Okita Soji is awesome! I'm watching this OVA first, but it looks like I'll be continuing with the series!
Your search on "Oran Solus" returned the following quotes:

Very very good.

Not sure about that whole sword sheath analogy thing :O I can has Euphemism?

Nice skills... Unfortunately i hear the tv series is not much like the OVA, that it's lighter and more humorous etc.

Alot slower than the first part, but serves as a great buildup to the finale.

I can't help but smile whenever someone says Katsura's name because the Katsura from Gintama instantly pops up in my head whenever I hear it. Similar thing with Okita and the Shinsengumi on the whole. And don't even get me started on those headbands...

Other than that, still awesome. Now I only need to get ep 3 and 4 from somewhere...

Awesome just like the first OVA, and the action was a step up from the first. However, I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first, still 9/10 material though.

A little bit protracted compared to the other OVAs, but still good character development and interaction.

Still not quite sure what to make of this, but it is pretty good, I guess. I must be (clearly) one of the few that isn't totally drawn into this. Maybe because I haven't seen the series yet...? <_<'' (I thought this was supposed to come before the series, so I'm watching it first...)

Anyway, it was slow but...

Guess I wasn't paying enough attention in the first episode, all the jumps in time and similar-looking characters led me to think that kid swordsman was Kenshin as a child. Didn't make much sense to me then, now it's obvious why...

Can't really get into this anyway. Something tells me this romance isn't going to end well !!!

I agree it's not as good as the first episode. All these names and conflicts and such left me so confused, so it led me into stopping half way into the episode to do some brief Japanese history research - I was actually entirely unaware Rurouni Kenshin took place during and after legitimate historical events! I'm still a tad confused and feel like rewatching the first episode now to make better sense of the background...

Yeah, my knowledge of Japanese history is abysmal.

"Not as good as the first episode." Oh, the originality in this thread.

Anyway, I think Tomoe is probably the spy and is gathering information on Kenshin. That would explain why she took a sudden interest in him and why she grasped her dagger in reassurance at the end of the episode when they were headed to Otsu.

I still think he does this out of revenge, but also out of ignorance.
Who can blame him? He has potential for nice development and
if the development happens the right way, he might end up on my
favourite characters list, because he obviously is a weird one ^.-

The Ishin Shishi and the Shinsengumi sure are different than in Gintama! xD

I wonder who is the traitor. I see two suspect : Tomoe and the guy who was often hanging with Kenshin. I believe it's the second, though I don't know its motive. He reacted oddly when they first spoke about a traitor. He was also really implicated into finding the traitor, probably to not create assumption. He also separated from Kenshin, and a few minute later, he have people on his back.

For Tomoe, she sure is acting strangely. From the dagger to her often writting at night, there is something fishy in this. He also started to get ambushed when he met her.

Great show and all but I hat to refresh my understanding of Japanese history. I never payed much attention to what happened after Perry came along. I knew the basics but now I had to do a quick readup on the last Shogun. Quite fascinating, the Japanese elite acted a lot better than their Chinese counterparts.

Everything about this OVA makes it barely recognisable when compared to the show, or even the manga. The emphasis on the style of the fighters and the moves they use is gone and I have to say I like this change. I'm not saying the show or the manga are bad or anything, but rather that this change makes the OVAs have a far more serious tone to them.

Just wanna quickly mention how beautiful the art and animation is, it's so aesthetically pleasing. The fight was very intense and nice, enjoyed every second of it. Interesting turn of events, curious on what will happen next.

@FrozenRaider Yeah, I literally finished Gintama today and now I'm watching this show..

It certainly was a lot slower than the previous episode but it was interesting to see Kenshin gradually value Tomoe more and more as she becomes the sheathe to the brandished sword that was never sheathed in the first place.

If you didn't knew , they are heavily inspired by real-life character.

Most Mangas , and even most medias that use content of old Japan (especially those revolving around the Bakumatsu) use these characters.
It's especially true for the Shinsengumi members , they are almost everywhere. (Okita Souji , Hijikata Toshizou , Kondou Isami...)
They are also present in Hakuouki , Peace Maker Kurogane & Mugen no Juunin : Bakumatsu no Shou for example.

If you are interested , i invite you to atleast read the Bakumatsu and the Shinsengumi's Wikipedia Page.
