Exactly, there are already gfx communities for this type of thing, MAL isn't exactly a place for graphics at all. there are competitions we do, cause some people here can use Ps and design things, so gfx sig went too far to make it serious. I'd like to see it go on a little bit more though, it is a good idea.

Taking contest seriously isn't a bad thing, it means that you'll get some better quality entries. If you take it too far like what ha[[ened though....<_< MAL isn't a graphics community, people who start photoshop cause of MAL will likely make profiles, or MAL type signatures, rather than gfx sigs, so I don't really see much a future for gfx sig anymore.
It's none of my concern either, I thought it was a pretty cool idea, but it ended up failing, but it hasn't died...yet.
Oh by the way, I'm guessing GESC isn't an official MAL award yet?

Well, I took GESC as a competition where you make sigs that are anything but MAL sigs, so it would take the non-update part from gfx but isn't as strict on crops n such like best sig. But like you said, it doesn't have to be sigs anymore..>_>
I don't think gfx should have ended up so serious. What I'm more worried about is that more people would feel inclined to enter GESC rather than gfx sig, because there aren't a lot of people who even do gfx work that often. A competition between 4-5 people isn't that fun.
I'd love to see some LP works, or wallpapers.
