Glad to meet a reviewer that believes in objectivity VS enjoyment! A lot of people are against the existence of objectivity in art, and unfortunately a lot of these people are reviewers. And when these people make a review with an objectively incorrect assessment and someone points it out, then the "Art is subjective and it's just my opinion" card gets played, and it destroys the possibility for any analytical discussion, and defeats the purpose of criticism.

Now, you don't need to have analytical discussion about art for it to still be meaningful and helpful to others, but when you're trying to be analytical (which is what most people would claim they're doing in their reviews) then they have to be willing to think from a perspective that doesn't always align with what they experienced.

It bothers me too when opinions are being spouted with no rhyme or reason, and the closest thing they have to a substantiation is their feelings. It's why I don't watch/read many reviews nearly as much as I used to. It's just too common, and reviews aren't really getting any shorter. Though my review's on the longer side for an MAL review so I understand the desire for length LOL

What you said about enjoyment is also true-I think that often times when people enjoy something a lot, they're more passionate about it. And if they're smart too, the passion will make them look deeply into the piece of media in a way that the dispassionate wouldn't, and will notice certain things that go over most people's heads. The problem is when the passion takes over and it becomes less like a review and more like a tumblr post

Thank you! Your interest is appreciated ^^

Yeah I agree completely. As someone with a narcissistic mother a lot of what Seiko did felt eerily familiar, so it hit close to home for me too. It really is a shame, but I'd say it's still worth seeing through to the end just because of how high the highs are.

I understand, I generally don't like using volume sales or statistics in arguments since there are many factors that can influence them such as marketing, size of the genre, etc. My main reason for including it in the review is due to the amount of people I see praising it and judging its quality solely for selling a lot and hype surrounding it despite it being irrelevant before the show started releasing.

I don't disagree on the emotional bait either, thats easily one of the worst aspects of Demon Slayer if not the worst

Yeah, that's an excellent way of putting it.
The only anime adaptation of the original novel I liked without major caveats was the first season of UBW TV series,
even though everything made by ufotable has had stellar production quality and I do understand the necessity of streamlining and trimming non-essential content when translating something so extensive into animation,
but nonetheless I can't help but notice to what extent the subtlety, severity and robustness of characters' writing,
as well as something which I am not eloquent enough to explain without resorting to vaguely ambiguous descriptors like 'tone' and 'atmosphere',
have been diminished in the process.
Also, regardless of any adaptation issues, there's quite a few baffling directional decisions, rewrites and re-imaginations in most Fate anime, which I don't appreciate on their own merit as means of storytelling.

Heyo,
just wanted to thank you for a well thought-out Kimetsu no Yaiba review.
But damn was it hard to read without any punctuation, though.

4Kids is mainly awful in terms of localizing and script changes, but can't deny that they have great voice actors. I regret looking up Dan Green's MAL page at times though... many have had their childhoods ruined, so if curious, proceed with caution lol

huh? why explain so much about it, i know about it already at this point lol... though i still appreciate the dedication to explaining it throughly though, don't get me wrong sorry if i made you sad dude... but yeah, loved Season Zero. doubt i would have given the manga a proper chance if it weren't for it and Megumi Ogata's awesome performance as both Yugis ngl. original manga rules though, even past the Season Zero adapted parts with general Shadow Games and not just card games... i guess i like cards other than the Clow now
Fario-P Jun 1, 2022 11:02 PM
no yeah seriously i meant it unironically like what you said with the art, haircut/fashion, and how dramatic it all is. the manga is seriously so zetta good it's strange how people hardly ever talk about it despite it being a WSJ manga and having a pretty iconic anime adaptation
Fario-P May 28, 2022 1:14 PM
oh that page is straight out of the Duel Art book right? i have that it's really cool to see in person *sparkly eyes*

yeah DSoD is a sequel to the manga so I'm watching it after I finish the manga instead of the anime which I'm trying to finish first

never realized how based Takahashi is
Fario-P May 27, 2022 7:24 PM
long time no see, yeah watching YGO rn and it's pretty good shit especially the manga... haven't completed it yet tho cuz I want to finish DM before I get back to reading more of it, and then after I'm done reading I will watch the DSoD sequel movie. dunno if I will watch any of the later spin-offs for now but I am considering them

While I could go on and a write a paragraph on why I like them, why they are good, why people don’t like them and how the good is more than the bad, all that stuff, I am terrible at reviewing stuff and explaining why I like the stuff. It’s really hard for me to analyze the series and critique it because i just enjoy the series. I rate mainly based on enjoyment. So all I could say is give it a try and see if you like them.

Also if you are going to try re zero, read the first 9 volumes of the light novel, then switch to the Webnovel for the rest. The 2nd and 3rd arcs aren’t translated in the Webnovel for some reason. Not only is the translations almost caught up (currently in arc 7) while the light novel translation is in the middle of arc 5, I prefer the Webnovel. The web novel is what tappei writes first as a draft, and the light novel condenses it and rearranges and changes a little bit of the story. I prefer the way the story pans out in the Webnovel. Just a suggestion.

The series that immediately comes to mind is re zero. My top three favorite series are classroom of the elite, a certain magical index, and re zero, and they have been pretty much tied for the longest time, but I think re zero has the edge. I don’t know if you watched the anime, but the novel is way better. The adaptation was okay, but it was definitely inferior to the novel. It is a subversion rod the isekai genre and is the best psychological, thriller, mystery series I have read.

Another recommendation is is mushoku tensei. I think mushoku tensei is peak isekai. What I mean by that is while re zero is a breakdown of the isekai genre, mushoku tensei perfected it. It is one of the most immersive series I have ever seen. If I think fantasy, mushoku tensei is one of the first series that comes to mind. It has one of the best world building I have seen too.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
