Hmmm... it does sound to be shounen-ai, but I thought that about the Toward the Terra too, and it wasn't really yaoi.

I might check it out, but I'll probably drop it and pick it up again (if it gets good reviews) if it were shounen-ai. Those manga/anime usually do turn out pretty bad...

I don't think BL necessarily has to be fanservice-y, though. Can't they just have BLish hints? In other words, can't the show develop a relationship between two male characters that's strong enough to be interpreted as romance? I don't think there's anything particularly fanservice-y about that.

If it's possible for heterosexual romance or hints thereof to belong in a serious anime, I don't see why BL - whether implicit in the text, or outright canon - has to get in the way of a serious dystopian sci-fi plot. I've no idea how NO.6 will turn out, of course. But in principle, a romance between two male characters is not necessarily just fanservice.

I agree completely. I think people just get worried because BL anime tends to suck. If an actual awesome bl, or story that just happened to have gay or gayish characters was made, more open minded would probably watch it.

Back to subject...

I don't think it's that people are homophobes as much as that the shounen-ai might not fit the tone of the series. It seems like this wants to be a fairly serious dystopian sci-fi plot-wise, and that doesn't gel too well with a bunch of fanservice meant mostly to turn fangirls on...

I don't think it's that people are homophobes as much as that the shounen-ai might not fit the tone of the series. It seems like this wants to be a fairly serious dystopian sci-fi plot-wise, and that doesn't gel too well with a bunch of fanservice meant mostly to turn fangirls on (think of what a series like Monster would be like if someone like Anna flashed a pantyshot everytime she appeared for an alternate example). If they actually wanted to go the BL route, that would be fine, but right now, it seems more like it'd never amount to anything beyond the fanservice.

Anyway, I am looking forward to this shonen-ai or not. It's a Noitamina show made by Bones, so it has a decent chance of turning out pretty well or at least of looking nice.

Just got into chapter 2 of the manga. So far I guess I could compare the shounen-ai hints to 07-Ghost-level.

I don't mind the shounen-ai, since noitaminA's also(mostly?) marketed to women after all (and had done it before with Antique Bakery, etc). Story-wise, it looks promising too. The only thing that I feel like's gonna annoy me is that slutty girl (forgot her name) asking for Shion's semen on the first chapter. Hope her stalker/creepy-ness would be kept to minimum. Good thing the second chapter didn't showed her. xD

Also wondering why Shion's hair is changed to white in the anime promo compared to the manga being dark O_O. [EDIT] Nvm I saw the trailer... Maybe it's plot-related

Anyway, looking forward to the anime. ^^

So wait, this is shounen ai?
I was excited 'cause this was a noitaminA anime, but I don't really watch shounen ai...
Might check it out. Might.

I wouldn't have thought that it'd be any more shounen-ai than any of their other stuff - Shiki and Kuragehime spring to mind as very recent examples. They have flavours of shounen-ai if you're looking for it, but if you're not then you probably wouldn't be at all bothered by it.

Of course, I could be wrong lol. I'm very happy either way :D

oooooh~~~
I'll watch it.

Are those part of the official description? Hope so. Noitamina is my last hope for a BL series that doesn't suck.

I think that was down to it being a poor adaptation more than anything. The hype was going off the VN by Nitro+ (known for their dark and edgy stories). Ultimately, it sounded like Togainu anime suffered from the same problems as Umineko and Chaos Head anime did, it wasn't that the original story was bad, but it was just adapted badly. Note that the Chaos Head game was also made by Nitro+.

Not that I have seen or played any of them, but I'm sure there will be plenty of Togainu VN fans out there to back up my words.

I think you got it wrong, I'm not telling the game was bad - only the adaptation. I tried to say there were big expactations since anime was based on a good game. Other anime you mentioned, Umineko and Chaos;Head were quite good by me, and if they're worse then games, they must be brilliant ;p

If it is something that you dislike it is a completely reasonable to drop the series. Hilarous?, Why? O_o . I dont think that if you dont like watching homosexual romance you will be homophobic, people dont like shoujos/shonen romance for example. I think that it is completely normal and it isnt a hilarious.

Well, it's true, you can't watch hentai when you find it gross, but some people judge book by it's cover - for ex. mecha anime can be psychologically deep, or ecchi can have some interesting plot. There are odds who drop beacuse they don't like the picture style and that's is just sad. It's very important to check the rewievs first, not the tags ;p

I find it hilarious how some people won't watch this just because it might have some shounen-ai. Seriously, dropping a show with a nice plot just because of something like this?

THIS.
Good advice~

What dont you like? It will be hilarous for your argument.
