are definitely setting up for another season, and I don't think I will skip on it when it comes out. While this isn't a masterpiece, I think it is a great little romp through an LN premise which anyone who enjoys anime would find fun and funny. The gags at some of the episodes genuinely made me laugh out loud, I can't get enough of this show... And I doubt I wouldn't find them funny on a repeat watch.

Mixed Feelings

Okay I understand why this show gets so much hate, but honestly it wasn’t that bad.

This show is in my opinion perfect example of stuff to watch if you want some cheap entertainment. It’s generic, sometimes annoying, predictable and LOUD with clché Japanesse anime style of homour. On the other hand humour knows no bounderies as many of reviewers already said and it worked for me although it was too much "cringy" sometimes. On top of that it looks good, has some enjoyable characters (some not), solid sound effects and if you won’t take it seriously and mainly don’t expect too much you got exactly ... what I said. It doesn’t mean it’s a good show at all tho. There isn’t anything else except of nice animations and humor which would make this show more enjoyable and these are primary aspects which somehow carries whole anime.

STORY: 2/10
It’s obvious story is not main focus of this piece of "art". You can predict almost each exciting moment like fight, small dramas or another plot. Thing is it doesn’t take itself seriously and I didn’t mind. Even if I roughly knew what will most likely happen I still enjoyed the outcome, because it was well presented. Each problem was solved with humorous outcome and thanks to this it fulfilled that role of comedy on point. Adventurous part of the story was dissapointment, becuase there is not much of a world exploring and adventure as such at all. Story is pretty fast pacing and almost every problem is solved in one or two episodes and you got another right in next episode. This is typical thing for medicore and generic fantasy shows.

CHARACTERS: 5/10
One of the bigger issues for me was main hero. He did not have single enjoyable or interesting character trait. He was just prototype of boring fantasy MC, but even more dumb and dense. Even that style of humor which was applied on his character wasn’t my cup of tea. Other female characters had mostly one thing in common and a that was obssesion with our MC. It was like watching some talkshow with Justin Bieber where he surprises his maniac girl fans. Except of this insanity each girl character had some trait which make her fun (OK Selen is exception). We don’t really need to speak about antagonists, because they are here, but they’re so much forgettable it would be waste of time. Shouma gets almost no screentime to introduce his character and you only know him as brother of MC which turns to evil just like that. Overall characters were mostly fun at that time of watching, but after i get some good sleep tonight I’m not gonna remember a single shit about them.

ART: 8/10
Hurrah, at last another thing you can actually appreciate. Animations looks good and that goes for fights as well. On the other hand it’s from big studio and producers made in year 2021, so nice animations are somehow expected. That doesn’t change the fact it looks stylish and it’s probably the biggest plus.

MUSIC/SOUND: 4/10
Not my type of thing and something which would make me thing about it. OP is like you would pick some cliché isekai song to copier, find some generic singer to sing that crap and put it right there. This is appliable for every single one song in this show and OST was terrible even more. Sound effects throughout the anime were on point unlike that music.

ENJOYMENT: 6/10
If you are reading to this part, maybe you wonder why I wrote it wasn’t so bad and then shit talked so much on this show. Simply because there are undoubtedly lot of thing wrong and I cannot overlook them.
Despite this I had fun and it’s mainly because of it’s humor, ease and almost no expectations from my side. As they say in my home country „if you don’t expect anything you cannot be dissapointed".

Overall: 5/10
For sure not type of thing for anybody. This show is definiton of contradiction so it’s purely subjective. Thanks to this I cannot recommend it to anybody and only to people with "wider" spectrum of sense of humor. It’s solid thing to watch if you look for something easy which doesn’t require a lot of your attention or simply as I said in the beginning if you look for cheap entertainment.

The comedy in this anime feels like guessing on a multiple-choice test—you might get a few laughs, but overall, it misses the mark. Nearly every scene tries to turn into a joke, resulting in a barrage of random gags that rarely land. The humor feels forced and relentless, making the story suffer as a result.

There’s potential in the premise—a powerful yet humble protagonist from a legendary village moving to a "starter town" is ripe for engaging storytelling. Unfortunately, the creators seem more interested in shallow comedy than meaningful plot development.

Visually, the anime is serviceable. The art style is nothing to write home about, and while ... there’s some fanservice sprinkled throughout, it's neither excessive nor memorable. It looks fine, but never stands out.

Overall, I can’t recommend this anime. It became a background show for me—something to play when you’re trying to fall asleep or need noise while doing something else. The predictability, one-note characters, and overdone comedy make it forgettable at best.
