"Who help`s the people, that waste own time. In vain good deeds, can not be glorified" From Shapoklyak`s song. How about "Nu, pogodi!", "I'll Get You!" on English, in anime style with japan speech? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-PV9lqdmj8 LoL Wolf in da "gopnik" style.

My grandmother used to read me that story when I was five years old. Crocodile Genna was my favorite! Krissa Larissa was also an awesome antagonist.

Can someone give explain what show is about? Never heard of it, i admit.

The story starts when Cheburashka, an unknown to science type of monkey, accidentally falls into the crate of oranges, falls asleep and gets to the grocery shop in another country.

He is named Cheburashka by puzzled grocery store owner(due to the fact that when put on table, the monkey, "tumbles down"(rus. cheburakhnulsya) to chair and then to the floor, due to weariness).

Soon Cheburashka meets crocodile, Gena, who likes to play accordion(and overall is friendly and good unlike normal crocodiles).

They end up in many strange situations(both funny, silly and serious), with their adventures being more difficult because of Old Lady Shapoklyak(eng, Top Hat), an old, but charming lady, who tends to play mischevious pranks upon Gena and Cheburashka.

"Cheburashka" is strange, sometimes funny, sometimes rally depressive, tale about everyday life and viewing adult problems from child's POV.

"Cheburashka" as title became incredibly popular in Japan, up to the point that it has several pokemon designed after it, not to mention that certain characters from it became ghibli movie archetypes

It's cute, i just checked this topic and what your reponse what ... of course i understood it more when it wasnt in russian but in japanese , this maybe something ill pick up on the side

edit: i watched a couple episodes , i love the cheburashka song, sounds sooooo familar ... not sure if i watched it when i was little or not (my age is 24)
like you said it might of be popular in japan but when i grew up i didn't know much of it before i moved to the states ... this is something i definately want to see

(for those who do not know what Hedgehog in the Fog is - here - it's counted as one of the best animated features of all time).
beside that, many of the Japanese animators concider Y.Norstein (creator of the "Hedgehog...") to be their teacher.

you forgot to mention a famous tale that Miyazaki was inspired by Atamanov's "The Snow Queen" (1957).
btw, most of his creations look better than most of the Japanese animation even now. not only narration and director's work, but quality too. lot's of objects moves and characters movements very smooth and natural.

P.S. While we are at it, they should do anime faithful adaptation of russian Winnie Pooh cartoons

I personally think that they'd ruin Winnie's songs.

fai, how comes that you know so much about soviet animation ? O_o

I grew up during that era and the tv was flooded with such WIN, like animations of "Winnie Pooh"(which was real cute and LUL-worthy stuff), "Cheburashka", "Nu Pogodi" and comedy movies like "Diamond Arm" and "Adventures of Shurik"(Every part being a brilliant comedy about students).

Of course the CCCP was destroyed(thankfully) and the country I live in was finally free, however the LULziness of those things still remains popular enough to get repeated airings on many TV channels.

I was still lucky enough to own all of those things on DVDs :P

it'll be even more fun if they manage to sing Gena's Den rozhdeniya in japanese.

Already did. There's a japanese dub of the original cartoon, and all songs are sung in Japanese.

and it sounds awful lol
