I actually got the most satisfaction when Hachiman's skewed perspectives were proved right. I want to see him grow and make friends and end up with one of the girls, but without abandoning his world view. I would rather see him compromise then change the way he sees things altogether.

Korrvo said:
But a dissection of that lifestyle instead of straight up glorifying it could also be considered great for that target audience as well.

Like, the guy Hachiman is was totally me during parts of High school, but I totally what to see what Hachiman ends up being as well. I absolutely adore Hachiman's character, but being that same character for ever and ever just sounds like such a bad idea.

I mean, I don't want to see him be a goody goody either, just changed for the better somewhat.

Laciie said:

Yeah I definitely agree. I relate to Hachiman in that I am anti-social myself, but I don't exactly want to be like this forever, I want to improve in the future. Like that I want Hachiman to eventually develop from being an anti-social person to someone who's actually confident to be at least a little outgoing. I wouldn't say he didn't go through any development at all in season one, just very minimal. I'd like to see some more.

I share somewhat similar feelings to the three of you, I think. I like Hachiman because he is in some ways similar to me, most specifically in that he's a very negative person and is rather anti-social. Yet I also want to see him change his attitude and behavior a bit. The thing is, I feel like the show already is a "dissection of [his] lifestyle" and that Hachiman has actually undergone a fair amount of change in the first season.

The following is spoilered because I've referenced a number of specific scenes from the anime, including scenes at the end.

tl;dr: I like the show because it is a serious look at Hachiman's life that considers and presents both the positives and the negatives rather than a mere glorification or condemnation.

I very much want to see this story animated all the way through to the conclusion, even if that conclusion isn't written yet.

Mixed feelings. Didn't have the hype for this since season 1 ended off pretty stale for me. Just your unusual antisocial MC with forgettable characters...
-

I've always... always been watching you... This whole time... Because you were there... That's why I was able to try hard. So you could have some balance! So you wouldn't treat me like a kid! So you would see me as an actual girl! Even while you were gone... You were right here! You were right here in my heart!

A good series, but I'm waiting for the official confirmation before celebrating, however reliable that image may look.

>People calling Hachiman a static character

Why are you ignoring his character development in the first season as see him as a one dimensional character?

If he suddenly changed to a different person in the first season, that would be totally rushed and out of place. The anime adapted an ongoing light novel, that's why we're getting a second season in the first place.

The ending wasn't the most satisfying since the story was pretty much cut short to fit one season, but still, he showed some qualities of changing as a person, for example

I think his character is not only relateable to unsociable Otakus.
Everyone have their moments when they just want to say 'fuck it all, I want to be alone', and the way Watari Wataru has built his character is really intriguing, all the monologues can get even very sociable people into his shoes and understand his way of thinking.

The second season announced so shortly is exactly what I waited for.
When I heard Watari has an important announcement to make, I deeply inside hoped for a second season, and when I saw it, it cheered me up immediately.

And yes, the biggest thing I anticipate in this second season is more of his character development and continued change.
If you think Hachiman is a homage to the most unsociable person in the planet, you're wrong.
Hachiman doesn't only think about himself in the end. If he did, we would've gotten 13 episodes of him sitting in the corner and listening to music with his earphones, not giving a shit about his sister even, that wouldn't even be made into an anime.
I believe he interacts with people not only because it's needed, he doesn't hate almost nobody, I also believe he plays it cool and edgy because something triggered the change inside of himself.

Lastly, the title of the series is obviously 'My youth romantic comedy is wrong as I expected', meaning he's only in his youth period himself, and even if he curses it, he can't change the fact that he is a teenager.
Like all of you, I'm interested in seeing him maturing and seeing the world differently.
That's why this second season announcement is very much more than welcome.

I actually liked the first 3 or 4 episodes but then it became repetitive and pointless. The last arc of season 1 was terrible but whateve I will probably watch it. Maybe it's going to be better but I doubt it lel.

^ THIS.

I've been waiting for a 2nd season just for THIS.
I seriously want to see a little bit of "real" romance in this thing please. It was seriously sooo frustrating the first season, hopefully they can make it better with the 2nd season.

Just as I expected, another romantic comedy will go horribly wrong with this new season of My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU.

I didn't really like it at first, but it's started to improve. Looks like the second season just might be as good as everyone says the anime is!

I hope the show will actually go somewhere now. The first season was entertaining, it was one of the more enjoyable shows with harem elements, but it just didn't go anywhere.

Am I the only one who wanted Hachiman to change? I mean, I liked him, but everybody seems to like him for his emo/depressed/I hate the world/the world hates me attitude. Which is understandable, and relatable (especially to a bunch of anime nerds). But, he wasn't exactly happy. In fact, he was quite miserable. I like his character because he feels real and very sympathetic, not because of his (at times glorified) depression. I want him to eventually drop the immature angsty begrudging outlook on life, and actually grow and develop as a person.

The show was set up to do that, having him make friends, become more involved, etc. But it seems like the fanbase wants none of it. I remember somebody on here in one of the episode discussions saying something like "if he changes, he won't be interesting as a character any more". Which I found puzzling, because I find him interesting not because of generic teenage angst, but because I was actually emotionally invested in his character, and cared about his potential development. I wanted to see him happy. My interest was literally held by the promise of character development. Having his attitude remain static (which ended up happening at the end of the first season), is the most disappointing thing possible. Yes, even more disappointing than the fact that the romance went nowhere as well. Maybe that's just me though...

Anyway, I have very high expectations for this.

Well, you answered it for yourself.
It is about appealing to the consumer here and the consumer doesn't want good character development - he wants his own lifestyle to be glorified and praised.
This attitude was what made me drop the show early on and I am glad you confirm my suspicions.

Wait wait, I think you missed something here. "The show was set up to do that" is correct, Hachiman and people around him already made a bunch of developments in the series (despite of some people who didn't want Hachiman to change), and the last arc basically is a time bomb made to explode in the next season.

Yet, you were using that as a justification to glorify your "I'm glad I dropped this series lel" comment. The series has a fine development and basically cropped before what most people guess the "WHAM" contents (both in personal development and possibly romance), and yet you are assuming that it didn't and won't have a good character development? Some fans who didn't want Hachiman to change (at all) could have their right to want that, but I think you just judged a series by its fans, not by the series itself. Also, I think they are just minorities and I think most people would love to see Hachiman ideals hitting bricks next season. I'm sure he could learn a lesson or two without completely abandoning his true self.

Ah well, what I'm doing here again? Oh right, to celebrate! Yay, a second season! It's not a masterpiece by any means, but it has a lot of potential indeed! Eagerly waiting for moar good things to be explored :3
