Kingdom, it needs more attention, people should really get on with it, it is crazy good

Too bad the anime....

If Kingdom anime had TG animation they would be in the Top 5 as well, the manga is miles better than TG.

I like Kingdom, but I'm sorry it isn't miles better than Tokyo Ghoul. In fact Tokyo Ghoul is better than Kingdom.

I agree with you, but besides the animation, anime cuts of few arcs in the beginning of the series, which are really important for the story. And there is censorship too, that made me so disappointed that I actually stoped watching it and went back to the manga.

I don't know for the season 2, but from the previews, I think they did a better job with everything

One Piece v. 73 sold 3 freaking million copies? Ahahahah, nice job Oda.
Shingeki no Kyojin seems to be losing popularity bit by bit.

Why the hell did Youkai Watch sell so much? I watched a bit of the anime and it was a piece of shit, literally. I thought everyone hated it like I do but seems like I was wrong.
Top 1 to 20 I'd say almost every of them were expected to sell that much.

Nanatsu won over Ansatsu Kyoushitsu! Yay. Even though both are very good, Ansatsu Kyoushitsu was a bit worse this year so I think that Nanatsu deserves it.

I thought that Akame ga Kill would receive a popularity boost with the adaptation but seems like I was wrong.

Tokyo Ghoul... damn. I have no words to describe the boost it received this year, people seem to love this story.

Great to see No Game No Life in the top 10. Same with Index. Hoping for new seasons for both! Oh and Oregairu too.

The popularity of One Piece continues to baffle me. I just don't see the quality in it.

Why does No Game No Life have two entries?

If I recall correctly, the Light Novel changed publisher and their, say, sales code changed as well hence reseting their total sales as they are selling under a new "sales code."
Too tired and I don't remember the correct term ;_;
Hopefully it make sense!

Thanks. So it's actually the 4th best selling LN series with 939,438.

Not surprisingly that all of the top 30 selling manga (minus the josei one) I've heard of or have read, or have watched the anime adaptation. Oh quick search shows that the drama adaptation is currently airing...so I assume it got a boost from the drama? I want to read it, but I don't think there are any scanlated chapters out yet, I only found translations of the first 10 chapters or so. Oh well.

Also, I would love to see another season of Gin no Saji...

Looks like OP sales are down about 150-200K per volume compare to how they stood last year.

Bleach sales down a good chunk too but not a surprise because it's shit now.

Kimi Ni Todoke's sales are also down a bit and that doesn't surprise me either because that's also turned into complete shit.

HOW TO SAVE ANIME IN THREE SIMPLE STEPS

  1. To have Mars of Destruction, Skelter Heaven, and Pupa properly adapted in TV series form by Madhouse
  2. To have Inferno Cop properly adapted in TV series form by Bones, director: Urobuchi Gen
  3. An anime crossover of Mushishi x ARIA x Haibane Renmei.

Should even one of the above conditions cannot be done, anime is still at risk.

I think ~12million will be One Piece's sales for the considerable future. So it is quite possible something could overtake it if it manages to catch the attention of the masses. Assassination Classroom could become absolutely huge once it finally gets an anime as it already made it into the top 10 this year without one.

I don't know what is funny. The 32.9 Million was people getting caught with the series. Now almost everybody in Japan already caught to the last volume so you will not have huge backlog sales.

You could just do a simple math and see that 4 volumes per year * 3,000,000 copies per volume = 12,000,000 copies sold per year. So in no way would one Piece do numbers like 14M, 32.9M, 23.4M and 18.1M if it wasn't for the backlog sales.

In 2011, One Piece got around 500k(half a million) new readers and so it got that huge of a number. You can't wait for every year for a new group of half a million readers to get into your manga. Majority of titles don't even get 500k readers!

Try Again.

Try again at what, exactly? That response is completely irrelevant to my point: One piece likely won't be #1 for much longer.

Whether that's due to a shrinking base of readers, less people catching up, or both. The conclusion I reached will still be the same: another series is poised to surpass it.

If Oda doesn't get sick and releases 4 volumes a year like usual, it'll easily pass 12 million next year :)
While snk is going down in sales next year cause the anime won't be back till 2016.

And let us take 10 seconds and pray that the toriko anime will come back in late 2015 :(

Not really. The same thing that happened to One Piece is happening to Tokyo Ghoul, Haikyuu, SnK, etc. People being exposed to the series through the anime will boost the previous volumes. They'll fall while One Piece will still stay around this high.

Sorry, this time you need to try again. Of course the numbers are relevant - at the VERY least, the numbers show less newcomers are joining the series (again, that's the bare minimum of implications - which bigivelfhq even acknowledged).

The best you can do is say that the numbers ALONE aren't enough to support my conclusion that One Piece won't be #1 much longer. That may even be true, but it still makes your original response to me completely pointless.

That might be true given the huge One Piece fanbase, we'll have to see which one of us is correct. I still think the odds are good that another series will top sales, especially if some readers start losing interest in One Piece.

Yet what's the chance of that? One Piece has only been gaining in popularity since it started, hasn't gone backwards.
And I don't know the logic behind of your odds.
An anime to beat One Piece would have to get an insane anime boost which are temporary. Almost every manga in the top 10 are ones that are currently in one.

Well, according to Google Trends, One Piece has flattened over the past while. Now, obviously this should be taken with a grain of salt and there are many caveats; but simple statistics in popularity have always shown that if a series isn't going up, it's only a matter of time before it goes down. That's my prediction, and if I'm wrong then I'm wrong.

You're really using google trends? How about manga sales and logic.
Manga sales show that it's only getting more popular and isn't falling. It's been publishing for 15+ years, people are attached to the characters, story, etc and you think it's just going to fall? And what manga would beat it? Which one has a chance of beating it? Because even if its 'trend' is flattening it's still probably much higher than every other manga's. The trending thing was most likely similar to the manga boost. Temporary mass interest that dies down yet still is higher than it was before.

These are the only ones I care about <3

- One Piece and SnK almost neck-and-neck. Amazing.
- Huge boosts for HQ!! and TG. They deserve it.
- KnB and Detective Conan still selling well. Nice.
- Noragami! Also, Nozaki-kun!!!!

- Hype train for KagePro really helped the LN sales. I wonder how well the sixth novel would sell after the (disappointing) anime...
- Oregairu growing by leaps and bounds. Looking forward to the second season! Hope it will get even better.
- NGNL performing really well! I'm so happy for it, I loved the anime. Hoping for a second season!
- Interested in reading Log Horizon... Black Bullet too (since the anime apparently wasn't very good)...
- Kokuhaku series selling really well for one that only started in January! I think the new seiyuu-voiced album spiked the interest for this series. Even if it's shoujo, I hope it'll get an anime!
- MIKAGURA! F*CK YES! My favorite Vocaloid series is selling really well for one that doesn't even have an anime (yet)! I sure hope it gets one!
(no Shuuen no Shiori on that list though... I thought it was still selling more than Mikagura... hehehe...)

Anyway, question: Do these light novel sales reflect the overall sales of the series for this year only? I didn't understand the source :/

Only 4 of the top 30 manga still have no adaption and 2 of those already have adaptions announced. I hope we see an adaption of the Josei one at some point, that would be great. Ideally in the NoitaminA block.
I probably regret this post by now.

lol at those that say OP is declining. Look at the sales per volume, OP still absolutely destroys every other series and is constantly breaking it's own records. The only way other series even get close is when they get a temporary anime boost (Attack on Titan) and people go out and buy all the previous volumes thus pushing up the overall sales. As evidenced by the fact the AoT has volumes 1 and 2 in the top 100 sales per volume.

One Piece has less manga volume sales this year compare to usual if I'm not mistaken right? Because of Oda hiatus?

Only released 3 volumes this year instead of the usual 4. Basically add 2.5-3 mill extra to it's sales if Oda hadn't gotten sick.

If all we were using was manga sales, then anyone at a glance would come to the conclusion that One Piece is losing popularity. But that's not fair, right? We need to apply logic to this, yet you seem quick to dismiss the idea that some readers might be losing interest in the series.

All I'm saying is that you seem to be giving One Piece the most charitable interpretation, while rationalizing and minimizing any disagreeable points.

No they wouldn't unless they're looking at the wrong numbers to judge that off of like the yearly sales that you posted earlier. Which numbers show that it's losing in popularity?
Show me proof that it's happening enough to affect its popularity and let another manga beat it and I will admit it but you have done nothing of the sort yet. Just talking about google trends and the such.

Not really.

The difference between your "logic" and IntroverTurtle's is that he's using HARD numbers to back his logic up. All you're doing is using google trends to form your opinion.
