| I watched Yu Yu Hakusho and Pokemon alongside Ed, Edd, and Eddy and Johnny Bravo. At the time, they all seemed the same to me. Didn't even know the word anime until I was in high school. |
| I thought they would be childish and boring. I started cause i couldn't find any decent TV series to watch and because there's less than 5 movies / year worth watching. So i was really bored and thought "what the heck lets give it a try" and right now i'm really happy that i did :) |

| Can't remember exactly what I thought of anime, but I know I didn't like whole "manga style". I thought it was unnecessary because you were just copying an already existing style, thus being unoriginal. Or something. That had more to do with drawing manga, though. ...Heh, how fun it is to look back to after a 180° turn :P |

| I watched Pokemon, DBZ, Digimon and all that growing up so watching it was just natural for me. As I grew up I just moved away from shounen and started watching other anime. Judging an entire medium without even looking into it is silly. It's like saying "I heard Justin Bieber and thought it was horrible, so music must be horrible." Or "I read Twilight and hated it, so books must be horrible." I could go on but I'll stop before I make people mad. >.> The point is, 90% of the time there's going to be something out there for you within each medium, if not several things. The trick is just in knowing where to look. |

| Since really small, I had access to anime, with Cantonese dub(don't live in China BTW, and anime in HK never had their openings remade as far as I can tell). The thing is that everything that seemed to me which had the better and more complex plot at the time(most of it still do) had Japanese song openings or endings instead of a generic BGM before a cartoon. So to me Japanese animation were always superior in comparison, technically I shouldn't actually comment on this topic as there was never a part of my life "before" anime. The funny realisation about it is that the best cartoons tend to have a better soundtrack, like how old Woody Woodpecker cartoons are much more interesting than most children's cartoons today and have great tunes at the same time. |

| I grow up with manga... Romance, Shonen, Shoujo, Seinen... Ecchi(Since the age of 6, though back then, I always wondered why the main characters like tits and ass so much...) So yeah, anime is always anime. But I didn't think anyone over the age of 20 would watch anime. I myself pretty much don't watch anime till around 19. |

| I didn't really think of DBZ as anime, but I remember thinking it was overrated and stupid when I was 8. It just seemed like endless scenes of characters and never actually fighting which is what the show was supposedly about. |

| Well Honestly speaking, Anime was born with me. instead of watching cartoons Like Dexter ecc. , at the age of 4 i watched Digimon and Pokemon. You know both were truly a masterpiece for me. but then , if we speak about on-going anime ecc. , the first one was Bleach and before i got into it. i thought that anime were cartoons and a usless way of wasting time. But i was wrong, because you can learn a lot from them. Like what to do before eating! Ittadakimasu~! xD, and how to enjoy your free time. |

| I was guilty of associating the entire medium with Pokemon and DBZ both of which I hated. Pokemon annoyed the crap out of me and DBZ just seemed stupid. All of the techniques that are specific to anime, even outside of other cartoons (the over-exaggerated facial expressions, the change in the eyes due to emotion, the movement markings, everything), made me hate it more. Even when I finally started watching Bleach and then Fullmetal Alchemist, those aspects still annoyed me. As I watched more, I began to appreciate their value. How in one frame they can communicate an enormous amount of emotion and give a punch of laughter stronger than without those techniques. Now I love them. I'm glad that I got into it later in life because I think that I'd have missed a lot of the subtle humor that is geared toward a mature mind. |

| I just thought they were cartoons. I started watching anime at a pretty young age with Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z, and Digimon (wasn't a Pokemon kid, thought the show was stupid). I got more and more into them and I started to realize the distinct difference between anime and traditional cartoons. |

| Never was really into watching any sort of Anime or Cartoons when i was young (since i was not allowed to do so), so when i first found out about anime was when i stumbled onto a video about it, so i thought it looks interesting and here is where i am today. | I actually saw pretty mature rated anime when I was still in grade school (Wicked City, Crying Freeman, Ninja scroll, and many more I cannot remember titles too). I always found myself more attached to watching anime or shows similar to anime than the generic everyday cartoons. Though sadly, I didn't have cable tv as a child (nor do I have it now), so I didn't have any Toonami or Adult Swim as I grew up. Though I had other channels... that aired more mature series.. again... (Uncensored version of Dragonball Z and GT <- omigawd so mach blud, Descendants of Darkness <- Shounen Ai , Fushigi Yugi, Record of Lodoss War, Slayers, etc.). tl;dr: I was aware of anime but didn't take it as serious as I do now. |

| My friend told me about her friend who knew about anime. I actually thought it was pretty cool and made an anime picture slideshow (I just googled "sad anime girls") to the song White Horse by Taylor Swift in the 6th grade, and had a pretty fun time. I never really thought much of it, but I was interested. When I eventually found the anime "Elfen Lied", I was ecstatic and discovered something wonderful and have loved it ever since. I guess I was interested in it for a while, before that I never thought much of it. |

| In the 1990s, I saw commercials for the usual suspects, then sometimes the toys and whatever merchandise there was. Aside from the art styles that I didn't like, my usual reaction was "these shows look cheesy". It took an awful lot of separate instances of tangential exposure to Japanese media to get over that. |
