THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Wow, first of all, I'm surprised that I'm first who made this thread. Probably most of you (just like me) were watching that series when was a kid.
The reason why I want to watch it again is that I barely remember what was that action all about and I'm not even sure if I did finish it. I don't like leave things like that (as I don't even remember which episode was my last one), so with a bit of fondness I'm starting! ;)

As for the 1st episode. I just realised that it might be harder than I thought :D Dialogues are so cheap and good only for kids -_- For example: "I'm going to punish you for the whole evil you've done to me" xD And what is even worse: the quality is soooo loooow and it's French+Polish dubbing, omg! Wish me luck, but I'm going to force myself to watch it (if needed).

113 episodes left, yeah!

edit: I've just watched Japanese dubbed version with English subs and looks like my previous version was censored :/ So now I have to choose between blurred subs (during some hot actions) and censored French-Polish dubbing. Geez :/

2/5 for now (it should be better from ep to ep I believe)

I can't believe that I missed this show as a kid, or if I didn't I long since forgot about it in favor of GI Joes and Transformers. I watched a remastered version in Japanese w English subtitles, and it looks uncensored (unless we see the green-haired girl's boob when Seiya cuts her strap). The quality of both the video and the subtitles are very good, especially considering it's footage from the 80's. Impressive amounts of blood and violence, I'm sure the US version "cleaned" most of that up (severed ears anyone?).

One thing that bothered me is that Seiya suddenly develops a phobia of fighting or hitting girls, midway through his fight with green-hair. He didn't seem at all bothered when he fucked up her arm. Did cutting her strap remind him of who he was fighting?

5/5, I'm looking forward to watching the rest of this, though I've heard the subs take a turn for the worst midway through.

I never got to see this series when I was a kid so I'm giving it a shot this time around. The style is really old school, the pace is slow but I'm positive that as it progresses it will get better.

I’ve started to re-watch it recently with a friend of mine… can’t say I remember much, since it was the first anime I saw… when I re-saw this first episode, I’ve realized I must suffer from memory loss or something… I swear I didn’t remember the city on fire in the beginning and thousands other scenes, Seiya’s fight for the Pegasus bronze armor was clear in my mind, but everything else in this particular episode almost looked new for me.
Far now I’m at episode 33, feeling super nostalgic and enjoying everything.

I actually thought the introduction seemed a bit rushed. I think it would have been better if there was 2 or 3 episodes to create a believable bond between the main character and his master and to pan out the tournament a bit. Still, this doesn't seem like an awful show, gonna give it a few more episodes before I decide to stick with it or not.

LOL What is it with these people stomping their opponent xD

This was quite fun. But I'm pretty sure I won't enjoy every episode as much as this one.

5/5

I watched this when I was about 7 or 8 if I'm not wrong? This show flashed through my mind when I saw the new anime "Saint Seiya Omega". It was the first anime I'd watched(if I excluded Pokemon and Digimon)

This anime doesn't waste time, jumps right into action.

Hopefully Seiya doesn't get to fight many females.

That "Cassius" is supposed to be a Greek?FSN's Berserker looks more human.

At least the personality(of every supposed Greek char in this ep) really matches with some Greeks.

This whole episode is scenery porn. Does anything else look like this? With thousands of stars in the night sky during some unimportant establishing fight?

That was alright though him not wanting to fight the chick that was trying to kill him because it was a woman was pretty lame. Just sounded like an excuse for getting his ass whooped lol

After years of ignoring it, I decided to watch the series for the first time. Knowing this was made by Toei Animation, same studio that gave us Hokuto No ken, is I can see the influence here and there.

So, everybody wants to be a knight of Athena, but only a specific few can weild the zodiac armor. Seiya, a japanese boy, has been in Greece for years, training to obtain it. And he got it, ripping the other guy ear. Brutal.

After a fight with the masked woman Shina, who looks like Shun with boobs, Seiya manages to use the power to control the armor. At first, is too heavy for him to use, but anticlimactically he manages to get the grip of the armor and beat the bad guys.

Yeah, this is the 80's alright.I'll keep watching.

It's very interesting to see the female saints right in the beginning of the show, considering that later Kuramada wanted a good excuse to make a group of female saints without mask (Saintia Shou spin-off).

Never watched this as a kid but been interested in it for a while.

This being as long as it is I'll probably put it on hold every major arc so Gold Saints arc (75 episodes in) will be the testing point where I decide whether to continue or drop.

I know many of you may dislike the old animation and cheesiness but don't drop it yet. This anime is seriously underrated. In Saint Seiya you will find incredible characters, violence (blood), mythological elements, epic fights, an awesome OST and a decent plot. The first arc isn't bad but the history starts to improve by the 40th episode and then it's epicness overload. ;)

It feels like I got thrown into a middle of a story with missing info. Hopefully it gets better with more episodes.

So far I'm getting vibes of great value Hokuto no Ken.

Watching this back-to-back with Ring ni Kakero, and yep, these sure are two Toei adaptations of a 70's manga from the same mangaka. I gotta say though, the first episode of this was way better. As with Ring ni Kakero, the art style here is amazing, and has the charm that comes easy to anime like this.

OP and ED ain't quite my jam, but they ain't bad.

I don't know what else to say, other than that this sort of anime usually isn't something I'd watch. Maybe I'll watch more of it, besides, I really do like what I've seen so far. If it's comparable to Dragon Quest: Dai no Daiboken (1991), then I just might stick through the whole thing.

Also apparently this anime is well known? Evaded my radar up until now.

after watching it for three times already this two episodes reveal a lot, but you have to retain it for 123 eps to make sense and see the whole picture even, I kinda like the concept kuramada is trying to develop but it doesn't flow very well and toei doesn't help either. the cosmic wars out there but represented by people is a nice parallel... with a plus of Greek tragedies... Anyway 4/5 for this.
