WOWWW i can only hope this will be as much of a mindfuck as utena at this point. amazing episode. this is gonna be a rough week of waiting. i think the death note's appearance is rather symbolic. ringo will go to whatever means necessary to make her "fate" become a reality. i couldnt get over the utena-ness of everything. i mean really. wow. "eternal" and that was SO sekai no hate on the other line. sooooooo excited to see where this goes. really happy survival strategy was in there too. 5/5 for the ep

Oh gods, I love this series.

So many good parts, but I couldn't stop laughing when Mr. Moray Eel suddenly appeared.

"I'm a moray eel!"

Marvelous.

As for Natsume Masako, 'M' she's referring to might be 'Project Marunouchi' (as in Marunouchi Subway Line) which would explain the speculations about this anime having something to do with 1995 Sarin gas attack and the recurring subway theme (let's not forget number 95 in the OP) in the anime. And all the stations on this line have 'M' in their name. Well, 'tis just a speculation.
VERY NICE! That is an amazing reference to think of. Indeed it could be reminder for several reasons, one being a remembrance thing or 2 someone working on ths anime is a survivor of it and wants to express in this anime perhaps? In any case it will EPIC should they feature it, for I did not see much of those around in anime.

I most likely suspect a link to Schrodinger's cat but what is the meaning and association of it towards the teacher's mention of how the world appears to him after Momoka's death? That is the complex philosophical thing I wonder now about.
The cats may represent Momoka and Tabuki. So after Momoka dies, only Tabuki is left. The Schroedinger's cat may mean that
Interesting and so the notion of being alive can mean much more like Momoka being around veiling upon Ringo or just that Momoka is observing from heavens Ringo. Interesting start there buddy.

An interesting explanation. I like that idea, been thinking how Schroedinger's cat could be related to Ringo and her sister.

Well, it's but a speculation at the moment, but i can't wait to see if the plot turns out to be somehow related to it. And I agree, that would be EPIC.

Another thing I just remembered. Ringo's birthday as well as her sister's death are on the 20th (I don't think it was mentioned which month though) and these subway attacks were carried out on March 20. Damn, that just piqued my curiosity even more.
EDIT: CORRECTION - it was mentioned (well, shown) and it's March indeed

One of the things I like about this anime are those two female characters in subway public service announcements (btw, they are very reminiscent of the two girls in the ED) who seem to have the purpose of foreshadowing of what is to come similar to the shadow girls in Utena. It's nothing obtrusive, but it's quite interesting. Though I didn't quite get their meaning in this episode.

Hibari and Hikari are their names, they are Double H. They are also the ones who sings the Survival Strategy song-their group is called Triple H. I think they also sang the song in episode 5 where Kanba and his dad were making a man-to-man promise.

I missed this so much, it was a very slow week..

Well, we know now that Ringo is really doing all this as her sister's replacement. Kinda sad if you ask me, being obsessed with something like that. Does that mean that she isn't actually in love with Tabuki?

Ringo's past/flash back was interesting. I didn't know whether to laugh or to be sad, in the end my face holds a weird mixture of both.
Though I'm not sure what was up with the giant eel and the little bit after that...

Can't wait to see what happens next!

Even more interesting to note is that Ringo was born on March 20th 1995 which was the year that the attacks were carried out.(this is episode 3 around 12:00)
Tabuki graduated high school in 2006, remember that.

That Episode 3 flashback is extremely similar to the flashback we get in this episode around the 12:20 mark, which would take place one year prior, in 2005:
They even use the same calender, so March 20th 2006 and March 20th 2005 are both on a Sunday.

Now, getting the year for Momoka's death is considerably harder. All we have to work with is this:

That would imply that Momoka died on or before '94, but that seems a bit absurd since Tabuki would have only been 6 at the very oldest when Momoka died(Tabuki graduated High School in '06). If she died after '94, then that would imply that they had anticipated needing to let go of Momoka. Of course we still don't know how Momoka died, so maybe they did. Perhaps she, like Himari, had a terminal disease. Or maybe I'm reading too much into a couple lines of dialogue.

Anyway, interesting episode. Ringo's such a good girl, trying to replace her dead sister like her parents wanted her to. Just a hunch, but I think that M might refer to memory.

Also, personally, I find Natsume to be the most interesting female in the show.

Great episode.

We got to know how did Ringo came to be. Her level of being a psycho + stalker is over 9000!!!

And the shooter girl and the black penguin shows up at the end. It's getting more interesting.

And once again, those penguins sure are laughable esp. No.1 who reads pornmags. xD

I like how Ringo's actions are somewhat justifiable now, since she's only doing it so that her family won't drift apart. That said, this show is really aiming for Ringo and Shouma to be together, and well, I think that's okay.

Well until now i noticed that all the events where also happening with Shouma too. But this episode confused me a little because Shouma wasn't there spending the nigh with her.
I though she will get sick and he will end up spending the nigh by her bed but she manage to get up and go to the teachers house. Now am a little confused.

Heh, I do that all the time, that's a part of what makes anime like this so fun.

I mean, I think I've gone so far that I can see a possible representations of seven deadly sins in the penguins characters (even though so far we only have 4 penguins).
Of course, it's way more plausible to say they're mirroring their partners, but hey, I like far-fetched speculations xD

Another great episode which was every bit as good as episode 5. Things are really getting going now.

Now let's speculate about the significance of the moray eel that appeared from nowhere during Ringo's flashback thing with the dolls. It may seem completely random, but knowing Ikuhara, I'm pretty sure it isn't. I wouldn't be surprised if it symbolized another character saying or doing something to drive Ringo's parents even further apart. The question is who or what it is symbolizing. It could be Masako, it could be Tabuki, or it could be a character who is yet to be introduced, like that pink-haired guy person in the OP.

In the previous episode Ringo's father had an eel charm on his phone which replaced the penguin one Ringo gave him. Maybe it has something to do with another person or just that it's the idea of the moray eel splitting apart the family.

Hey Ringo's got some sad-past-resulting-in-a-psycho-manner shield! (can't bring myself to look up the trope) Ha, she does, she does need serious help. But, no, not Shouma. He'd be better off with Himari, seriously.

So now only Kanda and Natsume gets the serious focus on plot. Unravel, then, mystery.

Oh btw I feel like gotten trolled, is the diary really the penguindrum? Now we know that it's officially written by Ringo herself so...

I almost want to stop watching this show because it's ridiculously depressing. Ringo's story is painfully tragic and it hits home with me pretty hard because of the relationship I have with my sister.

I'm kinda hoping Ringo ends up with Tabuki just because that other lady he's with still seems like a ho. But if she ended up with Sho, that'd be cute too.

Ringo continues to be a fascinating character. Ikuhara has always been great at characterization but Ringo has got to be one of his better ones. It's crazy how this show can be incredibly funny, dramatic, depressing, and many other things all in one scene.
