Patlabor 2 did the whole techno-thriller thing way better than any Tom Clancy (or Tom Clancy clone) book or movie.

He's not a Christian, or religious for that matter. If you read the book 'Mamoru Oshii: Stray Dog of Anime' you'll see that Oshii mentioned that he attend Church to observe religious practice but didn't see it personally as a requirement for his life.

However, he sees a certain degree of truth to religion (hence why he uses quotes from the bible alot), especially since mankind is advancing so far that human integrity is being replaced with a computer screen.
