High-schooler Akutsu Takuma has learned to accept his lonely lot in life and is content surrounded by his studies, but when the god Odin taps him to save the world alongside nine Valkyries fueled by intimacy, Takuma can say good-bye to his solitary existence!
The best way I can describe Val x Love is this. This show wants to be a hentai, but fails at being the hentai; so it is not a hentai, even though it should be a hentai. That’s right, I honestly think this show would have been better as a hentai rather than the show we got instead. It’s a show that always feels like it’s scared to go all the way and only teases it. But that isn’t the only reason why I think this show is underwhelming and the bad kind of trashy.
Reason number 1: The show’s story feels completely forced. It
felt like the show just contrived some way to justify why these girls are living with our main protagonist. So the reason being is that Odin sees our main protagonist Akustu Takuma as being the catalyst to allow his Valkyries to grow stronger and fight Akumas, daemons serving under Fenrir. This is about the only reason we get and it happens for less than a minute, in a flashback, at the end of the first episode. I can’t say really I’m convinced as it feels like the show didn’t care about explaining and just wanted to get to the juicy harem bits. But the reason just feels weak and there isn’t enough justification. It just happens and we are just meant to accept it.
Reason number 2: I can’t say I like the main protagonist Takuma. I get that with Takuma, they were trying to go with a gentle giant character. Someone who looks scary but has a kind heart but due to his social anxiety he comes across as intimidating. I’m fine with that. But when you are surrounded by girls that want to be with him, then I can’t really feel sympathy for him because he has plenty of people that care for him and talk to. So they try to play it off as comedic but for me at least, it comes across as flat.
Reason number 3: The animation is flat. For a show that is also trying to be a shounen series, this is a bad thing if the action you are portraying feels uninspired and lazy. It uses the more cheap tactics like still images and constantly cutting away to break the pacing. So they just come across as flat. Then there is the show’s censorship. Now it does do the usual censorship like hair covering the breasts but that is when they actually put effort into the censorship. The show does an inconsistent job of censorship. In a shower scene, they do a poor job when comes to using another tactic, steam, to cover the private parts as there was barely any steam; so they just don’t bother animating anything there, private or not. Now good censorship leaves the viewer using their imagination to think what’s beyond there but not having anything there leaves the scene feeling...flaccid. And you don’t want a scene like that come across as flaccid.
Honestly, the whole show has come across as flaccid. I can’t say I personally feel any sense of arousement or being humoured when watching this show even though the show tries to do that. I heard that the show was censored heavily compared to the original material which is fine if you do it right, which they don’t. I honestly would say that you should skip or drop this show. There really isn’t anything to keep you watching or to get you to watch. I will probably drop this show not long after I post this review as I already have four other shows on Saturday to watch that are more interesting than this show and I will probably be less arsed to watch this show as time goes on.
Feels forced and contrived to get invested into
I can’t feel sympathy for the MC and the harem is rather flat and stereotypical with little charm
Flat and poor censorship in some areas leaves me underwhelmed.
So forgettable and flat that I don’t even bother mentioning it till now.
My Personal enjoyment: 1/10
Bored and flaccid leaves me heavily tempted to drop this show.
When life gives you Val x Love, don't watch it. Make life take it back! Get mad! I don't want your damn Val x Love, what the hell am I supposed to get from this? Demand to see life's manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Robert-Andrew D. Smith Val x Love! Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With Val x Love! I'm gonna get my mates to invent a combustible Val x Love-anime that burns your house down!
Yeah, it gets a negative score. Why? Because this is just fucking awful.
Now, this is a NON-SERIOUS (anime that doesn't really have anything else but fan-service) anime to me... and it is. Somebody would say that this is a "hentai-anime", but this doesn't really have any of the requirements. Of course, my thoughts are mine and yours are yours, but it think that nudity is the most important requirement, to be a "hentai-anime"... and this didn't have any nudity... like... there was no bare tits. The story is pretty much basic for a NON-SERIOUS anime: a guy has a full harem around him, he dates the girls and gets into situations where he is accused of being a pervert even though they are accidents. And when in many other NON-SERIOUS animes that kinda shit is too ridiculous that it becomes funny, in this anime... that kinda ridiculous story isn't funny, it's just fucking CRINGE.
In great animes the writing is really well done and all of dialogues are really written. In great animes, all of the characters have character. In this anime, everything is done wrong on that sense.
I'd usually go a bit easy with NON-SERIOUS animes, but when it's like this... it makes me want to kill myself.
Art style is pretty much basic and it doesn't really stand out from any other NON-SERIOUS anime. There really isn't any personality or experimentality in it. It's just really bland and too basic.
Soundtrack is pretty bad, voice acting is decent... yeah...
Again, a negative score. Characters are just awful, none of them are interesting. So, we got the tsundere, kuudere, ara ara, father complex, imouto, shy big tit girl and whole lot of other fucking characters. Honestly, I do like Takuma a bit. He's a guy like me, not interested in some thots, so that's a little plus. The minor characters well... I'm FUCKING DISAPPOINTED! If you'd do a reverse bechdel test on this anime, it would fail so FUCKING BAD, that you wouldn't believe it. All of the minor/background characters are so BAD, that probably any other anime would be second compared to this.
And again, a negative score. When I can't enjoy a NON-SERIOUS anime as a NON-SERIOUS anime, it doesn't have anything else to offer.
Yeah, this is fucking awful anime.
So, in conclusion: fuck Val x Love, fuck Devilman: Crybaby, fuck Bryan Singer, fuck Bohemian Rhapsody (the movie) and fuck everyone who rated Joker 10/10 on IMDb before even seeing it!
"This show is one of the BEST shows this anime season" is something no one will say about this show. Like some others seasonal animes, it is average at best.
My first issue is the story. Initially, it is about a guy named Takuma whom society views as an evil entity despite his true personality being a nervous person. One day, he encounters Odin, the norse god, and supposedly his daughters, who are Valkryies, must perform romantic or sexual acts upon him to increase their power to stop evil forces. One slight problem with the story tho, the audience has to figure much of this
by themselves because they not once lead up to the initial interaction of the MC with the others. Instead, you skip past the first interactions of the valkyries and are dropped into a point where the MC has already begun to live cooperate with these valkyries and let them live at his place.
Nothing really great about the art. It just does not really set itself from the rest of the seasonal or continuing animes. Nothing eye popping or jaw dropping. It is just your typical regular art style.
Similar to the art, there is nothing real catchy or great with the sound. It is bland and does not really contribute much
The MC is similar to Ryuji in Toradora because his looks make people believe he is an evil entity. The running gag is typical a certain individual will encounter the MC and jump out a window, no matter how high they are. But because of his looks, he never really talks with people and becomes an introvert who is scared to interact with other people. The show plays him off as someone who is a coward but when push comes to shove, he will step up and stand for the valkyries. You know, the stereotypical coward-turns-to-knight-for-damsels characters. After that, the valkyries(the ones sent down to raise their power by performing various activities with the MC) are your most stereotypical characters. They either see him as a love interest, brother, pervert, yada yada, and so on. Each one has their own certain powers but those powers will not really turn them into great characters. And then, the supposed evil guy just does not feel evil whatso ever. The show presents him as evil and he shows evil traits but he just doesn't feel like a threat.
This is more or less a personal choice of me giving this a 5/10 show, at best. It is your typical seasonal anime with ecchi and fan service moments. This show is one many should just pass by and look at other ones. I would only recommend this show if you are very bored out of your mind and have already seen the good/great shows already
I dropped this show on 4th episode because is just bad. They introduce you not 3 not 4, not 5 but fucking damn 11 characters on first episodes plus one bad guy that works for another bad guy... Did they said that it was good to introduce characetrs little by little!? hold my bear!.
The art is ok-ish, the sound track non existan, the characters boring stereotypes the only good thing of the show is the main character... and is not even that good.
The story has some kind of potential but for me is just a boring show, non explaining anything about the world or whatever
just like I'm odin, here have my 9 daughters and have fun with them and fightning some kind of demon... which they don't do because there is no fucking fight which is ok.
So if you want fan service... you don't have any... well a bit on 4th episode, surely is going to go that way. If you like that kind of anime it's maybe ok for you, if you like some decent anime, just stay far awy from this one, seriously, is even worst that to love.ru and masou gakuen hxh... and I thought I wouldn't find anything worst than masou gakuen hxh...
