The ending of this episode and series had me crying like a little child.. like many others here.

I can't express how much I feel for this character.
He has such a fragile human heart who still strives to do his very best, growing bit by bit with each arc. I'm very very proud of him... If I could I would just love to give him a hug and tell him that he's done a wonderful job. More than anything, I wish for him eternal happiness with lots of love from his new surroundings of family and friends. Having said that, he's the most human character I've meet in an anime before.

What I loved about this series the most is that they were able to tell these stories without going completely overboard with it, exaggerating on scenes or any of the drama likes. It was told in a sweet and simple fashion... like a small tale you'd hear everynight before going to bed. You can't help but actually hold these characters close to your heart. Because even if the series does contain supernatural elements, it does it in a very innocent matter without having unecessary gore, violence, and excentric drama flying about. Did I just repeat myself? Haha..

This was one of the most enjoyable series I've followed.
It calms my heart... almost like getting a reassuring hug, a pat on the head and gentle smile telling you everything will be okay in the end.

I absolutely loved it.
I give my thanks to the author and the studio who produced this ^_^

The scene of Natsume crying on the porch made me cry and just *FEEL* in a way I haven't since...hm... Sakura Taisen 2, if you go visit Okinawa with Kanna over New Years. Absolutely masterfully done. My only possible complaint about this season is I wanted more Taki. Here's hoping for more seasons.

One of the reasons I love this anime is that the emotions expressed seem very subtle and realistic, there's no melodrama. Even though it's based on the supernatural, it seems more down to earth than a lot of other anime out there.

Natsume crying at the end made me tear up. Hoping for a fifth season along with everyone else. Until then, I think I'll go read the manga ;)

This has been the best Natsume Yuujinchou until now!!

For me the first season was boring and slow, but this one, wow, the histories were excellent.

Awwww. Sweet. Natsume's feelings also moved me.
Hope to have more seasons. I don't want this to be the end.
Still, this season was a great one. It depicted the past of Takashi, and who he is right now. :D

Thumbs Up! 10/10

Indeed, a very strong finish. The fourth season of Natsume had a strong beginning and ending, while the middle-episodes were not up to par but still very good!
If this is the actual end, then it is a satisfying way to go. However, beyond anything, I hope this isn't the last of the series. I've watched quite a few anime titles in my time, but Natsume Yujinchou's consistency across seasons and the genuine emotions is second to none. And Natsume, as a character, is someone who deserves happiness and all the good things in the world granted to him.

It was hard holding back my tears this episode. Almost as hard as the time I watch Clannad ~After Story~ episode 18.

As soon as the flash back ended and the monster show up, I was in a fit of rage... Just kill that fucking evil youkai, seriously, just kill it... Any youkai that contribute to Natsume's sadness should be destroyed, and good job Madara, chew that thing up!

Natsume never change don't he? He still hid embarrassing things behind closets ^_^

I'm very glad that Natsume cried, it's okay Natsume, you can finally let go and cry for yourself. You did not cry because you're weak, but because you're been strong for a long time. T_T

I cried so hard over this episode. I cried for many episodes, but this was different. The tears wouldn't stop, and just when I thought they would, there was Natsume, crying on the porch. My heart broke. But my eyes still knew how to produce tears. That last episode evoked so much emotion out of me. Really hoping for a season 5.

Ughhh I cried so much this season but this had my heart ache a lot more than other episodes, especially when Natsume started crying himself when he remebered his dad words... I felt so sorry for him, he had such a cold and lonely childhood...

I can't describe how much I'm hoping for a 5th season, it doesn't matter when but please let there be a 5th season when there's enough material from the manga! ~

PLEASE LET THERE BE A SEASON 5!!!!! THIS SERIES IS JUST TOO BEAUTIFUL

This final episode really touched me, concerning Takashi and his memories of his family. His dreams of being together with his mom and dad that could never have been, I completely see Tohko and Shigeru filling in that painful void, as well as Madara-sensei.

Throughout the whole series, we have seen many memories of Takashi's lonely and painful past, but looking at him now, he's been through so much and fought through it all, even making so many friends of both humans and youaki alike.
This series is just overall so heartwarming and uplifting.

Honestly, just after finishing this episode, I was speechless at just how magnificent this series ended. It was truly hard trying to not cry throughout the whole anime. Words cannot express on how comforting this anime was.

As for the idea of a 5th season, I was hoping for one, until I saw the "The End." However, if there was to be one, I was hoping for a season where Natsume desires to find out about his parents' history through both his relatives and the youkai. Was going to say Reiko too, but we already know somewhat about her.

Anyways, truly one of the best anime! A 10/10 for this!

Another heartwarming end to this series with more background and depth on Natsume's past and his biological family and friendship (bromance) with Tanuma with some nice flashback episode, aswell as that story with that one youkai imitating that womans lover in the shrine. "Thank you for telling me the truth" aww~

I really hated that Youkai interfering Natsume's visit to his childhood roots. Good job! Nyanko-sensei getting rid of that vermin eating insect Youkai...eughh, still needs moar Reiko stories! which this season is obviously is lacking with (and Taki) Season 5 where? I shall await for it!

DAT ENDING!! Damn, easily the best Natsume Yuujinchou season for me. Unlike the tradition being followed since the first season, this consisted both development as a franchise and episodic nature. And, of course, it brought both out beautifully. 8/10.

I just finished Natsume Yuujinchou Shi, it was really good, delved more into Natsume's past, which I didn't mind, in general, I think the 4th season was a little weaker than season 3 though. However, season 4 had some really interesting arcs like the Omibashra arc, the Moon-Splitting Festival arc and the Ryokka Forest arc, I really enjoyed them as it showed how Natsume worked with his other human friends like Natori and Tanuma.

However, the last arc which involved Natsume going back to his parent's house, I wasn't too fond of it, I mean I don't mind flashbacks but sometimes they just annoy me at times (I guess it's because I wasted my time watching the TV series, Lost) but the last episode was almost 75% flashback, it just sorta ticked me off. I mean it is probably an ideal place to end the 4th season and is probably why they ordered the arcs differently to how the manga presented them, so that Natsume goes back home to the Fujiwara's.

My score for season 4 is 9/10, I'll be reading the manga soon. I'm hoping a season 5 will eventually be made but there isn't enough material right now for it. ;)

Over the last month or so I catched up with this series and sadly finished it now.
I'd say that this 4th season is by far the strongest. For one reason it had better stories to tell. (Exceptions included, i.e. S3E1. That cup youkai that sacrificed itself to rescue Natsume, that was beautiful.)
Another reason would be no lack of companions. While S1 and to some lesser extent S2 where just about Natsume and Ponta it changed a lot now. Sure, that's part of the overall story of Natsume finding his place but I found it not entirely boring but very dragging at times in S1 and S2. There was something missing. Making these weak 8/10 for me.
S3 improved a lot as well but as I said, I found the stories better in S4, still S3 is a strong 9/10.
Therefore I'd say 10/10 for this season. I highly enjoyed it throughout each epsiode and I found the last episode was a nice closure for the time being.
I think it's likely that there's a 5th season some time, they can't let all the things hang around as it is. :P

Same here...I cried for most of this episode Q_Q Natsume truly suffered a lot for a kid, and overall his childhood. I cried when Miyoko started hitting Natsume (ugh that Miyoko) and Natsume ran away. It was so heartbreaking when he said that he eventually stopped calling out to someone who will never answer back...and the when he was crying on the porch at his old home, by then I was bawling and heart physically hurt. The ending was such a huge contrast to the rest of the episode, that my tears couldn't stop, but it was mostly happy tears. Once again, the last episode of the season showed Natsume and his friends, both human and youkai, and this time, also the Fujiwaras. Please tell me there will be a 5th season, I don't care how long I have to wait, as long as Natsume Yuujinchou is not yet over ^^

I can't recall Natsume ever openly crying before, other than on this porch, finally reconciling with what small memories of his father he has left. His father does seem like such a kind man. UGH, the tears! I'm with everybody here, when the ending credits started to roll, as this series is wont to do, my ole tear ducts got a work out.

What wonderful closure that last scene gave. Hats off to the animation/music/voice actors! Hope we get to see Natsume again!
