Great episode. The relief of the elder when the guy asked to come back to the village had me tearing up a little. His burden of guilt forgiven.

*sigh* Few more days til Friday...

The end teared me up slightly. Another great episode!

I'm glad that I watched it fairly late as I now only have three days to wait for the next ;)

Always a little frightening to see how precarious subsistence life is. As always, Mushishi keeps it simple and beautiful.

Damn, Mushishi dealing with serious business again. That's some great writting right there.

As always, slow but powerful. I think it was easy to understand how both party felt. The father had good reason to be bitter against the village, but the town leader had also good reason to have saved his wife instead of the other guy wife. Really, it was a no one's wrong here.

Ginko acting as a neutral lever again. I think it's his best capacity, to take distance from the village problem, but still be compassionate for them. It allow him to have a bit more of liberty.

The beginning really let us thought that the story would be around those little bird, but the story was more around how a village and a fishing life can collapse in an instant. But also how by mutual aid, they can overcome those difficulties.

Such a good anime to watch before going to bed. Glad it worked out again in this episode,

but what the heck is a red tide and what causes it?

A red tide is when a certain type of algae that forms due to over-abundance of human activity, making the water too rich with nutrients/aka factory waste, or a change in the sea's temperature. It is VERY toxic in large quantities, and will kill any sea-life that makes contact with it's vicinity, as well as any humans who ingest infected sea-life. Filter feeding animals, such as shellfish and clam, may accumulate large fatal doses in it's system when eating, but not die. Thus, any animals that eat the shellfish, will soon grow sick and die as well from the saxitoxin.

What a great episode. It was just really high quality. Mushishi is just one of the greats and it has fell right back into it's usual greatness.

The end scene was so beautiful. It was one of the rare episodes in which the mushi were not the cause of any harm whatsoever, rather the opposite.

This anime has really benefited from the gap between the seasons, since the gorgeous visuals only enhance the lovely atmosphere of Mushishi.

Beautiful.
8/10 for this episode.
Isayama Hajime should be awarded The Manga with The Highest Inconsistencies of Characters' Appearances.
He keeps performing multiple plastic surgeries on those Shingeki No Kyojin characters in a SINGLE chapter.
Yes, I've read up to the latest chapter of Shingeki No Kyojin manga.
Forced myself to read through the kidsketching chapters after the anime's ended. At least from now on, I only have to go through the hell once a month.
Patiently awaiting SNK TV/movie/OVA anime-sequel.
The 2015 SNK live-action movie would probably suck.

This anime deserves a lot of respect for all the feelings it creates without emphasizing on tragedies or manipulating the viewer with 500 litres of tears on every single face.

This. I'm taking this new season really slowly. 3 episodes in (if you count the 40 min special) and all of them so far were amazing. I'm kinda missing the dark forest scenery that came along in S1 a lot more often though

Whoa... this was an utterly amazing episode. The artwork and animation was phenomenal - especially the scene with all the villagers standing atop the cliff overlooking the scarlet water, and the scene with all the mushi birds escaping the seashells. Wow.

The gorgeous animation was just the icing, though, as the story and atmosphere were truly touching as well. This episode is going down as one of the most beautiful episodes of Mushishi and one of my favorites.

I love this series so much asldljgfgoljhlfnjbocvnl ;___;

I agree, and it's definitely not because of nostalgia, because I just finished the first season less than a day ago. So far this is far inferior to the first season, everything but the music (exclude the OP, I don't like Shiver). Probably the directing, or the script, or the sub I use, because the story is still as great as ever.

Is the budget lower than before? I notice a lot more empty-ish background scenes than the first season.

Well, they were on a beach, afterall. Also, that last shot with all the birds and the moving camera shot with animated background was very complex. There wasn't anything cheap about this episode.

Touching episode.
They finally went back / get accepted back into the village after 10 years.
Really shows just like the first season that not all Mushi are bad, in this case it helped them (or Ginko did actually with the help of Mushi)

Another great episode.
It's always interesting to see what the Mushi are capable of understanding and doing. They can either be the savior or the bane of the people.

I noticed they never truly discovered the mystery behind the red sea. They say it was a large shark, but after seeing what the 'red sea' was capable of, it doesn't seem like it could just be a shark.

Got dem feels when the father finally asked to return and that ending scene was just as beautiful as the first episodes ending scene.

The red tide is a natural phenomenon caused by water algae that rapidly multiply and release poison into the ocean. It kills many fish around the world every year. The real world scientists don't quite know what causes it either. :(

I liked this episode's focus on community.

Those birds survive by having a team mentality. They watch out for each other's back. This oceanside village also does the same. I love it!

Probably my favorite Mushi so far just because of how helpful and harmless they are. Well, unless you happen to put a seashell to your ear while they're singing but even that has a simple cure.

Another great episode. Nearly got teary-eyed when the father not only gave the pearl so that it could be shared between the villagers but also decided to come back. He's one prideful man. Mina was a nice girl as well.

The red tide sent shivers.
