I think this is the most appropriate place to put this topic, if not please correct me. Yesterday I was reading manga at MangaFox and my internet explorer froze. Weird, but I still see the info bar still loading stuff, (the one that says done when you're finished loading the page). After I end internet explorer with task manager my security system recognizes my computer has viruses and shuts down on me. I had to go on safe mode to stop the viruses which were trojans so I could use my security system to get rid of the viruses.

Anyone else have this problem? Or is it just me? Or do people already know about this and I'm a fool for not knowing?

Nope I have had no problems with manga fox.

I think those trojans you had were already there it was just a matter of time before they automatically downloaded some other malicious software that killed your system you just happened to be on manga fox at the time.

Thats just how I think your problem occured.

I've never had a problem with MangaFox. The only thing I have against it, is that its horribly slow and has a bunch of stupid ads.

Well I didn't get viruses, but me and my friend experienced a problem where we would be redirected to porn sites. I don't know if it's related to viruses though...you should email the moderator or admin or whoever is in charge.

happens to me ALL THE TIME. I've had to "X" out of Firefox and use task manager to end it coz it froze my compter. I was reading it on my moms laptop and it got a virus. My dad (He's an IT director) is STILL trying to get rid of it, and this happened a week ago!

Yeah, I've had problems with mangafox too. Big, slow-loading ads, automatic redirections, EVEN SLOWER ADS, viruses, popups and the like...

I tend to use firefox instead of IE nowadays, though, which basically gets rid of the redirections and the viruses. To get rid of the ads, I simply find which ones are picture-based rather than flashplayer/java based, and right click -> Block images from [googleads.something something]. (replace googleads with whatever ad company they come from)

yeah IE sucks major. I use Firefox, and I've never had any trouble with Mangafox. Since I have adblocker I never seen any ads either.

My anti-virus program informs me of all maleware that attempts to get into my computer. I use firefox exclusively as well.

Having said that, I will not go on mangafox anymore because every time I do, I almost immediately get some horrible maleware trying to get into my computer. I used to use mangafox and had no problems, but for some reason, in the last few months, the site has become a virtual field of trojan land mines. 99.99% you got that crap from manga fox, despite what other users might say, but they are misinformed.

The best thing you can do is ditch the site or else get a very good ad-blocker which blocks ALL ads automatically (I use ad block plus and it is still insufficient) or get spybot or something that automatically stops maleware from downloading into your computer. I use avast which is good but it often requires me to abort connection but tells me that something is going on. What is really bad, though, is if my web browser stops responding and lags out and I cannot abort connection fast enough. This has caused me to use system restore on my XP almost three times now.

I've been having problems recently with viruses, freezes, and redirects from mangafox lately. I've tried Firefox, Safari, and IE and all gave me the same results, it's actually gotten to the point that I can't read more than 4 chapters without running into an issue. I've switched over to onemanga for the meantime, since it's gotten to be a pain in the butt to try to figure out which page I was on before the pop-ups froze the browser or the virus scan kicked me off of the website.

The main problem I get is that the Acrobat Reader thing pops up, and I ran a virus scan coz it's getting really slow on my connection, but nothing came up. Then my mom logged in on her account yesterday and a popup came up saying that my account had caused 5 threats, something called "Bloodhound" (Anyone who thinks of the "bad touch" I WILL find you!), and so far we haven't done anything. I only go on it to read my yaoi manga coz OneManga doesn't have it...guess I'll stop going on it now ^__^

:/ Yeah, I found a few trojan horses and a virus called bloodhound. >_> I had my program quarantine it... but it does sound awfully similar to a lot of the stuff here, and I tried using Mangafox a while ago. Murgh. I'd assume I got it the same way I got another virus recently, by executing something downloaded without scanning it (computer illiterate). Guess I'll go back to downloading scanlations now.

About the freezing... I don't know about that on Mangafox, but a few times when I try reading on Onemanga, after a period the browser (whether it be Opera or Firefox) stops responding and I have to end and reopen it.

Wow I thought this topic was dead. If anyone needs malware remover go to malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. It's a free program which is constantly updated to fight the latest malware. I had the worst night yesterday, both my computers got Spyware Protect 2009 Malware. The program's only 5mb or something and it worked great. Remember this program is free, there is a pay version but the non-paying customers still get the same malware signatures, you just don't get active protection and etc.
For all those who don't have a solid malware remover and detector, at least try malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, give a quick scan, and you can choose to delete it afterwards.

Yes, this is the best program to remove otherwise impossible to remove maleware such as fakealert and vundo which I got from mangafox.

I haven't gotten any, but in the last couple of days there were some redirect attempts, and I ran a number of scans and tweaks, changed my configurations and it stopped happening.

The ads can be stopped if you change your privacy settings I've found. They don't show up at all for me and the pages load super fast, although they were never slow for me before.

I have the same problem. I think I'm going to have to act like Manga Fox doesn't exist, which is really depressing :(
I reformatted my pc and everything, but the second I got back on their site, it started up again. So terrible. It's actually kind of scary how it sends you popup alerts that look legit.. but are scams!

idk about everyone else but i used mangafox for about 5months and in the beggining it was fine and usual but later on when i used mangafox i started getting signs from my computer saying that mangafox was a harmful website but i ignored it... next day did a virus scan and found i had 8 trojans on my computer. i think it depends on what comp ur using tho cuz i also go on mangafox on my vista comp. and i haven't got a virus yet. Oh and if u do get a virus just re-format ur whole comp. i did it and its all clean again =]

I have had my favorite computer shut down because of it. A great manga site but it is a serious virus colony! At first your computer blocks it but after a while it gets in 31 or more viruses. SERIOSLY DO NOT GO THERE!

Woah, I had no clue, I consider my self mildly informed when it comes to computers, I had no clue that mangafox did that.

I would use it casually every once and a while, and every once and a while my spyware scanner would pick up on some random trojan. I kept scratching my head wondering what I had been on to cause these rare little attacks. Now I know and I will stay away from that site from now on.

I got a virus there a few weeks ago, and I was browsing it through Firefox. I'm having a lot of problems getting rid of the virus, but it doesn't seem to be doing much to my computer thanks to my having disabled it. Still, it's really annoying. I don't visit that site anymore. I only really use onemanga right now.

Step one: Get firefox

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

Step two: Get the NoScript addon

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722

With this combo, pages will load much faster on mangafox, and as an added bonus, NoScript blocks any malicious scripts (redirects, virus downloads, etc). It's really a one-two punch to most internet problems, and it's lightweight and will not tax your system resources like running a malware blocker all the time would.

Tried it. Didn't actually work. It doesn't read the virus as being there, but I know the viruses' exact location and it's definitely there. I'm going to try deleting it manually once I finish classes, but until then I want to leave it alone. I don't want to risk wiping my computer until after all my homework has been handed in and I don't need it anymore.

and on top of that it alerts that
I have viruses downloading into
my computer <_< uh-huh....
Ya see? very obviously, mangafox,
is the culprit! O: Also I had firefox
and pop up-blocker!

Ofcourse, you could just use a site that doesn't jpgfies and downscales the pages like Mangahut or Mangatoshokan. Or use a combination of Domdomsoft manga downloader and CDisplay (or whatever tickles your fancy).

I almost got killed on MangaFox when I used Internet Explorer.

I've found out that it's worse on really old versions of internet explorer. It causes everything to automatically shut down. However, I switched to FireFox and everything was fixed!!!

I tend to avoid MangaFox because of problems I had there getting viruses and such. Once in a while if I really can't find another manga I'm interested in somewhere else, I'll try. I haven't been there in a long time, but it use to wreck havoc on my computer.

Also, on a computer on campus too. Whoops.
