Can't believe I'm the first one to make this topic :P
Well, I've just watched episode 23...
In my opinion, it was an awesome episode.
It was really deep [compared to the last few episodes, which were more comedy-like (Andy FTW)], and I really liked the whole cult thing because it was very realistic.

Your opinion? :D

oo out of the top of my head
are you talking about the one with that scary guy who was a con artist?
the guy himself wasn't scary
but that image he portrayed (that old guy; no offense) was freaky scary =X
mm religion reminds me completely like that
tbh, i like the spike past related eps best (5,25,26, etc) and ep 9, the ed episode
oh
and bohemian rhapsody awesome
omg, and the mushroom samba xD =D
oo i must admit, i have a bias against westerns =X so i liked the andy episode, but i didn't enjoy it as much as i could've had, had the bias not been there [andy episode is the one with the guy who was always on the horse and interrupting spike?]

This is the one where hanashi 23 is from right?

"If you want to dream, dream alone."

Awesome episode. I didn't realize it was so far in. It's been too long since I've watched this series.

Even that episode had a deeper message !! When the police man asked the bomb terrorist why he was doing all that fuzz he started to give a very very good explanation too bad he was interupt by andy again:P
About the 23 episode it was truly gold and it had many good moments the mystery case how it evolves around the idea of a guy dream in an artificial word where he wants evry to be druged in that world truly epic!!!

A strange episode to say the least. The ending left me slightly confused. At first I thought the cult leader was talking to an empty room, but then it showed people walked in front of the tv screens. I suppose when it flickered off that was Edward and Jet cutting his broadcast.

Very interesting episode, I have a feeling the creator behind Persona 4 may have been influenced by Cowboy bebop the start up screen is near ideantical to one of the tv scenes and one of the bounty hunters lying on the floor greatly resembled Kanji Tatsumi from P4 (well actually the other way around because CB came first xD)

Interesting episode... Weird, yes, but deep like others have mentioned. It's kind of interesting that the kid picked up on how people created God rather than the other way around. But the old man image was plain freeeaky. D:

Kind of reminds me of the likes of Ghost in the Shell, or Serial Experiments Lain. Kept up a great atmosphere, like those two, really great episode.

Loved this one. I found it really amusing when Spike is flipping channels at the beginning, we see that despite gargantuan leaps in technology, the visual medium in the year 2071 is not spared of the multitude of trashy talk shows (broadcasted in 12 languages, no less!) that plague us today. And even though we can supposedly colonise Mars, they are still selling work out machines likes there's no tomorrow. I guess there's just no keeping the fat off, huh?

Loved the song that was played as Jet & Ed were leaving the hospice/medical facility.

That video game advertisement brought a smile to my face. They had no idea that graphics like this would suck even in 2010, not to mention 2070's :D And the case of this kid.. well... I guess nobody expected that a guy in coma would create a new religion/cult/whatever.

One of the most educational episode of the series.

The beginning and middle. Especially when Spike tries to confess Londes about how he's saying different subjects.

I've seen this kind of episode in a lot of other series.

Anyway, the episode itself was good. lol @ ED scene, it made be lol

Lovely.

I liked all the T.V channel changes in the episode.

Lol this ep is not about anti-religion, it's more about escapism. This kid was left at a vege state, he wanted everyone to be like him and doesn't want to be alone. He cannot accept the harsh reality that he was left at this state so he wanted to make everyone like him (without a body and just the mind). It shows a scene where Faye said if she didn't have a body she didn't have to pay her debt, which shows she just doesn't want to pay the debt but it doesn't change the fact she has a debt. Everything that kid said about religion and reality is his way of justifying his action. Which hold some truth in it, like how he said television(media) manipulate the way people think. I'm not anti-religion, I studied sociology so I have a sense of what religion does.
Anyways just cause the kid was defeated, that doesn't mean what he said about religion and reality is false. Spike said "If you want to dream, dream alone", it means if you want to escape from reality, escape alone because other people have their life to live and also have face reality. The only fail I see in this ep is Spike calling him a kid just because he doesn't want to face reality. Spike can't fight back when the kid talk about reality and when he asked Spike what does he know about him.

So much truth in such a depressing episode.

I love these kinds of episodes where a human brain manipulates or "hacks" other people through the constantly evolving powerful media tools. Cowboy Bebop is one of the first (animated) TV Series I remember doing this, probably with some inspiration from Ghost in the Shell. Anyway the concept wasn't exactly new at this point.

I remember well the next episode, from here on it's an emotionally ride that only stops at the end... I must brace myself.

Interesting balance of humor and creepiness in this episode.

This episode was very strange. The intro let me so curious as to what was about to happen and then to stumble onto a channel where they were interviewing Faye was very weird. I was interested to find out where this ended up and that it was all created by a lonely guy in a colma.. I wonder how he got all that network setup if he's injured to the point he can't move. No bounty on this one as well probably. Definitely see that the end is coming near if the bounty show has been cancelled.

It definitely could be any cult, but it's actually based on an older American cult who committed mass suicide out of loyalty to their religion in the 90's.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heaven's_Gate_(religious_group)

Very interesting but also very scary as Brain Scratch demonstrates how easy it is to warp the human mind.

That's the exact same thing I though of when seeing that scene.

----

This was a FANTASTIC episode.
I'm really interested in religion, cults, and the psychology of how people work, so I enjoyed it immensely. I feel bad it was really someone in a coma that wanted to still have a mind outside his vegetable body but... he shouldn't have manipulated and played with people like some kind of game :/ So in the end, he got what he deserved.

That was a great episode. The opening was really cool with the focus on television and occults, the rest of it was a straight-forward mystery as they tried to find the guy behind it all, and the ending was surprisingly emotional with the reveal of who is really behind everything. 8.5/10

I think this is one of my favourite episodes from cowboy bebop.. Such deep meanings, and all in all it was just a kid who lost his chance at life, trying to create a better world equal for all... Such a sad story..
