Servamp

Mahiru Shirota firmly believes that simple is best and troublesome things should be avoided at all costs. It is troublesome to do nothing and regret it later—and this ideology has led the 15-year-old to pick up a stray cat on his way home from school. As he affectionately names the feline Kuro, little does he know that this chance meeting will spark an extraordinary change in his everyday life.

One day, Mahiru returns home to find something quite strange: a mysterious young man he has never seen before. His subsequent panic results in the uninvited guest being exposed to sunlight and—much to Mahiru's shock—transforming into Kuro! Upon revealing himself as a mere lazy shut-in vampire, Kuro promises to leave once night falls. However, one disaster after another leads to Mahiru accidentally forming a contract with his new freeloader, dragging him into a life-threatening battle of supernatural servants and bloodthirsty beings that is anything but simple.

Story--8/10. I liked how they showed the characters' backstories.

Art---8/10. It wasn't amazing or anything but I thought it was good

Sound--9/10. bro. The music. I liked it but every time the opening came on the tv and other people were in the room I'd get looks like "Are you okay?"

Character--6/10. Okay well, I frick'in loved Kuro but every time Mahiru or whatever his name is would say something I'd automatically be like "Nobody gives af." And other characters were a little insane but after you find out their backstories it's pretty understandable. And the relationships were good too. I really liked Kuro and Mahiru's relationship.

Enjoyment---10/10. ... It never bored me, and I never felt like doing something else when I was watching it either. which says a lot cuz I got ADHD. It was funny, the action was there--I'd definitely recommend watching this if you're okay with vampires and weird frickin laughs.

Overall--7/10.

Mixed Feelings

Took until I saw Dr Stein (from Soul eater) to understand what's happening in this show.

So... this one is more of a word vomit than an actual show. The author sat down to write something original but ended up falling on tropes and his favorite characters got mixed in with his OCs.

When watching this I had this itch in the back of my brain telling me I've seen this character before. Stein, as well as Grell from Black butler, are probably the most obvious ones but you also have Sakuya who is practically transplanted from Nanbaka.

Premise here is over-complicated for no reason. ... There are vampires, they have a master, they are servant vampires. Because Japan love hierarchy there are baby vamps under those as well. There is a lot of talk and specifics thrown in to complicate it but that's pretty much it. One of the vamps is our designated bad guy so we need to stop him, that's all.

Oh and because Soul Eater is clearly one of the "inspirations" here custom weapons are thrown in because why not.

You know those crappy one shots where the characters are suddenly in a situation and are given only one option to get out? Like getting locked in a room and not allowed out until XXX happens or something ridiculous like that? That's this show. Every few episodes the characters are cornered and are told they have to do this or that to get out of the situation. Because edgy they bust through the walls instead, in one case quite literally.

Trouble is each time new rules and restrictions are added for that to be the case, it's like this show never truly begins just always trying to establish the parameters of it's identity.

Overall I did like the lazy cat vamp but that's about it. The rest of the cast are so middle of the road all I can think of while they're on screen is try to identify which anime they were stolen from.

I am not a huge anime viewer and choose to watch it casually, however this was one that was brought to my attention via a club in high school (ahh the great high school anime clubs). I binged the whole series and was quite entertained until the final episode.

It felt like through the entire series we were constantly forced to switch lights between different characters to uncover their unique backstories, however, everything had to be cut off in a strange way, due to the lack of time. The conclusion is absolute garbage and I felt like reflecting on the show as a whole, I ... know nothing interesting or unique about any of the characters with the exception of Lawless (who gets his own episode).

The characters are all boring and flat and even the characters with some depth like Sakuya and Licht, they have a couple moments before receding back into their boxes. Its all very cut and dry until the last episode where you hope for some satisfaction only to be severely disappointed.

As someone who watched the anime with rose colored glasses, I can only compare it to the currently ongoing manga. The manga and the anime are two completely different entities with the anime missing dramatically important character development points, plus the villains' whole motivation. If you seem intrigued by the concept (which I think is awesome), definitely save the hassle of watching the show and instead pick up the book instead. It has way more character points and develops the story much more naturally than the rushed anime.

Overall, read the manga instead.
