What the summary doesn't say is that it's a fairly realistic look into the lives of two children with gender identity disorder and their struggles with their peers, their families and themselves coming to terms with the fact that they are simply different. That being said, it's a beautiful manga, and I fully suggest anyone with the slightest bit of interest check it out. |

I must admit, I never thought it would be adapted into an anime as I thought the conservative Japanese society might be sensitive to the issue of gender identity disorder in children. Anyhoo, Im definitely looking forward to checking out how they portray the characters & their relationships. x |

| Very good news, it's clearly my favourite of Shimura's work. And while I'm slightly doubtful on how well an adaption would work, Aoi Hana did, and that had a lot less charm than Houro Musuko. |

I had been hoping for this ever since I started reading the manga, but seriously didn't think this would ever happen… I was already surprised enough when the Aoi Hana anime was announced, and always thought the issues addressed in Hourou Musuko were too sensitive for it to get a TV adaptation. Here's hoping it will be adapted with the same flair and sensibility that graced the Aoi Hana anime… I can't express just how excited I am about this. Best news I've read all month! :) |
