I love Frieren so much, the anime is honestly doing much better than the manga which was already great material to begin with. I’m so glad it got such a great production.

Speaking of TYE, I find it funny when I’ve had people come up to me in DMs or private messages and say that series does things way better, which is honestly something I found absolutely ridiculous. Some of the major problems with TYE isn’t just how poorly it implements and scripts its melodrama, but it often doesn’t even know what it wants to do. Battle shounen? Sentimental melodrama? Lighthearted fantasy comedy? As someone following the manga out of morbid curiosity (unfortunately), the story has gotten even messier to where I can’t even recognize if it’s the same series anymore. Without spoiling anything, the latest arc looks like something outta one of those classic “space western” series….you know, like Cowboy Bebop and Star Trek.

TYE also really fails to flesh out the characters as organically as possible because it’s always just involving them being thrown into the ridiculous and jarring conflict with the Knocker antagonists, and yet it turns out that these Knockers aren’t….actually evil? Most of these character interactions feel so forced and at times I daresay automated. And yes ofc you can’t forget how horrendously inflated the attempts at emotional manipulation are. Not even the first episode which I found decent at the time was at all good with it, either.

Sousou no Frieren has avoided all of that for the most part, partially thanks to the specification that this is a new story and journey after the usual “heroes defeat the demon lord” status quo. What comes after like revisiting places and finding things you never thought of previously as well as reminiscing and realizing the value of the times you spent back time that you had previously taken for granted.

There's no particular genre I'm looking for. But there's a big misconception that all visual novels are either romance, drama, slice of life, ecchi, or hentai.


How is the visual novel compared to the anime for White Album 2? I adore the series but I heard a lot the visual novel. Do you know where I can play it or did you use YouTube?
I played some Saya no Uta after you recommended it to me. Idk how I feel about it...
It's like a tearjerker and a horror story at the same time.

Hey, I'm glad you responded! I'm actually on vacation right now, so I'm just kicking back and surfing the internet since it's a day I don't have much planned. Operant conditioning is just a lot easier to shape behaviors in our line of work than classical conditioning. Although classical conditioning is still used today in areas like advertisement because it's really good at creating associations in our heads. We follow Skinner's path more often, especially since his work Verbal Behavior was hugely influential on Applied Behavior Analysis. Skinner broke down early language development in infants and toddlers into categories based on motivation and what prompts these behaviors. The 4 most basic categories are: Demands, repeating what you just heard, labeling, and filling in the blank in a conversation. We call these Mands, echoics, tacts, and intraverbals.

Example of Mand: baby is feeling thirsty. baby says "Milk!" or "Wawa!". While this may not be baby's first word, this is the category that we want to try teaching first in a child with language learning issues or developmental delay. Trying to accomplish something and get what we want is the most basic building block of all human communication. Just as Chomsky argued in his debates with Skinner, the human brain is naturally wired to learn language and communicate. However, in many children with autism or intellectual disability, their brain is wired a little different and this natural language development doesn't happen smoothly. So, you end up with a child who is 6 years old, and their communication consists of screaming and hitting. Those are the 2 things that this child has learned can at least sometimes get him what he wants. If he is thirsty, hungry, wants time alone, wants attention, or needs to use the bathroom, this child just screams. Often his parents, teachers, and caregivers aren't able to understand these attempts at communication and the child doesn't end up getting what he wanst. This hurts his motivation to try communicating in the future because why bother? These people aren't listening. The alternative is that the parents do get really good at guessing his motivation and the scream has become an effective form of communication with mom and dad. However, this is not an effective form of communication in the long term because future caregivers may not have this same level of intuition. This is why we start with Mand training and see it as the most important of the 4.

In terms of complexity and speech development from most essential to most advanced our training goes Mands, Echoics, Tacts, intraverbal in that order.

I also thought I would answer your previous question on whether I still use my medical school knowledge. I end up using it fairly often. It is a healthservice related field after all. Let's say I have a child with trisomy 21 and that child doesn't feel like going to art class, so she flops on the floor. I need to protect the dignity of my client, so I can't just leave her on the floor. However, I also need to remember that those with Down Syndrome have joint hypermobility, so I can't pull her up using her wrists. I have to gently pull her up going under the arms. This is just a minor example. Since there are many causes of speech issues and intellectual disability we also have to do reading on our client's medical files and know how to examine medical literature. If I get assigned a child who has SYNGAP1, I need to brush up on that condition. I can't just pretend that the same rules and protocols from my Trisomy 21 kid apply here. SYNGAP1 means that seizures are to be expected and I always have to be prepared for them. To not be caught off-guard, I need to know beforehand that this child is very seizure prone and know how to react to a myoclonic seizure vs a Tonic-clonic seizure.

Applied behavior analysis mostly uses differential reinforcement to help shape behaviors and change the rates of behaviors. It is based on principles of operant conditioning. For example, let's say that a child is engaging in tantrums in order to avoid doing work at school. We can reduce this behavior by giving the child longer breaks for completing the work than they would get for doing the tantrum behavior. Just a very basic example.

My girlfriend actually started Subahibi. I've heard from many people that it's...interesting. It has erotic content just because it was very expected in the early days of VNs and they thought it needed that to sell. I guess the author was ashamed of the porn though, because he tried REALLY hard to convince the reader he's actually super cultured and well read. However, the references never really amount to anything. It seems he just threw in some random references to literature and philosophy that he learned in college to make his erotic game feel smart. Although that part is kind of silly, Subahibi was hugely influential in furthering the establishment of the "Denpa" genre of VNs. Although the first Denpa was an erotic horror game from way back in 1996, so it was far from being the first.

Subahibi kind of reminds me of Xenogears and Xenosaga trilogy. Tetsuya Takahashi was an obsessive Evangelion fan who followed the bad advice of the Japanese internet and believed it was important to understand Gnostic Christianity and Jungian Psychology to understand Eva, so he did a lot of reading on those topics and just jammed a metric shit ton of references into his games. Sometimes, it furthers the game and is done tastefully. One of the antagonists based on Nietzsche is actually not a terrible representation of him and follows Nietzschean philosophy pretty accurately. Then sometimes the games feel like they've gone DEEP up their own ass. lol
