This coming weekend on the 27-28th there will be a super lunar moon. Basically if you know anything about the moon it's when a lunar eclipse occurs during a supermoon. Now, granted supermoon isn't an official astronomical term, but it describes when the moon is closer than usual during a full moon or new moon.

Supermoon: A full or new Moon that occurs when the Moon is less than 360,000 kilometers (ca. 223,694 miles) from the center of the Earth.

The significance in all this is the event is a rare occurrence. The last one of its kind to happen was back in 1982. The next estimated time it will happen is in 18 years or 2033. So, if you're ever planning to view a lunar eclipse this weekend would be the time. It's estimated the moon will be 12-14% bigger and 30% brighter. If you've been hearing people call it a blood moon there's a link that explains some of the reasoning behind it as well as any questions you might have in general.

Personally, I'm not going to miss it unless the weather decides to be troublesome. I've seen lunar moons in the past, but never a super lunar moon. The last one was well before my time and the next one I might or might not be able to see.

Even if I could see it, provided there were a clear enough Sky, I wouldn't stay up late or wake up early at around 4:45 in the Morning just to see a slightly bigger Moon.

Actually, I don't find Lunar Eclipses to be any interesting, as opposed to Solar ones.

Timezones and too little Interest in these particular Phenomena won't convince me to stay up late or wake up early.

If it had been prospected at a better I Time, I would've decided to at least take a Look at it, but I'm not going out of my Way to watch something just for the Sake of watching it.

Yeah, I can understand that. You have to have an interest to be willing to take time away from sleep or other commitments. I just thought you misinterpreted what it was when you mentioned only a supermoon.

Just in time for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Cool.

Too bad I live in California. I probably won't see much of it, because by the time it gets dark, much of it would have already passed.

Thanks, person who gave me this on another site a long time ago, lol.

Pretty good. Sky is perfectly clear for the first time in about 5 attempts of looking at things in space.

Easily better than the solar eclipse at the end of the 90s.

I'm on edt, it's 10:48, and lord help me, the moon has gone missing! It's the mars aliens NASA was preparing to warn us about that are causing this phenomenon.

That name is pretty silly, it's super because it's close to earth? That's awful shortsighted, like, we should know we're not the center of existence by now.

A shame our eastern friends can't see it.

It wasn't that bad here. In order to get absolutely no light pollution you have to go out in the middle of nowhere in the Pacific Ocean if I remember right. I'm sure camping at the bottom of the Grand Canyon or something would have been good enough too.
