History:
I don't really remember what was my first anime. I was somewhere around 10 when I saw Akage no Anne (loved it to bits), and about the same age when I saw Digimon (didn't particularly like it, but didn't dislike it either), so it must have been one of these two.
After that... when I was 11 my little bro was watching Dragon Ball so I joined him and really liked it. Soon they started airing stuff like Beyblade, Rurouni Kenshin, Dragon Ball Z, Lady Lady!!, but I didn't particularly like any of them, except getting through my first fangirling with Trunks from Dragon Ball Z, Kai from Beyblade, and Soujiro from Rurouni Kenshin.
In summer 2004 one TV channel started showing Hellsing at midnight. That was when I completely fell in love with anime, and would watch everything anime just because it was anime.
In the end of April 2006 I got an internet connection. I was all "OMG! AWESOME!!1" when I saw anime on youtube. Naruto seemed to be the most popular one there, so I started off with that. Then I went on to stuff like Serial Experiments Lain, Elfen Lied, Full Metal Alchemist and so on, going through a list of the most popular anime.
With coming of fall anime season, Death Note became the first anime I followed on fansubs as it aired. Started watching it only because of all the hype, and, except for D.Gray-Man, I didn't really know what other stuff started airing as I was spending my time in a manga forum.
In April 2007 I downloaded a bittorent client and started watching anime like crazy.
Somewhere around August my standards became sky-high, and I started getting big difficulties with getting excited about anything.
Nowadays, I don't watch much anime anymore. Every year there are a select few shows that I enjoy, but that's about it.
Ratings:
My ratings are mostly rating enjoyment, but I always *try* to add some objectiveness to them. Usually I only rate stuff that I finished watching because rating something I dropped is just unfair. Which, I suppose, is the reason why my rating distribution is so top-heavy.
