That was great. I like how we explore a more vulnerable side of some of the characters.

Apparently, there's rumors of a scandal in the rakugo world. The melancholic atmosphere has a more contrasting mood imo this episode than the previous one. The rakugo performance was good as usual, loved the expressive tones used to bring entertainment.

Even though OP already revealed on Youtube, it officially aired on TV this ep.

TV airing bad rumor about Sukeroku being ex-yakuza, and that seems to affect his rakugo and number of his audiences. Ishida-san's character showing his kindness and regret through the baby and reading his late friend's rakugo. The lady is contradicting for her hate between approving his rakugo.

Wow @ rakugo name for the colleague. Sukeroku trying to his best to save what his colleague failed but making it worse. Facing the past... The writer and Ishida-san's character finally meet. It seems like the writer is interested in "that" story more.

27:10 next. The lady is... and Ishida-san's character's body is in limit?

Oof! Now that was a painful episode. Right from the op, which itself seemed to give off a melancholic tone. The overcast skies were certainly gloomy as Yotaro's past began catching up with him. I remember an episode of a certain series I watched last year where the big twist revolved around a hidden yakuza tattoo and getting angry over it, how it implied the sins of the past could never be forgiven. Some similar sentiments swelled up within me here. And seeing Yotaro's pained performance, his sweating and twitching, it was difficult to sit through. He's got a long way to go.

And that's not even mentioning Konatsu! Who was she with at the end there? Her baby's father? More on that next week no doubt, but after their opening scene together it has certainly left me troubled. And just to add one more bit of gloom we got her tearful sleep and promise of murder towards Yakumo, who just wants to be put out of his misery. Sheesh...well, at least the kid was cute! XD

ooh that ending. Who could that be? Maybe it's just a misunderstanding?

I'm really missing the great rakugo performances from last season. We'll probably have to wait until Sukeroku finds his own style to get them though.

Hmmm very interesting, I wonder if the man at the end with the umbrella could be the baby's biological father? Hope Yotaro gets back to top form soon, poor guy. That part with grumpy old rakugo grandad being bothered by the baby was cute, amazing so far.

Yotaro's performance was really bad for two reasons IMO.

He forced literally everything out. Made it very uncomfortable to watch. Ended up in being a rushed performance as well.

And he was visibly waiting for any reaction of the audience which really hurt his timing.

Next episode looks big. We know now that the writer has some more information on Yakumo's backstory as he knows about Miyokichi.

And the preview doesn't look good at all for Yakumo as he is seemingly in pain and right after that scene, a white lily is shown and that's not a good sign.

It seems the rejected apprentice may have hidden motives. Also, it seems the father of the child may be that man in the last scene. Poor Yota. I wonder what his rakugo will be like.

Damn I was feeling for Yota during his failed performance. I really want him to find a path.

Also very heartwarming scene with Yota and Yakumo about accepting past sins. Something that affects both of them. I also liked the scene with Yakumo and Konatsu, and how it related to when she was a kid. Heartwarming stuff.

I also had some good laughs this episode.

Opening is very ominous.

In the preview the man at the end is the Yakuza boss of the group Yotaro and his big bro from S1 Ep1 belong too. I don't think he is the father from looking at a few raws of the manga but I couldn't say for sure.

I don't blame him one bit....The entire town/city are acting like idiots over this damn Yakuza thing and are punishing him for it even though he never really was in the Yakuza and cut ties with them ages ago

It really pissed me off to see how much slack he and everyone around him were getting tbh but I digress

The scene with Konatsu and Yakumo was so sad and gloomy :( And her son is so cute lol...But the next episode has me concerned out of my mind. Like who the hell is that guy that Konatsu was with at the end

So there are rumours spreading around about Yotaro's past and it's affecting him badly. He isn't getting work and he's a bit in a slump. They showed the whole performance to show that Yotaro isn't going well. The part where everyone was supposed to laugh didn't get even a smile. And Yotaro half stripped to boot. He now has to overcome this problem by facing his past and accepting it. And that writer guy once came to Yakumo as an apprentice but wasn't taken in and now he's back. He wants rakugo to flourish and not go to Yakumo's grave. And he knows a lot. Now to see how Yotaro overcomes the problems he's facing.

Things are getting a little interesting now.
Yakumo and Konatsu's relationship is interesting because she still despises him for her fathers Death yet wants her child to hear his Rakugo.
Yota is in one hell of a rut, the articles about him being in Yakuza, companies dropping him, and worrying about his relationship and possible marriage with Konatsu. It's definitely taking one hell of a toll on him.

That ending kinda broke my heart, that was definitely the baby daddy in the car. Looks like next week things will get even more intense.

Good episode.
I like how it showed the serious stance on Yotaro's side now. It was hard watching him with his hyper energy all the time.

I really want to know what Konatsu is talking about when she said Yakumo is a murderer. Looking forward to the revelation~

Hmm who could that person in the car might be? Is he that kid's father?

It's a real shame that the discussion threads for this anime are so barren compared to some of the other flashier entries for this season.

Yakumo continues to be a brilliant character, his dialogue with Konatsu at the beginning of the episode was hauntingly beautiful and his scenes with the baby and Yotaru were so heartwarming. Even before that ominous opening, I sort of expect Yakumo to pass away this season, I just hope it's not too soon.

Yota's performances this episode were noticeably uncomfortable, damn. I'm nervous for what's to come, especially regarding the baby's father and Yakumo's health.

Looking forward to next week!

Anime was the catalyst of my life's downward spiral.

I still can't totally dismiss an idea that Yakumo is the father though from the ending now it seems yakuza boss is the one.
Surely the child would be pampered when he is the child of mafia boss.

All of the yelling and stomping around the baby in the opening bothered me.

Sukeroku's frustration with trying to find his own rakugu style was welcome because it briefly toned him down, and showed a side of his personality other than perpetual enthusiasm.

Yakumo seems so miserable...

Best OP of the season.

I love Yakumo, even though he usually looks sad about his life. I hope he can find happiness somehow. The advice he gave to Yotaro was perfect.

I don't know if I understood correctly but the guy with glasses doesn't like Yakumo and wants to destroy him in order to create a new rakugo?

Poor Yotaro. I could really tell throughout his whole performance how uneasy he was. I really hope he finds his own Rakugo style soon. I actually kind of felt secondhand embarrassment when he got half-naked during that performance. Though, this'll definitely be a learning experience, which is great. I'm super excited for more!

I feel bad for Yotaro. He's so eager to start anew and throw away everything that reminds him of his sinful past (getting a haircut, becoming shin'uichi, getting married, raising a child, taking on a whole different name etc.) that he didn't realize that cutting off a part of himself will only cripple him further. The comparison might be a bit out there but he reminds me of Shigeo in the early stage of Mob Psycho's story and how much rejecting his own powers handicapped him in the end. By choosing his path according to the sins he carries instead of carrying his sins on whichever path he chooses (thx KnK for the quote), Yotaro is only making it harder for himself to find his own rakugo.

Yakumo gave him some great piece of advice this episode.

When Bon - I mean, Yakumo, was reciting Rakugo for Konatsu and she had flashes of Sukeroku reciting it to her... Oh, my heart. Plus, Yakumo and Konatsu's kid. PLUS, Yakumo saying that he didn't kill himself because he had to take care of Konatsu, and that he waited for her to finally kill him... I can't even. My heart is in great pain.

For real tho, every time they take up like 5 minutes just to show a performance I'm mad. I realize that some stories are foreshadowing or reflect on what's happening, that it's supposed to be deep and all and I'm trying to read between the lines but I wish they would just move the plot along like they finally did in season one once the retrospect part begun. Maybe I'm not sophisticated enough to enjoy rakugo for what it is lol. I think in a short show like that I want to see more interactions between characters and basically things happening.

to be fair i think the "boringness" of Yotaro's perf was intentional in this episode.
